Chapter 16: Mysterious
Chapter 16
Eileen pov
When I got downstairs, Anna was dressed in the same dress as me but in a different color.
She was putting on a brown jumpsuit, she had her hair dyed a blonde color, and her nails colored black.
Even her lashes were fixed but to an average length.
“So, Eileen this is your box, and the clothes and all the stuff you'll need for your funeral are in there,” Emily said, pointing over a lilac suitcase.
It was beautiful and classic.
The doorbell rang interrupting Emily as she opened her mouth to speak.
She hurried to the door and had it opened.
“Come on girls,” she gestured over with her hands. “Attorney Marcus is here to pick you girls up.”
Anna stared at me and smiled before walking away.
When we got outside, attorney Marcus rushed over to my side to assist me with my suitcase.
Anna hissed so loudly. “Why would you help her with her suitcase when it's obvious that I'm the one in need of the help here?” she lashed out, squeezing her face.
Her words caused attorney Marcus to look in her direction.
Emily rushed forth and begged on Anna’s behalf. “Please, forgive her. She has no idea of what she's talking about.” Emily begged.
Emily glared murderously at Anna and made some lip movements with her.
Attorney Marcus didn't utter a word but to take my suitcase to the back of the car.
He opened the door for me to get into the backseat and when Anna tried to move in with me his cold glare stopped her from embarking on that act.
“You may stay at the front, miss,” he gestured at Anna.
Anna pursed her lips and walked to the passenger seat, right beside the driver.
The backseat left me in a stunned silence. There was a television, a mini fridge, and... I can't list everything here.
This smells luxurious.
“As soon as we get to Washington I'll ask my assistant to get you a funeral dress,” he said.
I smiled at him. “My stepmom already got me what I'll need for the burial,” I said.
The smile on his face faded, and his voice became thick. “And you like them?”
Damn his eyes! They were captivating and causing me to drool.
I lowered my gaze, swallowing so hard. I can't allow him to see how affectionate I am feeling right now.
“I’m yet to check them out. But, she's fashionable and I trust her decisions and tastes,” I replied.
“Fine,” he lifted his shoulders. “If you say so.”
“Yeah,” I muttered, refusing to look up at him.
“So I have some things to brief you about before the funeral which is to take place tomorrow,” he said and I nodded.
He reached for his briefcase and brought out a file. Then he slid his hands and brought out a document.
Attorney Marcus extended the document to me.
I accepted it, staring at the document like it was a kind of an ancient artifact.
I stared at attorney Marcus askance.
“You’ll be called out to say something nice about him. I've drafted what you'll say as everything that will happen tomorrow will be aired online.”’
I looked down and stared at the first written sentence, the vocabulary and grammar kind of set my heart on fire.
“Thank you,” I muttered.
“You're always welcome.” he waved at me, maintaining his dark aura.
“I-i,” my voice cracked and I choked on my words the moment his gaze flew to my side.
I clutched and hit my hands on my chest.
Attorney Marcus reached out for the fridge and brought out a bottle of water.
He flipped the cover and extended the water to me. “Drink up,” he gestured with his lower jaw.
Damn! His voice was angelic.
After gulping the entire water down my throat. I heaved a deep sigh and looked in his direction.
“I’m sorry.” I apologized in a genuine tone.
“You don't have to.” he snapped, heightening his shoulders.
I nodded.
“So is there anything I need to know?” I asked him.
“Yes, miss,” he answered and my gaze flickered to his side.
Damn! The way his lips slowly parted nearly makes me wet my panties. He was so cute.
“And what could that be?” I asked.
“You must not speak with any reporter or grant an interview to them. Don't worry we have our selected news outlets. On their microphone, you will see Ox news.”
My breath caught in my chest at his words cause they sounded like a parable to my ears.
“I don't understand you, sir.” I stammered.
He clapped his hands and leaned forward.
“If you go through the letter in your hands. You'll understand everything you're supposed to know.” he reached for the fridge handle and grabbed a bottle of water.
He drank little from it and dropped it right beside him.
“As soon as we get to Washington, many reporters will flood in but you're not allowed to speak to anyone among them until tomorrow. And tomorrow you have to watch out for Ox news. They already sent us the questions that will be asked and the answer that you're supposed to say.”
I hesitated a bit before I answered him in a drowsy voice. “Alright. But I have a question.”
I stared at him in a hard way.
Attorney Marcus gestured with his hands. “Go on.”
I swallowed hard, breathing deeply as I deliberated on my thoughts. Will attorney Marcus get angry at my questions?
“Will you ever get mad at me if I ask the wrong questions?” I asked, staring at him intently.
His facial expression was stern then his response filled the air. “No.”
“Okay. Did my stepdad have a wife and children before my mother? If so how many children did he have?”
The air became eerily silent and before he could talk. The door to the sedan opened and he helped me down.
“We are at the airport, miss. Your airline is right over there. I’m sorry miss but I didn't book the same airline for us.”
“Why?” I asked.
He smiled. “For security purposes.”
Soon I was led away to a spot where there were a few queues and my name and ID card were taken from me, then I was shown the way I was supposed to take.
Attorney Marcus ran over to my side, and handed over a cellphone to me then told me, “You just have to wait for me when you get to the airport in Washington.”
I nodded.
After getting into the airplane. The air hostess announced that we should turn off our phones.
Thirty minutes later, the air hostess announced our arrival at the Washington airport.
I waited as instructed and in no time attorney Marcus walked over to my side alongside Anna.
We got into a luxurious Lamborghini after being cleared at the airport.
When I got to my stepdad’s house. I still couldn't get over the luxurious taste even though it's been eleven years since I left Washington as a child.
I was led to a room and for a moment the world seemed to stop because I felt I just saw someone who looked like Ryan.
