"Boss, should I book a restaurant?" Mark carefully considered and asked.
Charles pinched his temple in annoyance. "No need."
He knew that Daphne was venting her dissatisfaction. If spending money could make her feel a bit better, then let her spend.
As soon as he said this, another deduction message arrived on his phone, with an expenditure of over thirty million.
Mark and the four bodyguards continued to follow Daphne as she went from store to store. Daphne looked at her nose, and her nose looked at her heart.
No one spoke a word, silently assuming the role of carrying things.
After Daphne finished shopping, the jewelry naturally ended up in Mark's empty hands. Just as they were about to continue browsing, Charles' phone rang.
The restless heart felt a bit relieved at the sight of the caller's name. The furrowed brow also relaxed. With well-defined slender fingers, Charles answered the phone, his voice unusually gentle, "Kayla."
Mark: "..."
The four bodyguards: "..."
Boss! Did you forget that Mrs. Lancelot is still here!
"Mr. Lancelot, Kayla got into a car accident on her way to the hospital for a check-up. She's still unconscious in the operating room." The voice on the phone was loud and anxious. "Could you please come over? She kept saying your name before going into the operating room."
"Send me the address, I'll come right away." Charles' heart tightened, and he quickly replied.
He hung up the phone.
His gaze fell on Daphne. He wanted to explain something, but then realized it was unnecessary. He just instructed his assistant, "You guys accompany Daphne and let her buy whatever she wants. If she can't carry it, have someone deliver it to the house in the afternoon."
The bodyguards: "Yes, Boss."
Charles walked away quickly.
Daphne, Mark, and the remaining bodyguards stayed behind.
The atmosphere felt awkward.
Mark felt the need to say something to salvage Mr. Lancelot's reputation. He raised his hand to push his glasses with a hint of smile on his face. "Mrs. Lancelot, don't worry. Mr. Lancelot will come back after he's done with his business."
"You've worked hard." Daphne said with a meaningful tone.
Mark: "?"
Daphne looked at the brightly decorated mall and said slowly, "Working day and night is one thing, but lying is another. Have you ever seen anyone go to meet a mistress and come back halfway?"
Mark: "..."
The bodyguards: "..."
For a moment, the five of them looked at her with pity in their eyes.
This must be the pain of marrying into a wealthy family. Clearly knowing that her husband is with another woman, yet unable to get angry or upset.
"Don't look at me with that pitiful expression." Daphne couldn't help but tease them with her response.
"Any random item in your hands is worth more than your annual or even ten years' salary."
Her words were quite stimulating!
"Is there anything you want?" Daphne asked.
All five of them raised their heads in unison.
They couldn't keep up with Mrs. Lancelot's unconventional thinking.
"He goes to meet his mistress while I use his money to buy you things." Daphne waved the card in her hand.
She didn't notice that she still cared about Charles abandoning her for Kayla.
At this moment, all she wanted was to max out his card.
Mark: "!"
The bodyguards: "!"
The five of them looked at her in horror. Daphne felt that this group of people couldn't banter aside, and continued to make purchases using the card Charles had given her.
Daphne thought he would spend the day at the hospital with Kayla, but he unexpectedly appeared while
they were eating.
He forcefully pulled Daphne towards the parking lot, holding her wrist with an unusually strong grip.
"Bang!" He threw Daphne against the car.
Her body hurt, and she instinctively furrowed her brows. What is he going crazy for? Before she could react, the interrogative words hit her ears.
"Why did you harm Kayla?" Charles was burning with uncontrollable anger.
If it weren't for his remaining sanity, he would lose control of his strength. "Why did you hire someone to hit her with a car?"
"I promised you the car, the house, and the money."
"What more could you possibly want?" Charles seemed to be from hell, emanating an icy breath.
His narrow, deep black eyes were sharp and chilling, capable of devouring a person.
"When did I harm her?" Daphne was utterly confused by the scolding.
"Is it still meaningful to pretend now?" Charles spoke, "You deliberately arranged a shopping trip today just to take the opportunity to have Kayla killed, didn't you?"
"You know that if I were with her, not even my death would bring her any harm."
Each word from Charles struck fear into people's hearts.
Initially angry, Daphne became calmer upon hearing his words.
She looked at him this way and added a touch of mockery to her words, "Well, Mr. Lancelot, you're the first one to make cheating sound so righteous."
"Daphne!" Charles became angry.
"You need treatment if your brain is sick." Daphne ignored his status while confronting him. "Why would I let go of the good days after divorcing you just to hire someone to hit her? What do I gain from that?"
"What do you mean by 'gain'?" Charles's aura became increasingly dangerous.
Daphne sensed the situation and suddenly understood, "You think I gain something from it?"
Charles didn't answer.
But his expression and attitude provided the answer that he thought ‘yes’.
"What would I gain?" Daphne fired back with consecutive questions, her mind clear. "You see me as a substitute? You are cheating on me? You are still longing for someone else, while being married to me?"
Charles: "..."
He found these words somewhat piercing and explained, "I didn't cheat on you."
"Emotional cheating is still cheating." Daphne didn't spare him any face.
Charles furrowed his brows, "Don't change the subject."
"You're the one finding fault where there isn't any." Daphne retorted.
Charles remained silent, staring at her with a menacing intensity, as if he was meeting her for the first time.
Daphne had no interest in wasting her time here with him; she didn't like being falsely accused. "If she told you that I hired someone to hit her, you believe her so easily?"
"Yes," Charles's anger gradually subsided under her sincere gaze, but the coldness around him remained.
"She never lies."
"I, and she has evidence of me hitting her," Daphne tightened her grip on her purse, showing emotions, "Alright, let's go. I'll accompany you to the hospital to see her."
The cold aura around Charles dissipated with these words. He didn't expect her to cooperate like this.
After all, if it was her, she wouldn't go.
For a moment, he felt conflicted and unsure whether to believe that evidence.
"Move aside," Daphne stared at him blocking her way, speaking coldly.
Charles released his hold on her and looked at the distant figure, feeling a sense of inexplicable annoyance. Suppressing his emotions, he took out the car keys and opened the door.
