Chapter 7: His arrival
“No, I’m not going to stay in the same chamber with a monster like you!” Hazel retorted, glaring at Alpha Damien with so much hatred enough to chill the bones, but the person himself did not even glance at her as he busied himself with a book.
Receiving the order, the middle-aged woman approached Hazel and grabbed her by the arms. Hazel tried to struggle out of her hold, but realized that the woman was abnormally strong.
Her hold was like an iron grip, Hazel could not get away no matter how much she tried and fear crept into her heart.
How could she bear to share a bed with Alpha Damien or even have him touch her? She would rather die than experience that kind of life.
But the middle-aged woman did not even give her a chance before pulling her out of the study.
“Let go of me!" Hazel demanded, her face scrunched up together in a mix of defiance and hidden fear.
It was as though the woman could not hear her, she said nothing to Hazel and pulled her across the corridors and towards a secluded wing of the mansion.
Unbeknownst to Hazel, as soon as the door to the study was shut, Alpha Damien started coughing incessantly and spurted out mouthfuls of blood.
The woman pushed Hazel into a chamber fiercely before closing the heavy doors with a bang.
Finally, she glanced at Hazel and a trace of pity lingered in her eyes.
“Young lady, I advise you to put away your pride and listen to the Alpha. Your stubbornness and defiance will not land you anywhere but make you suffer even more. You should be grateful that the Aloha did not order for your execution. The last person who trespassed into his study was whipped before death by beheading.” The woman explained and her last statement made Hazel's eyes twitch.
She really does not want to stay here anymore.
She was tired of it all.
“I’m sure you also have a child, can you endure seeing your child in a position like me?” She asked, staring at the woman intently. “Please, just help me escape from here, I beg you.”
Hazel could put away her pride to beg other people, but begging the violent Alpha was a no-no. She would never do it.
However, the woman merely let out a sigh before walking towards the bathhouse.
“You should get yourself cleaned up before he arrives. If not, we both will face his wrath.” The woman said softly without turning her head and Hazel pressed her lips together.
She glanced at the woman and then at the entrance, then she bolted for the door.
No matter what, she would never allow that beast to touch her.
However, the door wouldn’t bulge no matter how much she opened it. She swiped the latch to the side and tried once again, but it was still the same.
“I have the key with me.” The woman behind her said and Hazel lowered her head, forcing back the tears that threatened to spoil. “The bath is ready.”
Like that, Hazel had no choice but to allow the woman to clean her up thoroughly. Sinking into the warm scented bath, Hazel found herself relaxing.
She never knew she needed such a bath until that moment.
That was when the woman began to speak once again.
“I have no child. Well, I had one, but she died during a battle.” She said and Hazel’s eyes flew open.
She couldn’t believe she had just poked at the woman’s wound. Even if it was unintentional, Hazel still felt guilty.
“I’m sorry. I…I didn’t know. Alpha Damien must have waged war against your pack and killed your people too, right? But why do you still serve him? Shouldn’t you look for ways to get revenge?” Hazel asked the last part in confusion.
She could not understand why the woman still listens to that man after he had killed all her people and even her child.
Yet, the woman shook her head. “No, it wasn’t him.”
Hazel’s next word halted.
The woman continued, “It was never him. My pack was destroyed overnight by a group of unknown people and my family went with the battle. I tried hard to save some children and managed to survive, but failed to save mine. Alpha Damien was passing by that day and saved our lives, he brought us here and gave us a new life.”
Hazel could not believe it.
“Surely, he must have his reasons. I don’t believe that man would be so benevolent.” She insisted, staring at the woman who smiled bitterly.
“I have been staying here for more than ten years and he never asked anything from me. I was even the one who decided to be a maid and he allowed it. Alpha Damien might be violent, but when you start understanding him, you will know that he is not such a bad person.”
“Understand that beast?” Hazel mumbled under her breath and averted her gaze.
Not long after, the bath finally came to an end.
“I don’t know your name.” Hazel asked as the woman began dressing her up.
“Matilda.”
Hazel was dressed in a simple white dress, and after cleaning all the dirt on her body away, her serene beauty became obvious even without accessories.
“You are beautiful.” Matilda commented, admiring the work of her hand with a satisfied look.
Hazel said nothing and just smiled.
“I will take my leave now, call for me if you need anything.” Matilda told her and even though Hazel did not want to be alone right now, she still forced herself to nod.
When Matilda left, Hazel could not calm down. She kept pacing back and forth, unsure of what to do.
The door was locked and she could not escape through the windows because she had seen the guards patrolling close by earlier.
At this point, Hazel had no choice but to try to use the skills Lilith has taught her in the dungeons. She didn’t care if exposing that could ruin a lot of things.
Yet, she waited for hours after night fell, but the Alpha beast was still nowhere to be seen.
From pacing, she moved to resting against the wall and then sitting at the edge of the bed. And when she laid down, she almost moaned as her back came into contact with the soft, plush bed and pillows.
After weeks of sleeping on the hard floor, she could finally enjoy a soft bed.
Hazel did not even know when she started dozing off.
But then, the door creaked open and she jolted awake, but remained still on the bed, heart beating violently against her rib cage.
Even without opening her eyes, she knew it was him.
His scent…
She could not understand why it left a deep impression on her.
“I know you are awake, little one.” Hazel heard him say and she went stiff on the bed.
Alpha Damien stared at the figure on the bed and his lips curled slightly. He approached the bed and stared down at her for a second, taking in the sight of the red marks on her pale neck and wrist.
Probably because of the chains used on her.
But for some reason, he frowned.
Hazel was about to speak when she perceived another scent mixed with Alpha Damien’s.
“Blood?”
