Chapter 16: Chapter Sixteen
DAMIEN MARTINEZ —
—Few hours ago—
“You have a guest,” my personal secretary informed me on the phone
I frowned, checking my schedule just to make sure. That couldn't be possible. I did have an appointment with anyone. It said so right there on the schedule.
I was to work in the office till noon, have my lunch and afternoon tea and then more paper work then I was to go and oversee a meeting with the directors.
And honestly the list went on and on till like forever and there was no space in between where I had to sit for a chit chat with a visitor.
“Tell the person to book an appointment,” I replied to my secretary, deciding to shrug it off.
There is some light chatter in the background and I was about to end the call when she spoke again.
“I'm afraid I can't do that,” the secretary said.
It was my turn to frown deeply, wondering who the fuck the so called visitor was, I'll say one thing though, he or she had some nerve to threatening my own personal secretary to the point when she chose to defy me instead on getting on the persons bad side.
I took a deep breath, deciding that I might as well handle this in the best way possible.
Of which keeping a clam mind was highly recommend.
“Does... This visitor have a name?” I strained to ask, trying to fight the immense displeasure I already felt fit the person yet to be named.
“Morgana, Morgana Anderson, and she demands to speak with you.”
The name leaves me with a righter frown as I glared at the phone, wondering what the fuck that name still had to do with me.
I tried so hard and yet our paths seemed to be fated to crisscross over and fucking again.
I was about to tell my secretary to send her my regards and tell her I said to piss off in a polite voice, but I knew better than that.
If Morgana had taken the trouble come all the way to tbe company for me, then it was safe to say that she wasn't going to leave without getting what she wanted and if I just refused her from this means, then she would simply find another means to get me and I could be sure that I wasn't going to like that one any better.
“Fine,” I breathed a sigh. “Let her in. ”
I figured out that if I stalled more, the secretary would start to guess that there was still something between us and who knew the length of the lies that Morgana was feeding her with.
I had to control her.
And sometimes, the best way to push someone away for good was let them in... Through the freaking door I meant.
I ended the call and placed the telephone back on the table.
I pretend to be still engrossed in my work but in reality, I was in fact waiting and dreading the moment when the door would push open.
Don't get me wrong. I was not scared shitless by her or anything.
The truth was just that I was a bit weary of her. Especially after the part when I learnt that she had the ability to get Clarissa against me.
There was a faint knock on the door before it pushed open without much hesitation.
I knew that I had already been frowning a lot, but if possible, my frown deepened all the more as my gaze locked with a pair of unapologet grey eyes.
My eye scanned through Morgana. She stood at the door in front of me dressed in a amber turtle neck tee and a black hoodie that brought out the color of her eyes. Her brown hair fell in waves over her shoulders and across her waist. She had a striped brown joggers pants to match.
She smirked at me standing there at the doorway like nothing had happened between us.
“Well I assume that your plan is not just to stand there all day?” I grunted, opting for sarcasm.
“Good morning to you too,” she gave me a tight grin as she swayed into my office and planted herself on the chair opposite mine.
I sized her up for a while and sighed.
“I assume this is the final meeting with you I had been praying for?”
She raised an eyebrow and I shrugged, deciding it won't hurt to explain more.
“You know, the final meeting where you tell me, goodbye Damien, I'm catching the nearest plane to Africa all the way across the world so you wouldn't have to bother about me ever again.”
I animated my voice as I spoke, making it sound distinctly like hers and I don't forget to look hopeful.
“Oh Damien you're so funny,” she threw her head back in laughter. “Why do you always assume that I'll leave you? I keep telling you babe, you'll get tired of me long before I get tired of you. ”
My face hardened, very bit of playfullness one. I leaned towards her with a glare.
“Then travel the fuck away Morgana. Because I've long grown tired of you.”
My destructive energy makes her inch back a little. Her eyes cloud and she looked hurt about to cry even. But I knew better than that.
“That's right Morgana, give me the reaction I want and I hope my words sink in this time. ” I growled.
“Oh and, don't fucking call me babe again. ”
“But how do you know that? How do you know that we're not meant to be when you haven't even tried?” she cried out her voice shaking.
“Don't be pathetic Morgana,” I growled standing up.
“You know me, I don't even date and I decided to try it out with you, hoping that this would change. But you know what?” I leaned with my back against the window now, staring down at her.
“I'm disappointed. Now why don't you just accept the fact that we cannot be, not in this life time, not in the one after. Why can't you just accept all this and let's say move on with your life assuming you still have one?” I lashed out feeling more fustrated than angry.
That's the only feeling I knew I would ever feel around her.
Fustrated time and time again because she was like a clingy ex... What was I saying? She was a clingy ex that simply wouldn't leave me alone. I kept on wondering and wondering my ass off about why she was so obsessed withe me?
It was one simple bloody sentence.
WE ARE OVER
An yet, she did not seem to understand the meaning of it.
“Is it because if her?” she asked coldly, looking at me dangerously.
“What are you taking about?” I demanded.
She stood up and approached me.
Slowly, intently... I knew I should tell her to get out of my office and never come back otherwise I would put a restraining order on her.
I knew that I should snap at her and end whateve was happing before it even happened but I watched her as she inched closer, leaning into me as I gazed indifferently outside the window, trying to pretend that her touch meant nothing to me.
“Is it because you found a new woman that is willing to be your puppet and so you feel that I am dispensable now? Do you feel like you can get rid of me like that?” she asked, her gaze on me intent.
Under normal circumstances, this little preaching of hers and her body language would have even able to make me lose my guard, but the fact was that I was no longer affected my her. Not in any way.
I gave a smile that didn't reach my eyes.
“First, I'd like you to know that everything about us was already over two years ago. And when you come to terms with that, I'll also like you to know that I won't allow you to speak about my family in that time. ” I pulled her roughy away from me.
“Stay away from Carissa and my family. I can end everything about you if I feel like it little pest. It all depends on my mood so do well to stay away. ” I threatened.
“I know the marriage is a fake. A facade to keep me away,” she blurts out in desperation like she was running out of options.
I grin and lower my voice so that it was barely above a whisper.
“Then you'll do well to stay away and make me think my mission is accomplished won't you? Humor me for once.”
“You keep lying to yourself Damien,”
With that, she leans into me and uses the opportunity to press her lips to mine.
Her vanilla taste explodes in my mouth and her hands are all over my chest, tugging at the buttons in my shirt with urgency.
“Fuck what are you doing?” I growled against her.
Anyone could walk in on us right now and this time, the scandal would be impossible to cover up.
I pushed her away, my eyes darting to the door.
I find Clarissa standing there with a look of betrayal.
Fuck...
The door slams shut and I turn to glare at Morgana.
“I bet you had that petty little scheme all figured out,” I shove her away roughly and head for the door after Clarissa.
