Chapter 114: Seeing them again
Allison's POV
"I'm telling you, Allie," Tasha uttered, as we stepped into the event hall. "I was so shocked when I got the call to manage this event. A whole billionaire CEO saw my small brand and decided to trust it. He changed my life for real."
"That's great, T. I'm so happy for you, babe. You deserve the best things in life." I replied.
We were currently at a charity gala which Tasha was in charge of. The event was filled with the creme de la creme of the society, and I couldn't help but feel out of place in my black bodycon dress.
As Tasha was the event manager, she had quite a few connections and had helped me in securing a job as a server, in order to earn some money for Aiden's treatment.
Nowadays, I couldn't bring myself to shy away from working any because being ashamed wasn't going to take care of my child's medical bills.
Every day after clocking out of work, I worked three remote jobs. And on the weekends, I worked as a waitress at a coffee shop downtown.
Tasha had often advised me against straining my body like that but I didn't care because in all honesty, I didn't feel drained by the jobs. If anything, the fact that my son would finally get to live and enjoy his life like a normal kid his age was extremely invigorating.
"Thanks, babe." She said, averting her gaze to the notepad in her hold.
"You're welcome. Let me go and meet the caterers before they think of me as lazy." I told her, to which she nodded, darting me a concerned look.
"Are you sure you can do this, Allie? You were up all night on your computer and you look quite pale. Maybe you should rest for a while and I'll meet with the cate-"
Smiling, I interrupted her. "Don't worry yourself about me, T. I'm fine,"
When she didn't look at all convinced by my utterance, I sighed. "Really."
"Okay, if you say so, then I will believe you. Just make sure to rest the moment you feel weak, alright?"
"Alright, T."
"I'll see you around then." She threw me a short wave before sauntering away.
Inhaling shakily, I massaged my temples which were throbbing with an intense ache but I didn't want to take Tasha's advise and sit because I didn't feel the need to.
After all, it was just an headache, and nowadays, I had frequent headaches which dissipated, without me having to take any pain killers.
Retrieving a tray, I gently placed three wine goblets on it then grabbed a bottle of champagne and walked into the main area.
"Hey, I need champagne," A bald, old man yelled from behind me, and I inhaled shakily before walking over to him.
Leering at me, the man bit his lips. "What's your name?"
Ignoring him, I poured some champagne into a wine goblet and placed it in front of him.
"You are playing hard to get, huh?" He chuckled, exposing his brown set of crooked teeth. "I love women like you because I love putting in the work to get my women. I will tell you something, remember this moment when you're moaning beneath me in my villa."
"What the fuck?" The words were out of my mouth before I could stop them.
However, I felt no regret because this old man was a strange pervert.
How could he just open his large mouth and utter such nasty words to a woman?.
Did he think he could have any woman he set his eyes on simply because he was wealthy?
"I wonder what that pretty mouth can do other than cursing." He said, wrinkled eyes crinkling with a smile.
Giving him a wide grin, I leaned in and whispered. "It can tell you to take your villa and shove it up your ass, and then fuck yourself."
To my utter satisfaction, his mouth slackened in shock. As I looked in the direction of the other occupants of the table, I was shocked to see Max.
How hadn't I noticed him from the start?
He darted me a smile and was about to talk when Tasha rushed to me.
"Allison, the caterer needs more serviette. Could you please go grab some from the van?" She asked.
I nodded. "Sure."
"Thanks, babe." She replied, and trekked away while Max darted me a knowing smile, as realization struck me;
He had finally known my real name.
Without bothering to think of it, I left the table and quickly went to the van, while cursing my luck inwardly.
"I knew your name wasn't Dorcas. You don't give off Dorcas vibes," Max's voice wafted into my thoughts, as I trekked the hallway to the exit.
Fuck.
Sighing, I stopped in my tracks and folded my arms on my chest. "Congratulations. You finally know my name."
"Right?" He inched closer; so dangerously close that I could feel the tip of his shoes on mine and his breath on mine.
"What do you want?" I asked, clenching my hands into fists.
Before he could respond, the other bane of my existence, Leo, suddenly walked past us, a phone pressed to his ears.
On seeing us, his eyes widened but he quickly composed himself and just walked past us, without uttering a word.
"I like you, Allison. I find you very intriguing," Max began. "I want to get to know you more, petal. What do you say?"
For some reason, I couldn't focus on Max's words as the only thing my mind could register at that moment was that Leo had seen Max and I together.
Why it bothered me, I didn't know.
"I-I am not interested. Excuse me." I rambled out, and rushed away to the van.
