Chapter 152: Chapter 152 - We Will Be Four
Pedro Hernandez
In seven years, feeling the weight of the world, the isolation, I only need five minutes with Adrielle to forget everything, to forget all the suffering we both went through. Now is the time to leave all that behind and be happy with our family. Even if it doesn't last, even if it's just the three of us for the rest of our lives, I will be happy with them.
The ring fits perfectly on Adie's ring finger. Exactly as Burton said. We're already standing, but she still can't hold back the tears. In fact, even my eyes are watery. We've just set our lives on track towards our plans. The ones that have awaited us for seven years.
"Thank you. Thank you for accepting to be my wife, for being the mother of my daughter and the woman with whom I want to share the rest of my years," I say, wrapping her in my arms.
"I think you can open the box now, my love." “Adie says, her voice still tearful, but no longer choked with emotion. She pulls away from me to look me in the eyes. “I can’t believe you bought a yacht just to propose to me.” A laugh escapes us. “Didn’t you learn anything from all that hospital stuff?”
I smile broadly.
“No,” I reply calmly. She closes her eyes and laughs, but there’s no irritation between us. “I admit, the hospital’s price was exaggerated. If I’d known Lewis didn’t want to sell because he was making six million a year, I would have offered maybe one hundred million…” I say, raising my head for a moment to think about it. “But I loved seeing how his arrogance crumbled the moment I made my offer. He didn’t even refuse.” I smile, satisfied. “It’s not something I care about either. That’s the revenue of three casinos a month, my love.”
“Speaking of which, shouldn’t you be doing inspections?” she asks, her brow slightly furrowed. “As CEO, Max traveled all the time. I remember Sofia mentioning it. Vegas, Spain, Singapore, Bangkok.”
I frown, confused. It’s true that our casino network is extensive worldwide, especially in Las Vegas. But we don’t have anything, no company, in Spain. I don’t want to keep talking about Max; it’ll ruin our evening.
However, she’s right. I have to conduct inspections, but since I don’t have time, I sent a company employee. Chandler is trustworthy. I read all his documents, and I also asked Iris to find out more about his background.
“Yes, I should. But our busy lives don’t allow me to do that,” I say, turning away from her to pick up the simple wooden box with a white envelope. I don’t know what it is, or if I should shake it to find out what’s inside. “I have an employee doing this for me. Until our lives stabilize, I’ll stay home…” I take the envelope and open it.
It’s her handwriting. My heart almost stopped as I read what was written.
“We waited for you for seven years. Our life together is beginning. With your return, my love, we should become three, but now we will be four.”
Four. We will be four.
I blinked a few times, trying to organize my thoughts about it. I could barely breathe from reading. My fingers trembled at the idea of having another child together. A baby on the way, full of love.
"Please…" My voice was low. I lifted my head to look into her green eyes, as intense as a forest. "Don't tell me this is a joke."
Adie smiled, her eyes welling up again.
"It's not."
I left the note and the envelope on the table next to us so I could open the box. Inside, there were four crocheted bears. Two of them were pink, one blue, and one white. Between them was the pregnancy test with the best result I could ever see in my life.
Now I could burst with happiness. I'm doing the right thing. I asked for the hand of the woman who truly improves my life every day. We'll have two children now. Our house won't be so quiet anymore.
I place the still-open box under the table so I can turn to her and wrap her in my arms. Her laughter echoes around us. Her arms rest around my neck as I spin her in the air.
"Do you have any idea how happy you made me tonight?" I ask, setting her down and bringing my right hand to her face. "Are we going to have another baby?"
"Yes, we are," she replies, with a smile as wide as I've grown accustomed to seeing. Her fingers run through the hair at the nape of my neck as her face is close to mine again. "I just need you to promise me you won't leave me," she whispers.
With our closeness, there's no need to speak loudly.
"Adie, I don't intend to go anywhere without you and Abby." "If anyone wants to take me away from you, they'll have to drag me by force," I say, looking into his eyes. "It's our family, my love. I won't let this happen again."
Her mouth fits perfectly against mine, in a slow kiss. I can feel the touch of her tongue on mine, with a slow rhythm. The slow kiss is becoming more needy. My arms press her against my body, as if trying to prevent her from pulling away. Her perfume enters my nostrils while our breath seems almost to merge with each other.
"Tell me you don't intend to start this here…" she asks, amidst the kisses.
Someone else seems unwilling to distance themselves either.
"Not only do I intend to start, but I'll also finish this," I affirm, before moving my kisses down her jawline. I realize she's pregnant and that I have no idea whether or not we can have sex. I pull away and can notice her dissatisfaction. "We… should have sex with you while you're pregnant?"
"When we can't, I'll let you know. Until then, I won't stop you from touching me," she says in a low tone while biting my lower lip.
I swallow hard, knowing that neither of us can resist this.
