Chapter 43 43

Chapter 43 43
Vivienne~~

The spoon hung midway to my lips when I heard what my headservant had just said. I dropped the spoon into the plate and shifted the table forward. “Do you mean it? She was abducted from the cell?” I asked again, and she nodded.

“According to how I heard it, whoever took her out of the cell impersonated the alpha's beta, so she didn't hesitate to leave with them. Up till now, she hasn't been found,” the headservant narrated further.

Such news awakened the butterflies in my belly, and I wished for nothing other than for her not to be found. Since Knox kicked me out of his room after fingerfucking me, I knew something was up with him. He had sent his men to search my father's residence for the poison I fed in his meal, but my father turned out innocent.

I hoped that he would see every reason to believe that Phoebe was guilty, and my father not held captive, and now this had happened. If she doesn't return alive, then it would be the greatest news of all time.

Happiness made me empty the remaining food on the plate, then put a call through to my father to hear him out. “Dad, are you there?” I asked when he picked up the call, and he cleared his throat. “Did you hear what's going on? That she had gone missing from the cell, and Alpha had gone after her. Are you responsible for it?”

“I don't have such time. How would I when I'm still praying to the moon goddess that Knox doesn't find anything suspicious in my manor? He is so cunning that he could pretend not to see anything, only to bring it to the limelight at a dime a minute,” he stated and cleared his throat again. “I caught a cold from staying up at night outside.”

I pressed my lips together. So he wasn't even sure if Knox found out that we were behind the poisoning? Then we would be doomed if he did.

If finding his mate would make him not think up there again, then he should just find her. But deep down, I don't ever wanna lay eyes on that bitch again.

Even if she doesn't survive out there, he would be mourning her and wouldn't have time for my father at the moment.

“Then, I hope you have your men take care of anything that seems suspicious. I wonder who was behind her abduction."

“Just make sure to stay calm,” he advised and hung up the call.

I crossed my legs, arms folded against my chest.

Since my father had nothing to do with her disappearance, then who could it be? It seemed someone was after her life as well, and I doubted the person would be in this palace. If only whoever the person is would just kill her, and her corpse would be the only thing Knox would see, then it would be much better.

I do not want to see her again, but there's no assurance of my wish being granted.

There, on the sofa, I sat until I dozed off. I couldn't tell how much I slept until I began feeling a touch on my legs, then peeked, and it was my headservant. “What the fuck is it? I really need a rest…”

“He's back with her!”

I jolted from the sofa, my eyes widened. “What did you say? Who is back? And with whom?”

She came again, her voice low and calm, “Alpha Knox is back with his mate.”

I felt as though my world just crumbled before me. As if I had known that the assurance of her death wasn't there, but they returned so fast. If I got lost, would Knox channel the same energy into finding me?

“She doesn't look so weak, but Alpha Knox looks worn out.” My head servant came again, while I paid attention to the movement of her lips. “Also, I heard that he passed out after saving her, and that he lost so much blood, too. I couldn't process what it meant, but there are blood stains on his outfit.”

My fingers were numb. How was it possible that someone who was abducted looked okay, but her saviour looked unwell? What was wrong with Knox that he threw up blood, which spilled on his outfit? There was something hidden, and I needed to find out.

“How weak was he?” I asked my headservant while standing on my feet.

She licked her lips and responded, “So weak that it was his mate who held him while they walked.”

Unbelievable!

“Did you see any sign of fighting, like a torn outfit, a bullet shot, a cut, or bruises?"

She shook her head, “I noticed none. His outfit was still neat, with just those blood stains. He didn't look dirty either, and even his mate doesn't look like that.”

My palms clenched into a fist. It sounded weird, so I wanted to confirm it by myself. I put on my jacket and left the room, heading to him. In the corridor, I rang the doorbell constantly, but no one responded, and I knew for sure that they were all there, including his beta, because I perceived three werewolf energies.

I stood there for a long time, and when neither of them responded, I decided to go back to my room and wait patiently until he made it out. As I took some steps forward, a foul smell hit my nostrils, and I sniffed it out forcefully.

I covered my nose with the back of my palm, but then it hit my brain that such a smell doesn't belong here, so I let go of my nose. I inhaled the foul smell once again and then decided to track where it came from.

What I didn't expect was to find out the smell came from Knox's room. I stayed there for a few seconds just to confirm, and my sense of smell was right.

One thing that came to my mind instantly was that he was attacked by a demon. Was it a demon who posed as Levi and took his mate away just to lure him out? Before a demon comes for a mortal, they must have something in common, so what was going on?

All those questions I couldn't find an answer for, but I knew something wasn't right.
