It was Wednesday morning. Yesterday was a blur I got out of hospital, showered, went to Target for more biscuits and tea if that is all I can keep down then that is what I’ll eat. I also bought myself a cherry cola for some reason when I saw it it was like my mouth was salivating, I don’t know if it was the cherries or the condensation of the water on the bottle, either way I bought it and drank it on my why home. It was delicious and definitely my favorite drink from now on and it was diet so there is that. I made myself tea a few times between naps and snacked on the biscuits.
Today is my first day of work and I’m feeling much much better in fact I couldn’t wait to get to work and see other people. I like being surrounded by people that is why I can’t stay at home for to long I will fall into that trap again and I won’t eat or drink anything. I have to be vigilant with myself from now on. I got dressed way to early but decided to take one of my books with and sit in the corner and study before my shift. I still have to pay for next semester but I can finish this one on a high until I can make a plan to do my last semester. When I was sure I had everything, I dropped a bottle of water and some Reese in my bag, lock my door and got in my Audi.
I knew I didn’t want this car but it was actually a nice car. I put the music on and sang all the way to work. I didn’t know where to stop so I stop at the valet and asked him “Where does the employees stop?” “Are you new?” “Yes, starting my first shift in the bar tonight.” “Oh, it’s fine I can park your car.” “No tell me where we park.” “It would be easier to show you.” He got another valet to take over his place and got in the passenger seat. “Hi I’m Sean.” “Hi Jojo.” I said as we shook hands. “Okay make a left here.” He directed me to where the staff parked it was almost a mile away from the Hotel. “See why you had to show me I wouldn’t have gotten it by myself.” “What’s your shift?” He asked. “I start at 7 pm but I came earlier to study.” “Okay maybe you should ask Jason he will be working with you in the bar tonight to walk you back to your car. It’s scary at night.” He said as we walked back to the Hotel. “I’m sure I’ll be fine.” “Take my advice Jojo ask someone to walk with you back to your car.” “Okay okay I’ll ask this Jason guy if he doesn’t mind.” “His normally friendly.” “Normally?” I asked. “His got his moods. Like all of us.” “Let’s hope my first day doesn’t start with a moody co-worker.” “Let’s hope.” He said as he took back his post. “Thanks Sean, I really appreciate it.” “Only a pleasure if I was here tonight, I would have walked you but I’m on the day shift.” I looked at my watch. “I am really early.” “Yes, you are.” He said winking at me.
I walked to the bar area where there were another man and women duo working the bar. I took a seat in a corner table and watched them for a while. When it got quiet the woman came walking up to me. “Can I get you something to drink?” “No, I’m good. I’m the new night bar maid Jojo.” “Oh, hi I’m Asley and that hot guy behind the counter is my boyfriend Davi.” “Oh, that’s nice.” “It is right John is so considerate but girl I have to warn you your co-pilot Jason is a solid pain in the ass.” “Who’s a pain in the ass?” Davi asked standing next to Ashley. “Jason” “Oh God yes.” “This is Jojo who’s going to work with Jason.” “Hi Jojo you are early.” “Thought I’d study a bit and make up for Monday and Tuesday.” “What happened?” “I ended up in hospital and missed my first shift.” “Oh, fuck no wonder Jason was walking with his lip on the ground the past 2 days.” “Oh, shit I’m sorry.” “Don’t worry, do you want to study or help us behind the bar then you know the in’s and out’s before he comes in and you don’t have to worry about his mood.” “Oh, that would be awesome.” “Okay bring your stuff and I’ll show you where to put it.” She took me to the locker room where she gave me a locker, I took my water out when she stopped me. “No other drinks allowed at the bar sweetie.” Shit how am I going to stay hydrated if I don’t have my water bottle. I put it back in my bag, open a Reese and pop it in my mouth, that would keep me going until my shift starts.
Ashley wasn’t joking she threw me into the deep end properly. Between her and Davi I knew most of the drinks that the people will ask for I even knew where to find everything. When 6 pm came around John walked into the bar. “Jojo what are you doing here?” “I came early to study but instead Ashley and Davi was so nice as to show me how everything works and where I can find everything.” “Thank you Ashly Davi, but I’m going to steal her before her shift starts.” Ahsley and Davi looked at me funny but said. “Okay” I walked to Ashley and gave her a hug “Thanks you won’t know how much I appreciated your help.” I even hugged Davi both of them was caught off guard by my hug and probable by John’s statement.
John walked me to his office, “Since when have you been here?” “Three Ish.” “Have you eaten?” “I had a Reese before Ashley showed me what was going on behind the bar.” “Jojo, you need to eat and stay hydrated.” “Oh, that’s what I wanted to ask you my water bottle Ashley said I can’t have it behind the bar.” “I’ll make an exception for you.” “No, you can’t.” “Oh yes, I can and I will, now what are you going to eat? You want a chicken salad or do you want steak and salad or potato?” “Steak and salad but I’ll pay for it.” “NO, it’s your employee meal.” I didn’t say anything because I knew if I ask anyone else if they get employee meals out of a 5-star kitchen they would say no. All I said was “Thank you.” I know how to chose my battles and this one I was not going to win.
