Thinking about it, Deanna decided to contact Lionel when she returned to her room to inquire about the situation at the hospital.
After chatting with the family for a bit, Deanna urged her grandmother, Logan, and Samantha to rest. It was already late, and the elderly needed proper rest to avoid health issues.
Back in the room, Deanna asked Lance to freshen up first while she made a phone call. She walked towards the window with her phone in hand. Lance noticed but didn't disturb her and went to the bathroom.
However, no one answered when Deanna called Lionel. She tried several times with the same result, growing increasingly uneasy. What if something had happened to Lionel? The more she thought about it, the more likely it seemed.
She decided she had to go to the hospital to check on the situation. Almost immediately after making this decision, Deanna put away her phone, grabbed her coat and handbag from the rack, and prepared to leave.
Passing by the bathroom, she stopped and said, "Lance, something seems wrong with Mr. Grant. I'm worried and need to go to the hospital."
She was about to leave when Lance, wrapped in a towel from the waist down, rushed out and grabbed her. "Wait for me. It's too late for you to go alone. I'll come with you!"
Leaving those words behind, Lance turned to find clean clothes. While he was changing, his phone on the bedside table rang. In a hurry to dress, Lance asked Deanna to answer it for him.
Deanna nodded, picked up the phone, and saw it was Xavier calling. She put the phone to her ear but didn't have time to speak before Xavier's anxious voice came through.
"Mr. Mercer, there's a situation at the hospital. The deceased's family tried to cremate the body secretly. Luckily, our people discovered it in time, but the family is being difficult and insists on cremating the body."
"Cremating the body this late? Something's wrong with this family!" Deanna immediately sensed something was off and spoke in a cold tone.
Xavier realized it wasn't Mr. Mercer answering and was surprised. "Missus?"
"It's me, Mr. Nelson. Keep an eye on that family. Lance and I will be there soon," Deanna instructed sternly.
Xavier complied, "Don't worry, Missus. I've already arranged for someone to watch them."
Hearing this, Deanna felt slightly relieved. She then changed the topic, "By the way, I need to ask you something."
"What is it?" Xavier asked.
"I want to know if you've seen Lionel at the hospital. He went there this afternoon to investigate but hasn't contacted me since," Deanna explained.
Xavier apologized, "I'm sorry, Missus. I haven't been to the hospital myself, so I don't know about Mr. Grant's situation. But I can contact our people there and see if they've noticed anything."
"Thank you," Deanna accepted.
After hanging up, her unease grew stronger for some reason. Lance finished dressing and saw Deanna's serious expression. Concerned, he asked, "Who called? What's wrong?"
"It was Xavier. He said the deceased's family tried to sneak out the body for cremation but were stopped in time. Now they're causing trouble at the hospital," Deanna explained.
Lance frowned immediately upon hearing this. "Sneaking out a body for cremation? There's something wrong with that family."
"Exactly. I think we should start with them; we might find a breakthrough," Deanna agreed and shared her thoughts.
The two then hurried to the hospital that night. On the way, Lance received another call from Xavier.
"Mr. Mercer, please inform Missus that Mr. Grant did go to the hospital this afternoon but was driven away by the family and left afterward."
"I understand," Lance replied and relayed Xavier's report.
Deanna's expression grew even more serious after hearing this. "No, if Mr. Grant left the hospital, he would have contacted me. Something must have happened."
"If Lionel is in trouble, it's likely because he discovered something related to the deceased's family," Lance analyzed gravely.
His words heightened Deanna's worry. If Lionel had discovered something, his life might be in danger.
"Lance, please drive faster. I suspect Mr. Grant might have been kidnapped by the family."
