Chapter 19: Revenge
Chapter 19
Eileen pov
“Eileen, please have your seat.” he gestured and I took my seat.
He cleared his throat. “From my left, that has Dr. Mary Win, and Engr. Russel Bricks.” They smiled at me and I nodded.
I wanted to stretch my hands forth and shake them, but I was scared they'd embarrass me.
So, I pulled back my hands and smiled at them. “Nice to meet you sir and ma, my name is Eileen.”
“Of course, we know your name. We are your father’s friends. You've grown so big since you were a child.” the man said and heat stole into my face.
“She should cut down her meal plans and start fasting. Perhaps she eats so much like a glutton that's why she's so swollen like a pig.” the woman said.
I looked at her, and her florid, self-satisfied face mocked me.
My cheeks flushed red in crimson.
“Mary?” Engr Russel called out her name, clearing his throat.’
“I was only giving her candid advice.” she maintained her stance, grabbing the glass of wine before her and gulping down the contents.
She leaned forth. “Darling, oh please don't get me wrong. As a lady you have to look so presentable and sophisticated that's how you can grab power.” She raised her brows and smiled at me.
But, I know those smiles of hers weren't genuine.
I hate her.
“You hate her for telling the truth? Come on you should walk on yourself.” a small voice at the back of my mind mocked me.
“I’m sorry but I won't be able to sit down here and have a conversation with her.” Dr. Mary rose to her feet, grabbing her purse.
“Mary,” the other man called but she puckered her lips.
“I’m trying to be accommodating but her physique is making me want to retch up. I will be back to discuss business with you all when she finally cuts down her weight.”
Marcus didn't talk. He was quietly strumming his fingers against the table. I guessed these people were more powerful than him.
“Mary, you should learn to respect Maxwell's legacy. You know what Maxwell did to those who dared to talk dirty about Eileen while growing up as a child?” Marcus gritted his teeth and lifted his gaze to meet Mary.
“You’re in no place to talk to me in such rude manners, Marcus. I can have you fired!”
Marcus tried to talk but I grabbed his hands and he stilled without sparing me a glance.
“To cut the story short, I'll be selling my shares and resigning as a shareholder in that corporation, I can't have this ugly thing controlling me.” she spat and walked away.
Engr Russel sighed and gulped down a brandy wine. “Be positive Eileen. So sorry about your father’s death.”
Father? I think he's referring to my stepdad when he mentioned father.
“I’ll see you at the funeral tomorrow.” Engr Russel said, standing up.
He was leaving too.
My confidence had just been bruised by their behaviors.
When the left and it was just me and Marcus, he cleared his throat.
“You're beautiful just the way you are. Ignore their words, okay?” he arched his brows at me.
I nodded and couldn't stop the tear that flowed down my cheek.
“Let's call it a night, miss.” he sighed, rising to his feet.
“May I ask the reason you've called me out here?” he lowered his gaze to me. “I thought you said you wanted to discuss some important with me about the funeral? But these…” I trailed off my words.
“Yes. Actually, I don't know what it is about. Your stepdad is a business associate with them. They had called me to say that they would need to talk to the person. Who's inheriting your stepdad's wealth and I just invited you here to meet them.”
I stared hard at him to study his face but he didn't seem like someone who was lying.
“I have one more favor to ask,” I said.
He interrupted me. “Is it about your sister, Anna?”
I raised my brows at him. How was he able to read my mind?
“I’ve released her and I promised she won't ever bully you. If anyone dares to bully you, just let me know.”
“Thank you,” I muttered, crying. “But, is this real?” I asked.
“Pardon?” he said.
“About my stepdad choosing me as the heir to his wealth? Is that real?” my voice broke as I inquired the truth.
He shook his head. “There are many beneficiaries, miss. But, you just seem to hold more of...” he trailed off, giving a faint sigh. “I’m sorry. I can't talk about anything until tomorrow after the funeral.”
Marcus walked me to my room, but I begged him to please show me the way to Anna’s room.
He did and waved me a goodnight.
I knocked on Anna’s door and got in. The moment she saw me. Her facial expressions turned sour and she hissed.
“Get out of my room, Eileen. I swear I've told mum about how you ask that fake attorney of yours to lock me up for a week and guess what dad said?” She tilted her jaw as she spoke in a low voice.
I know it was trouble.
“I didn't want to know. Keep it to yourself, but you should behave yourself during the funeral tomorrow as luck might not be on your side next time.”
Anna cackled into a peal of laughter and looked at me in condescension. “So because your mother’s whore decided to include you in his inheritance. You think that has made you to be more better than me?”
I walked up to her and slapped her. “Keep my stepdad out of your filthy mouth. He's a whore but you're not ashamed to sleep in his mansion. Your worthless mother even begged for you to attend his funeral.” I fumed.
Anna held onto her cheeks tightly then a coy smile settled at the top of the corner of her mouth.
“Tomorrow, during the funeral I shall seek my revenge.” she snapped her fingers at me. “And not even your attorney will be able to save you from me.”
