Chapter 23 ~Predators of the night~

Chapter 23 ~Predators of the night~
Xander's POV

I was doing 90 in a 60 mph zone, my mind going haywire. I thought about a lot of things, my family, the pack's wellbeing, but most importantly, Fiona.

I almost knocked someone off the road in my haste, but I didn't turn back to apologize. I just kept driving.

How the fuck did rogue wolves get access to Silvereign pack with all the layers of security?

What if Calvin hadn't been held back at the pack today? What would have happened? Would the rogues have killed anyone?

I pulled up to the packhouse. “Where're they?” I boomed at the first person I saw. An omega.

She shrunk back in fear. “I don't know, Alpha.”

“Then, move!” I yelled, tensed in the moment.

I mindlinked my beta. Where are you lot, Calvin?

Pack's dungeon.

I turned to drive to the dungeon, which was a few meters from the pack house.

As I got there, a few people greeted me. “Welcome, Alpha.”

I ignored and moved straight to the torture room. Calvin was there with some council members, and apparently my father had gotten here before me.

I saw the rogues, unclad, as they had probably only recently shifted from their wolf form. There were five of them.

"One got away, but we managed to capture these five."

I turned to Calvin. “How did this happen? Matter of fact, where's Loki? Isn't he the Gamma?”

Calvin pointed to the rogues. “The entrance security, Bernard, raised an alarm that he'd been attacked, but didn't know how they got past the warriors. He almost didn't make it. He's in the pack hospital.”

My father grunted disapprovingly. “If Loki was there to watch everything as the Gamma; this wouldn't have happened.”

“Now is not the time for blame games. How did these rogues get here and what do they want are the questions you should ask?” Elder Julius told his brother.

I turned to Calvin, ignoring their banter. “Then what happened next?”

“I hurried to gather the warriors. Before we found them, they'd killed 2 omegas and were advancing to your villa.”

“My villa?” I repeated. What did I have to do with them?

Calvin continued. “Yes. We were able to confine them. That was when I mindlinked you and the council. Since then we've tortured them, but they didn't confess their mission. They said they wanted to see the Alpha.”

I walked up to them. “So, I'm here. What's your mission?”

One rogue stared at me through a face beaten to pulp. “Alpha.. you're here.”

He looked at the others, and they cackled, wincing slightly from the open wounds.

The council members and my father were looking curious by now.

“It's a full moon tonight, Alpha.” One rogue spat out.

I knew it was a full moon tonight. What did that have to do with anything?

“The Lycan’s daughter. We're here for the Lycan's daughter.” One rogue said through cackles.

Who the fuck is the Lycan's daughter?

“Shut up, Rowan!” Another rogue silenced him.

“Continue, Rowan.” I commanded.

Rowan shook his head. “No.”

My molten gold eyes blazed. “Speak.”

The rogues winced in pain, but still resisted the Alpha command.

I should know. Rogues are so stubborn, you'd get nothing out of them.

I turned to Calvin. “Get me the silver stakes.”

Silver. The only thing that could harm a werewolf, be it rogue or pure breed. Only, it was more fatal to rogues.

Calvin handed me the hot silver stake. I'd find out whatever all this was by myself.

I took the blade and pierced them in the chest one after the other. Their dying screams echoed through the dungeon.

When I was sure they were dead, I turned to Calvin. “Clean this up.”

The full moon rose in the skies. All members of the Silvereign packhouse were outside in the clearing ready for the hunt.

The warriors stood in the front; the elders made a circle. I saw omegas preparing the area for the full moon hunt.

And I was in the middle, the alpha of the pack.

“Silence!” I commanded. I could feel the full moon energy surge through my veins. “Tonight, we hunt. Not for blood, but for unity.”

Shouts of agreement went through the pack. My mind drafted to the time I saw Fiona in these woods. That day she interrupted my hunt.

But she still wasn't speaking to me.

“You all know the territories to avoid and the roles for each rank. Remember, stick together, and as you hunt, thank the moon goddess for this opportunity to bond together in unity.”

I howled to signal the beginning of the hunt as I shifted into my wolf form. My bones snapped painfully, my skin tearing to reveal silver fur. Heat surged through my body.

Theon came alive.

I waited until all the werewolves shifted, the she-wolves and pups.

And we all broke into a wild run. The sound of paws pounding the earth broke through the forest.

It was wild; it was exhilarating, chaotic and beautiful.

Theon spotted a deer and signalled to the other wolves. They circled round, surrounding the prey.

The deer tried to escape through the trees- in a wild, soil-slashing run.

Two wolves chased from the right, blocking off its escape, and Theon from the left.

And then lunged, jaw locking onto the deer's throat, pinning it in place. The deer landed with a thud on the ground.

The pack howled in triumph.

And then we began feasting on the hunt, the male wolves, followed by the she-wolves and finally the pups.

The she-wolves…

Theon whimpered, looking around for Fiona… sniffing the air to see if she was part of the hunt.

But nothing… no scent.

And then I realised with dismay that in the thrill of the hunt, I'd forgotten my mate— somewhere in between these thick woods.
