Marcus's POV
I was still there not sure where to hide. The footsteps were getting closer. The cell had no hiding place and it was too late for me to run out.
Kim swung his right hand as if casting something into the hair. Suddenly I heard a loud bang at the far end of the hallway. I heard footsteps of guards running in that direction. Then I heard the footstep which was approaching a while ago retreating hurriedly.
I heaved a sigh of relief. "How did you do that?" I asked bewildered.
"It's a common trick in my pack, we use it to distract people." He explained.
Whatever that was I was truly grateful for it. I wanted to hear everything but I risked getting caught if I stay any further so I told them I will find a more suitable time to come and see them.
"We need to get out of here," Kin said.
"I understand. All you need to do is tell my father who you are. Let everyone know you are not spies or a threat to us. That's all we are afraid of." I explained to them.
They both looked at each other and laughed. Is that what you think?" They asked.
"I can't blame you though. Your mind is still too young"
It's funny how they talked like old men because they looked like they were younger than my younger brothers.
"What do you mean? " I asked.
Have you wondered why we are still here? Do you think it's because your father thinks we are spies? No.
We are still your father's prisoners because of Zul.
Millennium ago, people tried to steal it because of its power. A lot were killed because of it and packs were thrown into chaos. My pack was the rightful custodian if it took it and hid it away with the agreement that no one will speak of it until the chosen one emerges.
When the chosen one is ready, the green light will emit telling us that he or she is ready.
Now not just that the chosen one has emerged. What is more worrisome is that the world is in danger. Soon packs will be thrown into tantrums.
Except if of course, the chosen one intervenes. This is why she needs to unlock all of her powers as soon as possible.
Without her powers, she will not be able to stop anything. She cannot unlock her power without Zul.
That is why we need to find her." I listened to Quinn as he explained. I didn't know whether to believe him or not but something told me he was telling the truth.
"First of all I don't know who or what this chosen one is, secondly how am I sure this story is not made up? Besides, why tell me about this? Why not someone else?" I asked.
"We can't tell just anybody about this. We chose to tell you because you seem to have a strong connection with the chosen one".
"I don't even know who the chosen one is" I protested.
"Zul emitted light before you, right? To be honest that is strange. It is only supposed to do that in front of the chosen one.
If you were a woman we would have concluded you are the chosen one" Kin said.
"But it is a sign that there is a strong connection between you and the chosen one."
She must be someone dear to you. I believe you would not want someone dear getting hurt right? That is why you need to let us out of here. We need to find her and help her unlock her powers.
I wasn't sure what to believe. I didn't want any hasty decision. To avoid mistakes.
"Give me time to think this through" I finally said after thinking long and hard.
"Do that but remember time is of the essence," Kim said and I left the cell.
As I walk back to the village I thought about all the things the twins said to me and I couldn't shake off the feeling that they were telling the truth but I can't afford to make hasty decisions that I will regret.
I decided to go and see my father before I go to my room. When I arrived at his chambers, I was told that he was having a private meeting with his counsel members.
That sounded odd and something prompted me to find out what it was they were discussing.
I pretended as if I was leaving then I tiptoed to the other side where the window was.
From their discussion, I gathered my father was not in the room with his counsel members. The person in the room was an alpha of another pack.
They were talking about Zul. My father seems to know a lot about Zul. Kin and Kim were right.
He was planning to offer Zul for sale. I can't believe my father could be that greedy.
Now I got the answer I need. I knew immediately that I need to help Kim and Kin escape.
But the dungeon is heavily guarded. I will have to come up with a good plan. The buyers according to what I gathered are already on their way and will arrive any moment.
I knew I had no time to waste. I have to get them to leave before these people come.
Later in the night when everyone had slept off. I went to the dungeon.
As I stepped into the cold, damp dungeon, the flickering torchlight cast eerie shadows on the damp stone walls. The stench of urine and feces was overwhelming, but I pushed past it, determined to carry out my plan.
With a deep breath, I approached the guards, feigning concern for their well-being. "Are you alright?" I asked, holding out a flask of wine. "You both look tired. Perhaps you could use a drink to help you stay awake?"
The guards, who had been nodding off, eagerly took the flask and drank deep. Within seconds, the drug took effect, and they slumped to the ground, snoring loudly. I quickly removed their keys and unlocked the prisoners' chains.
"Come on," I whispered urgently. "We have to move quickly."
Kim and Kin stumbled to their feet, It's as if they already knew I coming this night.
As we run I could see the gratitude in their eyes as they followed me out of the cell, but I knew our escape was far from over.
As we crept through the dimly lit corridors, I kept a watchful eye out for any signs of danger. Every creak of the floorboards made me jump, and I held my breath as we passed by a group of guards, praying they wouldn't notice us.
Finally, we reached the exit, but it was heavily guarded. I motioned for the men to stay back as I stepped forward, my heart pounding in my chest.
"Good evening," I said smoothly, trying to sound as casual as possible. "I was just on my way back to my chambers. Do you mind if I pass through?"
The guards eyed me suspiciously, but I could see the drug was still affecting them. They nodded, and I breathed a sigh of relief as we slipped through the gates and into the night.
I had already stolen Zul from the room where it was kept. I hid it in the ground at the edge of the forest so that no one is about to locate it.
As soon as we reached the edge of the forest. I dug up Zul as fast as I could and handed it to them.
You must go now and make sure you don't get caught again.
"They nodded gratitude filled their eyes.
I could see the exhaustion etched on the men's faces,
As they run deeper into the forest, I couldn't help but feel a sense of pride and satisfaction
I don't want to imagine how disappointed my father would be but I strongly believe I have done the right thing.
