Chapter 59: The return
Rebeca
I got in the car and sped off to my house. I drove the whole way in silence and when I arrived, I got out of the car and stopped the man who was walking beside me.
\- Cover your face with this. - I hand him a mask and a cap, and he does so without saying anything.
We walked to the front door and he stood behind me, knowing exactly where the house key was kept. I found Cherry in the living room, along with the rest of my family. My swollen, red eyes showed that I had been crying and the seriousness in my countenance showed that I wasn't joking.
\- Did you? - she asks.
I nodded silently.
\- And where's the head? - my father asks. I suspect the head was his request and not Cherry's.
I'm going to have a very serious talk with my old man.
\- In the car, it was dripping with blood, I didn't want to get it on the floor. - I say.
\- And who is this man? - he asks when he sees the silent figure next to me.
\- He's a private security guard I hired some time ago, since the day Sebastian was shot, he's been with me most of the time. - I lied.
\- I see. We want proof that you really did end that bastard's life. - Cherry asks.
\- Of course, I can send for it, however, there's something I'd like to know before I do that. - I'll start.
\- What is it? - she asks suspiciously.
\- Were you in on this together, or is my family unaware of the threat you made to me? - I ask.
\- What threat? - my mother stands up with a worried look on her face.
\- It's nothing, ma'am. - Cherry replied hastily.
\- Yes, it's nothing, just a slight threat she made to me, or should I say, a blackmail. - I say.
\- Cherry, what is she talking about? - my father stands up too.
\- As I said, it's nothing. It was just a joke, now, why don't you show me the proof of your service? - he asks with a toothy grin.
It's clear that my parents aren't aware of the methods she used to get me to agree to murder Sebastian, I wonder what they'll do when they find out how she used me.
\- Fine, but first I want to know where the bomb is. Do you really think I'm going to give you Sebastian's head without first knowing whether this bomb really exists or not? - I purposely expose your scheme.
Everyone stands up at once, exclamations of surprise filling the room immediately.
\- I can't tell you where it is. - you say.
\- Why? - I ask, suspecting something bigger behind it.
\- Because I don't know where she is! - she says.
I feel a wave of anger come over me and I quickly approach her, forgetting that she's pregnant, but the man behind me holds me tightly and I struggle angrily.
\- You threatened to kill my entire family so that I would kill Sebastian and when I get here, you have the nerve to tell me that you don't know where the damn bomb is! Have you lost your mind? - I shouted.
\- Shut up, I was desperate. - Give it back.
\- And do you think I felt like killing the man I've been in love with since before I married him? How do you think I felt when I pulled the trigger? And all for a bomb that doesn't even exist! - I shout even louder.
It's not a rational anger, it's something irrational, full of indignation and despair and I feel grateful that I didn't go all the way, otherwise I would have killed her without a second thought and regretted it later.
However, at the moment, I consider her a cow.
\- The bomb does exist! - he said.
My father tried to speak, but I silenced him with a look.
He'd better stay out of this.
\- And why the hell don't you know where it is? - I ask.
\- Because I'm just doing what I was told to do. - he says.
\- How can you be so stupid as to let someone plant a bomb in your house and not even know where it is? How do you expect this shit not to explode? - I shout indignantly.
\- That's because I was desperate. - you admit it. - Now you know how I feel.
\- I don't know shit, you know why? Because I didn't kill Sebastian. - I say.
Cherry opens her mouth in surprise, her eyes fill with tears and she sits sobbing copiously, her face buried in her hands. I calm down a little when I see the scene, but it doesn't last long as my father intervenes this time.
\- Rebeca, I know Cherry's methods weren't the best, but you should have taken this opportunity and done what you had to, after all, he murdered your brother. - He scolded me and I can't believe what I'm hearing.
It pains me to see you supporting my sister-in-law's stupid decision, all out of a desire for revenge.
\- He didn't kill anyone! - I exclaimed angrily.
\- You saw it yourself, how can you say that? - my mother shouts in outrage.
\- Because he didn't kill Roderick. - I insist.
\- And how can you prove that? Are you going to say that our brother is going to walk through that door now? Don't be ridiculous, Rebeca. It seems that love has blinded you. - my brother sneers.
That idiot.
\- Shut up, you little shit. Roderick won't come through that door, because he's already in here. - I point to the man who let me go and is standing behind me.
\- This isn't funny, Rebeca. - my father says.
\- You've gone mad. - my mother scolds.
My brothers just snorted and gave me looks full of disappointment.
I looked at the man behind me and nodded. He returned the gesture, lowered his head, took off his mask and cap and raised his head.
The room once again filled with exclamations of surprise, as Roderick opened his arms and everyone ran to him, I watched the scene full of sorrow, but grateful that my brother was alive and hoping to get an explanation for this as soon as possible, because, I know what I saw, and I saw him dead, how can he be here now? I checked his vital signs, I saw the tattoo he got for Cherry, and yet, against all logic, he's alive.
Fuck it, I just want to know what this is all about.
