Chapter 87
This was the scene that greeted Simon as he walked into the summit.
Aurora sat quietly beside Daniel.
The two had worked together smoothly by now, a textbook example of boss and employee.
But because Aurora was so strikingly beautiful, combined with her undeniable presence, it was easy to mistake them for a couple.
Simon's steps faltered.
Peter beside him immediately asked, "Mrs. Coldridge is here too. Should we go say hello?"
Looking at the woman in the distance, Simon's heart tightened.
At this moment, Aurora sitting beside someone else made it look like she and Daniel were the couple.
And he, as her husband, was standing not far away watching her chat and laugh with another man.
Peter, noticing Simon's displeasure, didn't dare ask more questions.
Simon looked away. "No need."
"I'm just here to discuss something, then I'm leaving."
He had no interest in this industry summit to begin with, and seeing this scene made him even less inclined to stay.
Peter, following beside Simon, also glanced back.
Aurora remained composed, as if she hadn't noticed Simon's presence at all.
But Daniel, turning his head casually, caught sight of that figure in the distance.
A slight smile curved his lips, but he didn't tell Aurora.
The scene he'd just witnessed deeply stung Simon's heart.
He found someone at the summit to briefly discuss upcoming collaboration, then headed straight home.
The house was empty.
After Aurora moved out, only the housekeeper came regularly to clean.
But the warmth of when they lived here together was long gone.
He sat on the sofa thinking for a long time, then called Aurora.
Aurora never picked up. When he called a second time, she hung up directly.
Simon stared at his phone screen, his tongue pressing against his cheek.
Very good, Aurora. You've really made something of yourself!
Not only chatting happily with another man at an industry summit, but now you won't even answer his calls.
Simon pocketed his phone and headed straight to Aurora's apartment.
On the way, he sent Aurora a message.
[I'm waiting at your apartment. If you don't come, I'll go straight to Mia's house.]
Aurora only had these two places to go now, and she definitely wouldn't want this matter brought to Mia.
In the car, Simon received a call from his financial lawyer.
"Mr. Coldridge, I can make some additions to the divorce agreement if you need..."
At the mention of the drafted divorce agreement, Simon felt irritated. "No need. Put the divorce agreement away."
Remembering he still had a copy in his car, Simon picked it up and tore it cleanly in half.
Divorce? What divorce?
Should he just let Aurora be with someone else like this?
According to male intuition, Simon could certainly tell that Daniel was interested in Aurora!
Simon tossed the torn papers aside expressionlessly.
The driver in the front seat didn't dare say a word, all the way until dropping Simon off at the apartment.
Aurora had just finished the industry summit when she saw Simon's message.
Her brow furrowed, her beautiful, delicate face clouded with confusion.
During the meeting earlier, Simon had called several times and she'd hung up on him.
Aurora didn't know what Simon wanted, but calling now was really strange.
Especially threatening her by saying if she didn't come back, he'd go find Mia...
Daniel had just finished talking with someone else and turned to see Aurora looking anxious. "Did something happen?"
"Yes. I have to leave now. I won't be able to attend the post-summit banquet with you."
Aurora actually didn't want to enter that kind of setting anyway.
Places like banquets always reminded her of her recent ordeal.
Daniel nodded understandingly, but looked at Aurora with some concern. "If you're unhappy with my arrangements today, just tell me directly in the future."
"Don't worry, Mr. Harrington, I have no complaints about you. I just really need to handle something else right now."
Only then did Daniel relax. "I'll arrange for a driver to take you."
Realizing she hadn't driven, Aurora agreed.
The car was already on the road. Soon arriving at the apartment, Aurora hurried out to find him.
She'd see just what Simon was up to now!
Aurora rushed upstairs in her heels.
The moment the elevator doors opened, she ran out, her heels clicking loudly on the floor.
Finally, at her apartment door, Aurora saw him.
Simon wore a velvet suit that seemed impenetrable, just like the man himself.
His shirt was buttoned all the way to the top, though his tie was loosened, giving him a somewhat rakish air.
His sharply defined handsome face carried a hint of gravity, but when he turned to see Aurora, a trace of amusement appeared in his eyes.
"I thought you really wanted me to go to Mia's house, taking this long to come back."
Aurora gritted her teeth. "What exactly do you want?"
"If you're here to divorce me, we can talk about it properly!"
Beyond that, Aurora really didn't want to get entangled with him.
She went straight to unlock the door.
But Simon caught her wrist. This time he didn't use force, his fingers gently brushing her skin.
Then he gripped it. "You're opening the door because you don't want to talk to me?"
"I just want to let you inside."
Fighting in the hallway—did he want to give the neighbors something to laugh about?
This seemed to amuse Simon. As they entered, he spoke, his voice tinged with pleasure. "I thought you'd be like before, not letting me in."
Watching Aurora bend down to change her shoes, he leaned in close, saying softly, "Aurora, it's been a long time since we've been in bed together."
That one sentence set off alarm bells in Aurora's heart.
She kicked off her heels and pushed Simon away.
"If you're not here to discuss divorce with me, please leave. Next time you threaten me about going to find my mom, I won't respond at all."
But Simon moved closer, pinning her seamlessly against the wall.
Aurora tried to struggle. Simon's sharp brows furrowed. "It's been so long. Don't you miss it?"
His hand slowly reached over, inch by inch moving up along her waist.
The hand that had been teasing her wrist now rested at her waist.
His burning breath fell by Aurora's ear as Simon gently kissed her earlobe, his voice husky. "It's been a long time."
"I said I won't divorce you, but I can let you keep your current freedom."
Aurora's lashes trembled violently. "My current freedom?"
"What freedom do you think I have now? One message from you and I'm forced to come back. On the way, I had to call my mom to explain why I couldn't come home for dinner with her today!"
Before Aurora could finish, Simon cut off her breath with a kiss.
