Chapter 112: news
Eliza's POV
The following day, I woke up to the streaming rays of sunlight through my open window. Blinking a few times as I adjusted to waking up, I suddenly remembered everything that had happened the night before. I felt a warm tingle wash over me as I sat up and stretched my body out. My quadruplet mates and I had finally become one.
But they weren't in my bedroom. I frowned as I exited the bed and padded to the open window. Closing it, I noticed Theron and Lara whispering outside. A knock on the door caused me to jump in surprise.
"Who is it?" I called out, and the door opened to reveal my brother.
"Good morning, sister. How are you?" He bounded in but stopped when he saw the marks on my neck. A smile suddenly formed on his face.
"Good morning, Alex. Where are the quadruplets? They haven't come to greet me yet." I scowled, wondering where they had gotten to. My brother looked confused.
"You know they went back to Creek. Rylan said he told you they had to return for something important. Eliza, you must understand they have Alpha duties, too." Alex raised an eyebrow, noticing my mood change. I crossed my arms over my chest and cocked my head to the side.
"Yes, I remember him saying something like that now, but why didn't they tell me they were leaving?" I knew I was a bit of a brat, but I couldn't help feeling miffed that they hadn't even asked me to go with them, nor had they bothered to say goodbye.
"Eliza," my brother gave me a look that said not to start. "How about a run in the woods, just me and you? Father is busy with his studies, so I wouldn't bother to disturb him. Let's get some fresh air. I'm sure you could do with it." He chuckled and then shook his head in amusement. I shrugged and then slowly nodded. ""Fine. But I need to shower and change first. Give me some time." I grabbed some clothes and a towel before heading to the en-suite.
"Sure thing, I will be downstairs. Don't be long." Alex called after me as I closed the door behind me and turned on the shower.
My thoughts turned back to my mates and how good they had made me feel last night. I never thought that they would ever mean so much to me. I hated to be away from them now. Stripping off, I stepped into the shower; the warm droplets cascaded over me.
I lathered my hair, letting the scent of the shampoo fill my senses. A wave of nostalgia washed over me, reminding me they were more than just my mates; they were my home. Memories of our playful banter and whispered secrets echoed in my mind, but negative thoughts still crept in.
Why didn't they say goodbye? I wanted to clarify how much I wanted to be involved in their lives. I needed to continue with Esmeralda and my abilities, but that would have to wait for now. I couldn't concentrate solely on that with my mates disappearing on me like that.
As I rinsed the suds from my hair, thoughts of Rylan's protective nature made my heart flutter. Each brought something unique to our bond, and I felt an undeniable pull toward them. The emptiness of their absence settled in my chest as I turned off the shower and reached for a towel.
I quickly dried off and dressed in a simple pair of shorts and a soft tank top. The clothes didn't feel quite right; I could have sworn I was yearning for their familiar scents instead. Looking in the mirror, I noticed the marks on my neck—the subtle reminders of last night's passion and the promises exchanged. A small smile crept onto my lips as I traced my fingers over them.
With one last glance in the mirror, I stepped out of the bathroom and made my way downstairs. My heart was a mixture of excitement and a lingering frustration over my mate's sudden departure. I was grateful for my brother to keep me distracted. Alex was at the bottom of the stairs, stretching and preparing for our run.
"We need to go back to Creek. It's under attack." Theron rushed to Alex, and I heard him gasp. "Your father has already sent guards and warriors along to help."
"What are you talking about?" I demanded to know. Theron turned in disbelief. Then he noticed me standing there listening in. The colour drained from my face.
My mates were in danger. Why the heck couldn't I feel them in my mind? Had he switched off from me because of his? They didn'tdidn't want me to worry.
"Oh, Princess Eliza, I'm so very sorry. I didn't know you were there." Theron tried to explain himself, but I was already running toward the car.
I was going back to Creek, and that was that. Nobody was going to stop me from getting to my mates.
