Chapter255 I’m Pregnant
Mia’s voice came through the phone, and time seemed to stretch endlessly in that moment.
Miranda listened to the voice on the line. Her lips parted, but something felt stuck in her throat. Not a single word came out.
Then she heard two voices behind her at the same time.
Governor Ava’s calm voice and Lisa’s.
“Miranda, are you ready? It’s time to go in.”
Miranda turned around quickly. Governor Ava was looking at her with a gentle smile, and Lisa stood beside her watching quietly.
At that same moment, Mia’s voice came from the phone again.
“Ma’am, Mr. Prescott is still in the hospital. Right now, only you can stop Celeste at Prescott Group!”
The voice was not loud, but in the quiet lounge entrance it sounded unusually clear. Ava and Lisa both heard it.
The smile on Ava’s face faded slightly. She frowned almost imperceptibly and looked at Miranda.
“Do you have something urgent?”
Before Miranda could answer, Ava continued.
“Whatever it is, put it aside for now. You should think carefully. This project is the most critical step before your company goes public. If you miss this chance, you might not get another opportunity for a long time.”
Every word Ava said reflected reality.
And every word struck Miranda’s heart.
In her mind, two voices suddenly began arguing fiercely.
One voice said she could not miss this.
This was the best opportunity her company had ever had. It was the result of countless sleepless nights shared by all her employees. It determined whether the company could successfully go public.
But the other voice kept repeating one name.
Clifton.
He had saved her so many times.
Now it was her turn to protect Prescott.
What felt like a long time was actually only a few seconds.
Miranda had already made her decision.
She took a deep breath. The hesitation in her eyes disappeared. She hung up the phone.
Then she looked at Governor Ava and bowed deeply.
“I’m sorry, Governor Ava.”
Next, she quickly turned to Lisa and spoke as fast as she could.
“Lisa, you know every detail of the project. From now on, you’ll represent me at the bidding meeting. Remember, our bottom line is…”
She quickly listed several key figures and response strategies.
When Miranda finished speaking and was about to leave, Ava suddenly reached out and lightly stopped her.
“Have you really thought this through? You know better than anyone what it means if you leave now.”
There was a hint of regret in Ava’s voice.
Miranda met her gaze and nodded firmly.
“Yes, Governor Ava. I can wait for another chance to go public. My company has the strength to wait.”
“But there’s something else. If I don’t go now, there will be no turning back.”
Ava looked into Miranda’s determined eyes and finally let out a quiet sigh. She withdrew her hand.
“Alright. Go.”
“Thank you.”
Miranda nodded and did not hesitate any longer. She turned and almost ran out.
At that moment, the atmosphere in the top floor conference room of Prescott Group was suffocating.
Celeste had already called a board meeting.
She was sitting in the main seat that originally belonged to Clifton.
Mia could only unite the few directors who remained loyal to Clifton and desperately stall for time.
Celeste looked at the clock. The voting time she had set was approaching.
Sitting in the chairman’s seat, she frowned impatiently.
“We’re not waiting anymore. Start the meeting!”
Mia immediately stepped forward.
“Miss Celeste, two shareholders still haven’t arrived. Since this is a shareholders’ meeting that decides the future chairman of the group, we can’t proceed without them. Besides, the shares those two hold are not small.”
As Clifton’s chief executive assistant, Mia had considerable authority in the company.
She spoke clearly without lowering her voice.
Several directors who had been growing impatient did not object after hearing her.
Celeste’s frown deepened. She glared at Mia.
“Then call them again! Tell them to hurry up!”
“I already called. They said they’re on their way.”
Mia answered calmly.
“Hmph.”
Celeste snorted coldly.
She said nothing more, but the fingers tapping impatiently on the table revealed her irritation.
Time passed slowly.
Another thirty minutes went by.
Celeste’s patience finally ran out.
Some shareholders were also beginning to murmur with dissatisfaction.
Celeste suddenly stood up and looked around the room.
“We’re not waiting anymore! The meeting starts now!”
Before Mia could speak again, Celeste signaled to the bodyguards she had brought.
Two men in black stepped forward immediately.
They grabbed Mia’s arms from both sides and dragged her toward the door.
“Let go of me! Celeste, you don’t have that authority!”
Mia struggled fiercely.
But her strength meant nothing against two professionally trained guards.
With a loud bang, the heavy wooden doors of the conference room slammed shut.
Mia’s voice was completely cut off.
The room fell silent.
Celeste looked satisfied.
She cleared her throat and began speaking confidently.
“Uncles, I believe everyone already knows that my grandfather is in poor health and is currently resting in the hospital. My cousin Clifton unfortunately had an accident and is still missing.”
“According to Prescott family inheritance rules, I am the only legal heir to all of their shares.”
“So starting today, Prescott Group will have a new chairman.”
“Me. Celeste.”
But she had barely finished half her sentence.
The closed doors of the conference room were suddenly pushed open from the outside with a loud bang.
The noise startled everyone.
All eyes turned toward the entrance.
Two shareholders rushed in, breathing heavily.
Behind them stood a slender figure no one expected.
Miranda.
When Celeste saw her, the triumphant smile on her face froze instantly.
A terrible feeling rose in her chest.
“Miranda! What are you doing here?” she shouted sharply.
“This is a Prescott Group board meeting. This is not your place. Get out right now!”
Miranda acted as if she had heard nothing.
A faint smile rested on her lips.
But there was no warmth in it.
She walked in calmly, her high heels echoing across the floor.
Step by step.
When she reached the conference table, Mia also returned and closed the door behind her.
Miranda calmly looked around the room at the directors with different expressions.
Finally, her gaze stopped on Celeste’s darkened face.
Under everyone’s watchful eyes, her red lips parted.
She delivered a shocking piece of news.
“I’m pregnant.”
