Chapter 49

Archer POV:

We are being taken to Madame Lorraine’s den in the city and I feel absolutely nothing leaving this cold place. Dawn’s plan is edgy and risky, but I think it is clever and if executed well we have a real chance at winning. She is right that brute force is not the way to challenge Harken. Feng may have sheltered us, but he is in the background and will not orchestra this himself. In the underground mafia business, your reputation is everything and while assassination attempts are valid, the more frequent you try and fail the more tarnished your reputation becomes. A gang leader cannot appear to be desperate about something or someone. That just makes the other leader more appealing. So it is clear that they want us to cut each other down while they wait behind to pick up the profit or dust away the loss. Feng has allowed five of the monk warriors to accompany us in tomorrow’s quest. We can be heavily outnumbered so the plan that we revised has to work. Everyone’s face is stoic and tensed but they all put their faith on Dawn’s idea. I don’t know what the consequences will be tomorrow and how will it affect us, but I hope with all my heart that we live to face the consequences first and then together we might figure out a way to live our lives positively and happily.

Once we reach the city we all gather up in the hall room including Madame Lorraine and discuss about tomorrow’s plan once more. When we are done we are shown our rooms which to my relief are well furnished and has the city vibe we all have been craving.

“Seems like Madame Lorraine is not a devotee after all” Dawn says smiling playfully.

“Yeah she is way too tough to be swayed” I reply. When we settle on our bed I ask Dawn.

“What are your expectations for tomorrow?”

“I hope none of us gets killed” she says

“Listen if you don’t want to kill Harken, we can skip that part. We can hand him over to Feng and he can have all the credit”

“Thank you. I don’t want to do that, but it depends on the situation”

“I have one more thing to say. If you find that something is going wrong you will run away if opportunity comes. Even if I don’t make it out. You..” she kisses me sealing my mouth with hers and not letting me finish.

“We will make it out together and if you say anything else about that I will leave right now”

I hold her more tightly and kiss her again whispering an apology on her lips. I would have given the same reply to her, so it all depends on tomorrow now.
