Chapter 87 ~When the Past Strikes Back~
(Xander's POV)
I watched Fiona sleeping peacefully beside me. Her hair was tousled over my bed, spreading crimson across my sheets.
Lately her brows had been creased more often than not, but in her sleep, she looked tranquil. And oh, so beautiful.
I wanted her to look exactly like this forever…
The sun peeked through the blinds, giving her a golden hue. She shifted in her sleep.
Unable to help myself, I bent and planted wet, loud kisses over her cheeks, her forehead and finally her lips.
She moaned in her sleep and I seized this opportunity to bury my tongue in her mouth.
She tasted like everything heavenly.
I felt myself growing hard instantly.
I moved down to her neck and licked and sucked on it. I was determined to leave a hickey.
“You horndog.” I heard her croaky morning voice. She groaned loudly and I chuckled.
“I can't even get to sleep.” Her eyes finally fluttered open, revealing green gems.
I was enthralled. “Morning Princess.”
She smiled sweetly. “Good morning...” Her eyes widened when she saw the protrusion in my pants. “...I’m pretty sure you’re having enough of that already.”
I might need a cold shower later.
“You’re my mate.” I said.
“I'm pregnant.”
“Then we'll make twins.” I smirked.
“Yeah… I'm not sure that's how that works.”
A thought I’d been playing with crossed my mind. “What's your favorite color?”
“Why?” She eyed me curiously. I shrugged.
“Weird question, but red.” She smiled. “Red is my favorite color.”
“Okay, bye.” Abruptly, I jumped off the bed.
She sat up, confused. “Where are you going?”
“Err… cold shower.”
I inwardly chuckled when she groaned loudly and buried her head in the duvet.
I took a quick shower and dressed up to head to Calvin's quarters.
He was dressed for work already, on a weekend.
“Alpha Xander.” He was struggling with his tie.
“Yeah… that won't be necessary.” I pointed to the tie. “You're coming with me to the car dealership.”
Calvin pulled out the tie with an exasperated sigh. “You don't need another car!”
“It's not for me. It's actually for Fiona.” I grinned.
“That's great! Is her birthday coming up?”
“N… actually I don't know.” Was I a terrible mate? I didn't even know when Fiona's birthday was.
I made a mental note to ask her later.
“No. It's supposed to be a push gift, but I'll give it early. On prom night.”
Calvin's mouth fell open instantly. “The Luna is pregnant.”
I nodded. “ Why do you look like that?”
“I had no idea!” Calvin swore. “Shit! I mean, I'm happy but… I'm surprised Yara didn't tell me.”
“I wouldn't have either, except that I need your opinion on choosing a car for her.” I said dryly. “It was supposed to be a secret.”
He gave me a handshake. “That's nice. But, can she drive?”
“She'll learn.” I shrugged. She's a fast learner.
By now Calvin was in his closet. I suppose he went to look for a more casual outfit for the day.
“So where are you going to keep the car until the surprise day?”
Shit! Good question.
“Figure it out.”
Calvin dressed up and we walked towards the garage.
Suddenly he stopped. “You know, I was wondering what has been making you act off lately.”
I froze in my tracks.
“Glad to know it was that Luna Fiona is pregnant.” He continued. “I wasn't sure what to expect.”
I clenched my fist into a tight ball.
“Let's go.” I simply said and we entered the car.
As I turned on the ignition, my phone began ringing. I checked the caller ID and saw ‘Dakota’.
I cut the call.
It rang again as I was driving, but this time, Calvin saw it.
He simply pursed his lips.
It rang a couple more times through the drive and it was becoming awkward so I had to pick up.
“What?” My voice boomed.
“Xander, don't speak to me like that.” Dakota's voice sounded hurt.
“Don't call this line again.” I said with a note of finality and cut the call.
I switched off my phone and tossed it in the backseat.
I could see that Calvin clearly had a lot of questions to ask, but also didn't want to prod.
Finally, we pulled up to the luxury dealership. The glass doors slid open as Calvin and I walked in.
The car dealer, Mr. Timberlake walked up to us and exchanged pleasantries.
“You must be Mr. Grayson.” he turned to me. “So what kind of car are you looking for?”
“It's actually a gift for my girlfriend.” I began. “Her favorite color is red, although she doesn't really favor any particular car brand as far as I know.”
He nodded smoothly. “Say no more. Let's go into the showroom.”
After some hours of going through a range of cars, we’d narrowed it down to a Porsche 911 Carrera and a Mercedes‑Benz SL-Class all in red.
“Decisions, decisions." Calvin teased. “What do you think she would like?”
At this point even the dark cherry Aston Martin DB11 was looking like an option.
With dread, I realized that I had no fucking idea what Fiona would like.
I turned to face Mr Timberlake helplessly.
He gave a short chuckle. “I think this is the point we seek a female opinion.”
“Yes, please.” I nodded.
“Just a minute,” Mr Timberlake turned to leave. “Let me see if I can find a chivalrous female client to help.”
After he left, I turned to Calvin. “How do you think she'll feel about the car?”
“She'll love it. Whichever one you choose.”
Just as we were talking, we heard the dealer and the sharp clicking of heels.
“I've got a lady.” Mr Timberlake called out.
You can imagine my shock when I turned to see it was Nova.
“Always happy to help.” She wore a coy smile. “It's okay, I can take it from here.”
“Thanks Miss Varon, I'll be with another client.” He turned to me. “I'll be back shortly.”
“Well… well… well.” Nova smirked. “Who do we have here?”
“What are you doing here?”
“To service my car. You can imagine my astonishment when Mr. Car Dealer asked for help. Some Mr Grayson wants to get a car for his girlfriend.” She chuckled.
I tried to signal her to keep quiet but she ignored me.
“Dakota said you're ghosting her.” She accused.
“I'm not.”
“You definitely shouldn't do that, given that-”
I cut her short. “Stop it!”
She smirked. “Oh, you don't want your beta to know?”
“Know what?” Calvin looked alarmed.
“Oh… this is going to be epic. Your perfect little relationship with your perfect little mate goes down the drain.”
“What's happening?” Calvin asked, confused.
“Tell him.” Nova said.
“Stay out of this.” I yelled at Nova.
“Tell him… or I will.” She smirked.
“You wouldn't dare.”
There was a moment of awkward silence.
“You're right.” She chuckled. “I'll just let everything unfold on its own.”
“Xander, you have only seven days to tell your mate and the entire Silvereign pack or I will.” She glared at me. “This is not a threat. It's a warning.”
