CHAPTER 40

Ava's POV

The next morning, I woke up feeling unusual. I wasn't feeling as much strength as I do feel before, especially because we have a lot of exciting classes going on.

I felt so much pain at first and could barely sit up. I bit my lower lip and was feeling so sad because time wasn't on my side. Soon, others will wake up and head over to the bathroom. In this state, I can't decide not to bathe, especially as my pad felt full.

If I waited until everyone had their bath, I would be very late for class, and even Jace, whom I go to the class with, would be suspicious about my unusual behaviour.

I placed my hand on my stomach and pressed it against it.

“Come on, you can do it, Ava.” I encouraged myself and tried to stand.

Thankfully, I was able to bring myself to stand, and I picked up all the things that I needed and slowly walked out of the room.

While I was walking through the hallway, everywhere was silent, and the only sound I could hear was my breath. On getting to the bathroom, I went to that same secluded part and began to clean myself before I washed up.

As soon as I was done with bathing and had put on my uniform and every necessary thing, I left the bathroom and walked to my dorm. Then I sat on the bed, waiting for Jace to wake.

Not long after, the triplets woke and got down from their bed. Jace walked up to me with a smile and hit my shoulder gently.

“Always the first to wake,” he uttered and chuckled.

My heart hardened at that moment, and my breath seized due to the level of anger that rose in my chest, but I managed to keep it under control and instead ignored him.

But then, Joey also walked up to me.

“Strange as you're quiet. Or did the tailor break your heart last night?” Joey teased me, and that was it.

My anger rose to a level in which I couldn't control it anymore, and I burst out.

“Can you just let me be! You've woken up. Shouldn't the next thing for you be to have your bath or something?” I lashed out at him uncontrollably.

“Hey, Ava. What's wrong? Why are you being so cranky?” Jay uttered, looking a little bit offended.

“Ugh!” I let out a tired sigh, rose to my feet, picked up my bag, and dashed out of the room.

There was no reason to wait for Jace. I'm just not feeling so good, so it's best I stay alone.

I held on to my bag as I headed to the school building, also hoping that I wouldn't come across Jack. Although, while I may not lash out at Jack, trying to suppress my crankiness and all would only make me uncomfortable. Being alone would help me to gradually feel better.

On getting to the class, I sat at a different bench and laid my head on the table to get some time to myself. I wouldn't want to raise my head, and then Jace would see me and walk up to me only to ask me questions that aren't necessary right now.

About what seemed like fifteen minutes passed, and the class had not quieted down, which only meant the professor had not arrived. We were having the sparring class today, so it was Professor Darwin who was going to teach us today.

“Ava?” I heard my name, and I raised my head only to see it was Jace.

I sighed and looked away with a frown.

“What is it?” I asked coldly.

“If there is anything wrong with you, you should know you can share it with us. We'll understand.”

Tch! Understand, my foot.

The only thing that was possibly having an effect on my mood was my menstruation. There was no way they would understand if I told them I'm a female and currently going through the hassle of that time of the month.

“Just forget it.” I said to him and laid my head back on the table.

“Come on, Ava. Speak to me. You didn't even wait for me before you left for class. Definitely, there's something eating you on the inside.”

I raised my head back up and connected the heel of my palm on my forehead.

“Look, Jace. I'm okay. There is nothing wrong with me.”

As I said that, the professor walked in with his usual record book in his hand.

“Good morning, everyone. I'm sorry I'm a bit late. Had some things to take care of. Now, let's all make our way down to the field.” He urged us, and I gave Jace one last look and rose to my feet.

I picked up my bag and followed the crowd with Jace tagging alongside with me. I didn't know why he wouldn't leave, but if he was bent on sticking with me, then he better not bombard me with questions I don't really want to hear.

On getting to the field, we all spread out as usual, and the professor placed us in groups of twos for the sparring.

Jace was my partner, but there was no big deal in that. I watched as others sparred and Professor Darwin scored them, but while watching, my stomach began to hurt me again.

This time, it was an excruciating pain that lasted for a while. Tears filled my eyes up, but I tried my best not to make them fall as I squeezed my stomach hard.

Please stop hurting me. It's almost I's and Jace's turn.

“Now, Jace and Ava should come up.” Professor Darwin called us, and we walked to the front.

I let out a sigh and managed to do my best.

Jace and I began to spar, and while some moments my stomach pain freed me, other times, it came back with full force.

“Ava! You can do better than this. Why are you being so  sluggish?” The professor yelled at me.

I sniffled and tried to give Jace a kick, but he dodged it instead, and I felt a slight pain as my leg hit nothing, which only caused too much stretch for it.

While I was trying to kick him again, I missed him, and then I tried to throw a punch and missed him, but this time, I lost my step and fell on him, which caused our lips to connect.

My eyes widened in shock.

Did we just have a kiss!
