After hearing Deanna's words, Samantha waved her hand and smiled gently, "No need to thank me, we are family. If you really want to thank me, just focus on getting better. We are very worried about you."
"Yes, I will listen to the doctors and actively undergo treatment."
Deanna nodded obediently at Samantha.
The family chatted until Deanna felt a bit sleepy, and Samantha took the two little ones and left.
After they left, Lance returned to the ward.
He saw Deanna still awake, playing on her phone in bed. Raising an eyebrow, he walked over, "I've heard what you told Mom. You should take a break instead of playing."
"I'm just checking the news online."
Despite her words, Deanna put her phone under the pillow.
When she looked up and saw the dark circles under Lance's eyes, she felt a pang of heartache. She moved aside and patted the empty space next to her on the bed, inviting him, "Do you want to come up and sleep with me for a while?"
Lance didn't refuse. He took off his jacket and lay down on the bed, holding Deanna in his arms.
Deanna leaned against his chest, not feeling sleepy for the moment, and asked, "How did you catch Eula?"
"After she attacked your grandmother, I had people search the entire city. She was alone and had to do everything herself. Even though she had some exceptional abilities, she inevitably made mistakes. Based on those clues, it was easy to catch her."
Lance softly recounted the process of capturing Eula.
Deanna listened without much expression on her face and continued, "After you caught her, did you interrogate her? Did she say why she attacked my grandmother?"
Lance fell silent at this question.
He remembered that after capturing Eula, he did interrogate her and asked why she did it.
He recalled Eula's response.
"My people were captured by you. Deanna has your protection and the Martinez family's guards around her. I couldn't get to her alone, so I had to target someone else."
In the dim space, Eula had stared at Lance with a crazed look and said, "Later, I found out that besides you and the two little ones, Deanna cared most about her grandmother. At that time, Deanna was also being targeted by Abla and got captured. All of your attention was diverted. I knew that was my chance to strike. Sure enough, I succeeded. But unfortunately, I was alone and couldn't cover my tracks completely. But it doesn't matter. Even if you captured me and want to kill me, I've achieved my goal."
"Tell Deanna that her grandmother died for her. I want her to live in guilt for the rest of her life!"
Recalling Eula's madness at that time, Lance didn't want to tell Deanna these words.
He feared that Deanna would become obsessed with it.
However, his silence didn't mean Deanna couldn't guess.
Deanna looked at the silent man and understood that Lance had not only interrogated Eula but also heard unpleasant things from her, which was why he wouldn't answer her question.
"You're not speaking because she didn't say anything good. Let me guess; did she say that since my grandmother was the most important person to me, killing her would make me feel guilty for the rest of my life?"
Deanna spoke as she looked up into Lance's eyes.
Their gazes met.
Lance showed a helpless expression, "You guessed right."
"Hearing it from you is different."
After speaking, Deanna narrowed her eyes, her face turning colder. "But from your lack of denial, I can tell I guessed right."
Noticing her change in expression, Lance gently patted her back and reminded her, "Don't forget what the doctor said about avoiding emotional fluctuations."
Deanna took a deep breath and suppressed the hatred surging in her heart but still felt unwilling. "This afternoon, go see Eula for me and take the potion from the pharmacy table with you. Give it to Eula."
Lance frowned slightly at this but didn't refuse. Instead, he asked, "What is that potion?"
"That potion is similar to the toxin Eula injected into my grandmother. But it won't kill Eula immediately; it will make her feel pain every moment of every day. I said before that I would make her experience a hundredfold of what my grandmother suffered."
By the end of her words, Deanna's eyes were filled with hatred.
Then she seemed to think of something and looked up at Lance, instructing him, "After giving Eula the potion, have someone watch her closely. Don't let her commit suicide. I want her to live in pain for the rest of her life to atone for my grandmother!"
Lance met her gaze and finally nodded in agreement.
"Alright, I'll help you. But you have to promise me that after this is over, you won't dwell on hatred anymore. Focus on getting better and taking care of yourself. I don't want you to live in hatred; your grandmother wouldn't want to see you like this either."
