Chapter 54 54
Phoebe~~
The three men lunged at me once to hold me, but I bit one of them so hard, and kicked the one standing on the left. When the last guy grabbed my hair, I targeted his chest and landed my elbow on it, and then took off the moment he let go of me.
I didn't stop running, and along the way out of the building, I transformed midway upon seeing the men all coming after me. I jumped over them in my wolf form, running as fast as I could until I leapt through the palace gate.
I knew they wouldn't give up so soon, so I didn't think of stopping and ran into the woods, jumping through the wooden logs on the floor, the tree branches that were short that I could slam my body on.
For almost an hour, I was racing to get myself away from them, not realising that the route that I had taken was leading to the cliff. Once I reached there, I growled in anger and stepped backwards. There was a huge river below, and I wasn't good at swimming. But since there was no other route, and I could already hear the footsteps of the men behind me, I couldn't come up with any idea except falling into the river.
I would die if I did so, and they could kill me or take me back to see my death with my eyes if I were caught, so neither of the options was to my favour.
They hadn't even come into view when I heard the sound of a gunshot, and then the pain ran through my nerves, causing my wolf to whimper. I staggered backwards, my eyes moving in every direction in the woods.
I didn't realise I had reached the edge of the cliff until my paw slipped and I found myself whining and in the air, until I dropped into the water with a thud. I quickly transformed into my human form, struggling even when I knew there was nothing I could do to save myself.
All of my attempts were in vain until I had no other option than to let go of myself if this was my fate.

‘Moon goddess, please revive her. Revive her, great mother of the werewolves.’
I kept hearing that voice, sounding like a rhyme, but I couldn't tell if it was a dream or in the afterlife. By the time my wolf whimpered in me, I didn't need to be told that I was alive, but it stunned me that I didn't feel as though I was in the water.
‘She has to survive, please, or Alpha Knox won't rest in peace,’ that female voice said again.
Who was she to mention my mate? Did she know me?
I forced my eyes open, but it was so heavy, and my vision was blurry, so I shut them again. She seemed to have noticed my body movement, so she began pressing my chest continuously until I choked and threw up water.
While I was still coughing, she helped me to sit up and then gave me a bottle of water to wash my palms and face with. I was on the riverbank, sitting on the sand, while she knelt beside me.
“How do you feel? We have to see a doctor quickly,” she said to me, but I ignored her and emptied the bottle of water after washing up my arm and face. “Did you hear me, female? I'll help you up.”
That was when I finally looked up to see who she was. I rubbed my eyes once, so I would be sure I wasn't seeing things. How come she was saved when she was in the pack too? The veiled lady…staring back at me with so much energy.
She noticed the way I stared at her and asked, “What happened? I saw your body being carried by the river wave, so I rushed and found out it was you. What about Alpha Knox?”
I glanced at the sides, and indeed she was asking. For a pack member who worked in the club, too, I should be asking that. And what about the veil? Does it mean she wears it everywhere?
“Did you get to see the other pack members?” she asked again, drawing my attention.
At that time, I recalled Angeline, whose life was on the line. Was she killed later on or left since I still refused? And the slave mistress. Other pack members, too. Did I forget my people?
I turned to the lady and asked her, “What pack is this?”
She shook her head, “This is the human land.”
What? But she wasn't a human.
“I live in a remote land, so I was here for someone and came to wash up when I saw your body floating.” She narrated further, and I nodded; my lips dropped open. “You don't seem so weak, so we have to leave this place.”
“Does it mean you have no business with the Fearless keepers pack?” I asked, and he nodded. “And you weren't in the club when everything happened, too?” She nodded again.
“I heard of it and checked the whole pack, but I saw no single soul. The palace had been set ablaze, although it didn't collapse. I checked inside it too and saw no one, so I left because I had no business there again,” she explained to me, and I imagined how brave she was to go around the whole pack and even the burnt palace. “I didn't see any corpse in the building, and I heard that Alpha and his Beta were burnt in there.”
Hearing that, my mood soured. So Knox was finally gone? It still looked like my hallucination.
“I will take you to my house. When you regain yourself, we can discuss further.”
“But why are you not in the pack? Are you staying in the same remote land with Beta Drogo?” I asked because I didn't want to have anything to do with Vivien. Her father could have seen this coming and didn't join the pack. There was also a possibility of him knowing about this attack, which was why he wanted his daughter to be Luna.
There was a lot to talk about.
The lady helped me up, and we began leaving the riverbank. When we entered the tarred road, she boarded a cab that took us to her place, and then she made a meal to eat, after which I freshened up and got changed.
She insisted I go for a checkup in the hospital, and I agreed, which she covered the bills. Luckily, I had no issue, and both my wolves were fine, just that I needed enough rest. I wasn't with my cell phone, but the drug was in my panties when Alpha Dean took me, so that was the only thing I took.
It was a relief that nothing about my savings account had to do with my cell phone. I had avoided that because of Knox, and now it helped me not lose all my hope.
The next day, we were chatting about the attack when the veil she hadn't ever gotten off ticked my attention again. What could be the reason for someone to always cover their face this much, even at sleep?
I found it weird, and was curious to see her face, so I pretended to be passing by her and raised the veil, then quickly squatted.
Our gaze locked against each other, and the smile I wore slowly vanished. She looked so shocked by what I did, but I doubted she would accept to do it if I told her. But that wasn't the problem.
This woman had the same look as Knox…and a huge scar on her neck.
