Chapter 165 Why mummy?
She shook her head and continued painting.
“Is it your little secret?” She asked gently, crunching down, brushing the stray strand blonde that covered her face so she could see the little girl’s face.
She nodded. “For daddy only.”
“Okay. Why does it have to be—”
“Havilah.” The little girl stiffened. The guide stepped outside for the mother and daughter
Eva suddenly pulled Havilah into a hug. “Oh baby, I thought I lost you,” she kissed both her cheeks. “Oh Heavens,” she cried. “Does it hurt anywhere? I’m sorry mummy didn’t protect you enough? From now on I will never leave your side again,”
When she had woken up and was told Havilah was already awake and was outside. She pulled off her IV and ran all the way. The security assigned to them followed immediately.
Her eyes looked at the drawing on the paper. She packed up the papers and collected the one the nurse had. Then she smiled at her.
“You can go, I will take my child for a walk by myself,” she said.
The guide looked at Havilah then back at Eva. “Ma’am you just woke up yourself. I don’t want to stress you. I will just do it. Avi is still weak she needs a professional”
The smile on Eva’s face faltered. She looked at the nurse who looked like she was in her mid thirties. Her hair sleeked back and the bun fitted into her nurse cap. She looked beautiful and had a warm smile. Her eyes fell lower to her name tag.
“Nora,” she called softly but the edge could be heard “Are you underestimating the strength of a mother? Do you think I am not capable of taking care of my child?”
Nurse Nora’s face turned surprised at the accusation. “No..no ma’am that’s not what I mean.”
“What do you mean then? Tell me because I don’t understand.”
The nurse was silent. She was just studying the little girl. She felt like something wasn’t right but maybe she was overthinking it. She was Avis' mother after all.
“I’m sorry for the misunderstanding. You can take her,” she said, with a little bow.
Eva rolled her eyes as she wheeled Havilah away. She rolled in silence until they got a quiet part of the garden. She stopped the guards from following.
“Havilah this should be the last time you paint these .” She crouched down beside her daughter. “You should never show or speak about this to your father,” she told her.
“Why not? I have to show daddy.” Havilah's soft voice sounded.
“Because if you do. Your daddy wouldn’t want us anymore. We would be thrown out like rags. You will never get to see him again. He will never get to hug you again and he will hate us deeply. Is that what you want Avi?” Her voice was slightly raised.
Avi’s eyes glistened. “N-o”
“So this should be kept away from him,” Eva said tearing the drawing into shreds
Eva saw tears slide down her daughter's eyes. She wiped it and pulled her into a hug. “Sometimes we make sacrifices for the things we want. We both want daddy so we have to keep shut.”
Havilah bit her lips then asked the question.
“Mummy, why did you hurt me?”
Eva paused. Her eyes turned wider than the saucer pan. Her blood ran cold. She swallowed a thick lump that had lodged in her throat. Slowly she pulled away from Avi.
“W-hat.. what did you say?”
Havilah looked her in the eye. “I saw you mummy, you pushed me from the stairs. Why? Don’t you want me? Do you hate me deeply too?” She asked.
Shit! She held her daughter's hand and shook her head. “I want you more than anything in this world, you are my lucky charm. I gave my whole blood for you. I will never hate you. You are a part of me in person.” She kissed the arm. “You know I said you have to make sacrifices right?”
Avi nodded.
After her altercation with her father. He had asked if she could make Maverick show up. The only way was her daughter. Her bargaining chip. The hold she had on him. The stairs weren't that high; she had thought Avi would secure a little scratch. Avi came out from Edward’s study when she pushed her.
Before she screamed for attention she had taken a shot and sent it to Maverick. But she didn’t expect everything to escalate into a blood spree. But Maverick had showed up.
“That was our sacrifice so daddy would come to us. He was here yesterday and he is on his way here to see you. When he comes, make him stay with us so he doesn’t leave okay?”
“Okay.” She held her daughter's cheeks.
“Do you love daddy?” Eva asked.
“I-I do,” a sob broke from her throat.
“Then he can never find out, no one should ever hear I pushed you . That will be our little secre—”
“EVANGEL!”
