Chapter 149: Chapter One Hundred and Forty-Nine - A Shitty Boyfriend.

Wyatt

I feel like the shittiest boyfriend in the world for leaving Alyssa by herself on our vacation. I need to, though. There has been a breach in our system. There is a lot of important, privileged information in our system of our client’s business partners, along with a lot of money. There are people trying to fix the problem, but I would rather be there. I can access more than everyone else. I hope it doesn’t turn into a disaster.

I have given her some time to calm down, and hopefully, she will. She is probably still mad, but I want to say goodbye before I need to leave. I will get back as soon as I can. I take a deep breath and walk into the room without knocking. She has fallen asleep. I take a seat on the bed at her side.

I stroke her hair, “Alyssa, wake up, angel. I have to leave.”

She sighs and opens her eyes, “Okay, goodbye.”

“Are you sure you don’t want to come with me?”

I will try one more time.

“Positive. You should go. The jet will be waiting for you.” She replies with no emotion.

“Alyssa, please stop being mad at me.”

“I am not mad. I am disappointed.” She replies.

I don’t know which one is worse.

“Can I at least get a kiss?”

She shakes her head and turns her back to me. I knew she would be annoyed, but I didn’t expect her to be so mad and disappointed.

I hesitantly get to my feet, “I really am sorry, beautiful. I love you.”

She doesn’t respond. I head for the door. My car will be here to take me to the airstrip any minute.

“Wyatt?” Alyssa says before I exit the room.

I turn to her, “Yes, angel?”

“Text me when your flight lands safely.”

“I will. Please be careful and don’t go out alone at night.”

She nods and turns her back to me again. I smile a little. Even when she is pissed at me, she still wants to know I am safe. I am really praying I can be on my way back by tomorrow night.

I grab my bag and head to my waiting car. The flight is about eight hours long. It is going to be a long, torturous flight. It gives me too much time to think and feel guilty. I hate that she is going to be alone.

I will do what I can to make it up to her when I return. How, I don’t know, but I sure as hell am going to try. I climb into the car. The private airstrip is a forty-five-minute drive—more time to get lost in my thoughts.

I close my eyes and massage my temples. Why did this breach have to happen now when I am away? It is just my fucking luck. I need to find a way to get this issue sorted as quickly as possible. We have a good tech team. They should be able to get to the bottom of it all. I won’t be able to focus on work, but I’ll have to.

I will try to call Alyssa later. Whether she answers or not, it is a different story. Have I made a huge mistake choosing to leave? Probably. I broke my promise to her. I hope she can forgive me.

I must have gotten lost in my head because the next thing I knew, the car door opened.

“We have arrived, sir.” The driver says.

I didn’t even realize we had come to a stop. I thank him and climb out, heading for the jet. I pour a scotch and settle down on a seat. I might try to sleep, but I may fail. My mind will be too busy overthinking. It is going to be eight hours of hell.

I finally arrive home. Angeline and Eric have been staying at my place for a while. There is an issue with her place. I don’t mind them staying, but she will be wondering why I am here.

I texted Alyssa when I landed. All I got was a reply that said okay. She didn’t completely ignore me. I am not home for long, only long enough to drop my things off and shower, and then I will head to the office.

“Angelina, it is Wyatt,” I call out.

I don’t want to scare her or catch them doing something unholy.

“Wyatt?”

I can hear the confusion in her voice. She soon appears in front of me.

“What are you doing back? Where is Alyssa?”

I sigh, guilt taking over again, “I had to come back for an emergency at work. Alyssa is still in Switzerland.”

A disappointed look takes over her face. I hang my head in shame.

“You left her alone in Switzerland? What the fuck, Wyatt? I thought you were past this shut of prioritizing work?” she says and tosses her hands in the air.

“I am past it. Do you think I wanted to leave her behind? Of course, I didn’t, but her stubborn ass refused to come with me.” I groan.

“I don’t blame her. You chose to leave for work. You should have stayed. No matter the situation, you have people to take care of your business. What were you thinking?” she sighs and shakes her head.

“Angelina, don’t stare. I feel like a shitty boyfriend as it is. I feel guilty enough.”

“Okay, I'm sorry. I still think you're an idiot for leaving, but I will drop it, " she says softly.

“Thank you. Can you please check in on her while I am here? She is mad at me and not really talking to me. I need to make sure she is okay.”

“Yes, I will check in with her. I promise.” She smiles.

“Thank you. I am going to grab a quick shower, then go to the office. I plan on being on a flight back by tomorrow night.”

“Good idea.” She pats my back as I walk by her.

I dump my bag in my room. I take my cell out to call Alyssa, but she doesn’t answer.

“Fuck!” I hiss and toss it onto my bed.

I strip down and head for a shower. No one at work better piss me off, or I will snap. It won’t be their fault, but I am in a shitty mood. I have no right to be, but I am annoyed at Alyssa. She didn’t have to react the way she did, yet I understand why she is. I am in the wrong, not her.

I step into the shower and rest against the wall. I close my eyes and enjoy the warm water running over me.

When I return to Alyssa, I won’t leave her again. The next time I come home, she will be with me. I am going to make sure the rest of our trip is perfect and makes memories she will never forget. I will extend it if she wishes. I will do anything to make her happy.

I stay in the shower for fifteen minutes before I climb out and quickly get ready. I check my cell, but still there is nothing from Alyssa. She could possibly be asleep. Switzerland is six hours ahead. It will be eleven at night there.

I am disappointed she didn’t send me a goodnight text if she is.

I sigh and head downstairs.

“Wyatt, can you come to the kitchen, please?” Angelina calls out.

I am tempted to walk out of the door, but I change my mind and go to the kitchen.

“What? I am in a rush.”

“Here, take this with you. I know you haven’t eaten.” She says, handing me a sandwich to take with me.

I roll my eyes but take it. I quickly thank her and rush out to my car. My employees are under strict instructions not to leave until I arrive. I warned some of them it would be a late night. They can complain all they want; I don’t care. The sooner the issue is sorted, the better for everyone. I will make sure they will all get food.
