Chapter 1188: The Easiest Person to Manipulate

For the next two days, Deanna recuperated in the hospital. During this time, Gunner came by for a treatment session. However, Deanna still did not recover her memory. After all, conservative treatment meant that the blood clots wouldn't clear up quickly.

While Deanna's life remained peaceful, Eula's was anything but. Due to the ample evidence against her and Lance's pressure, even as a foreign investor, she was rejected by the authorities and faced deportation. Yes, deportation, with a five-year ban from entering Chiaz.

As the helicopter ascended higher and higher, Eula looked out at the shrinking city below with a grim expression. Avery's respectful voice reached her ears, "Master, the two police officers have been taken care of."

Hearing this, Eula shifted her gaze to Avery, her eyes filled with unwillingness. "Contact the other family members and tell them to gather for a family meeting upon my return. I will be selecting a new head of the family."

"Master?" Avery was stunned and looked over in shock.

Eula responded coldly, "You should know Lance's character. Without evidence before, he was already suppressing us. Now that the evidence is conclusive, he won't let me off easily."

Avery couldn't argue with that. Indeed, Lance was known for his clear-cut sense of justice. Now that Eula had harmed his beloved and the evidence was irrefutable, he would never let her go easily.

Unaware of Avery's thoughts, Eula continued, "The family is my foundation. If I remain the head, Lance will target the family. But if I separate from them and let his anger focus on me alone, I might still have a chance to fight back!"

"But aren't you worried that the new head won't follow your orders?" Avery had grasped Eula's plan. She intended to step down publicly but control things from behind the scenes.

Eula smirked coldly, "The world is never short of obedient people."

Avery understood immediately.

Two days later, global financial news reported a major event. The Maturin family of Espuenia had changed its leadership. Former head Eula Maturin was deemed unfit to manage the family due to poor management, causing billions in losses and scandals.

This news didn't affect ordinary people or unrelated families much. They were merely curious about what Eula had done. But Deanna and Lance paid close attention to it. Almost immediately, they understood Eula's intentions.

"She's quite shrewd. If she had used this cunning to develop her family, the Maturin family would be more than just Espuenia's top family," Deanna remarked with a snort.

Lance chuckled and pulled her into his arms. "Shrewd or not, she still fell into your trap."

"True." Deanna accepted the compliment with pride. Then she shifted the topic, "But now that Eula is no longer the head of the Maturin family, if you want to target her, you can only go after her personally, right? You can't pressure her through the family anymore?"

"That's how it appears on the surface. But do you really think she'll let go of the family?" Lance responded with a question.

Deanna raised an eyebrow and thought about her interactions with Eula. "Probably not."

"So this new head is likely a puppet she chose," Lance continued.

He then smirked mockingly and said slowly, "Throughout history, those in power never willingly become puppets. Eula made a bad move; perhaps someone else will take care of her for us."

Deanna agreed but added, "So if someone else deals with Eula, you won't take action?"

She looked at him with a sharp gaze. Meeting her eyes, Lance affectionately tapped her nose and defended himself, "Of course not. I won't let her off!"

"That's more like it!" Deanna said with satisfaction.

She could never forgive Eula for hypnotizing her, making her almost kill Lance, and even plotting against her child.

At that moment, Eula sat face-to-face with her chosen puppet head in the study. The new head was a middle-aged man in his fifties named Max Maturin. Eula chose him because he loved his family and was the most humble member of the clan-in short, the easiest person to manipulate!
