Chapter 19 19
Ash's pov
"Nothing is the matter, Godric... You were saying?" She acts so natural as she takes the glass off the tray before facing the others that the rest barely have any suspicion towards me as I move into the next guest.
Alpha Riven waves me off without paying me a glance, and to my relief, Layla reaches Alpha Godric with her tray before I back away.
"And just because she's Polyandrous doesn't make the situation any better. We know our uncle, he would rather succumb to us than have to share his precious mate."
I almost lost my stance, but luckily I reached the serving table in time, setting the tray down before clutching the edge in time, fists tightening, knuckles twitching
That makes sense.
She was Polyandrous. It makes perfect sense why she had felt the mate bond with the twins ... And on the day she was to be mated to them, I had thought her leaving with the Lycan had been a show, a ploy by her to be able to escape the event.
Does she actually also feel the bond with the Lycan?
Was she even ever aware she was Polyandrous?
A shaky hand takes the glass off the tray, getting set to refill the tray this time with the appetizers before the main meal of the day is served after the meeting ends
What if the reason she so strongly believes that m and her were meant to be was because she also felt the same thing for me too.
It wasn't noted the limits of a Polyandrous. Some had more than three. Twins didn't count since they were considered one flesh and would always have to share a mate.
Lena was Polyandrous. It clearly meant one thing other than the fact that she was mated to the twins and their Uncle, the Lycan...
"She's clearly going to be the target of the shifters. We could use her as bait." Reuben chipped in.
Eliot snorted. "Let's first take her away from the Lycan and stop being a bit faster than our shadows?"
Reuben cast a cold side glance towards him and I felt my tongue burn from the bloodlust as I leaned in in time to set down their respective plates of food. Layla tactfully serves Godric before letting the others serve the rest.
I on the other hand have two people I have to avoid this evening already. Alpha Godric and now Alpha Genevieve.
Ever since what had happened she hasn't stopped giving me a straightforward pointed stare from across the table at all times.
I worry that Godric would notice. What was her deal with me exactly?
Our gazes briefly cross before Ashley almost shoves into me.
"Stop gwaking at the Alpha and mind your work here."
"You think sending him threats of a possible gang up against him, but you forget he's a Lycan..." Eliot states, arms folded as he disregarded everyone's opinion to instill a sense of helplessness to the Lycan.
It's already been made clear from his absence that they've been excluded from the head of Alphas. The news will spread and if they truly do decide to fight him and with no one by his side, he'd have to surrender. He can't be killed, but his back could be against the wall leaving him with no choice.
"Doesn't matter where he thinks his strength lies. He has no one, he's had everyone turn against him from the one. With news of him shunned out of the head of Alphas, no one will truly want to form an alliance with him. Not even for the war coming up. And where do you think that leaves him?" Kael glares at everyone across the room as he states the obvious facts.
Eliot doesn't budge. Arms still folded, he smirks. "You missed my point. He's not known as a Lycan for just his strength. He's an immortal, probably lived centuries before the elders, before every single one of us in his room. He's probably faced worse situations... You really think this is new to him? Probably the Polyandrous she-wolf, I would admit, but one thing Lycans are known for are their powerful pride and ego."
"What are you saying, Eliot?" Geneive's attention spans from me much to my relief as we go around retrieving trays and empty glasses preparing to serve the main course.
"His ego is that big that he's more dangerous than we think. In all his years, it's obvious that the wolf is not his first mate. He's known quite a couple before her... And we all know he's never really attached to any of them. He sees them as nothing more than- "
"Get to the point" Reuben growls to which Eliot smirks, continuing in a slower progression than before.
"In a case we defeat the impossible and have his back to the wall with no choice but to hand her to us, he'll kill her."
Silence ensues in the room for such a long time, they don't notice the Omegas at the table have frozen in shock as well.
"He wouldn't." Riven snarled, but he doesn't sound convincing to himself much more to us.
My hands shake from rage and so much fear for the first time in my life as I stand there watching the Omegas prepare the servings.
Lyla comes on my side, helping me fill my tray.
"Focus." She hisses without looking at me and I quickly reach down, filling my tray myself and leaving her to do hers on her own. The serving table is more solemn than ever.
The meeting ensues but it's more strained. Eliot's words had certainly hung and settled heavily on everyone's shoulders, because Lucien wasn't just the Lycan- he was the most dangerous being on earth. It would take more than the head of Alphas hanging up with the twins and Alpha Godric just to beat him and his men.
"... The only plausible decision is giving him time. Ina while he might grow agitated or tired of her. As mentioned by Godric, she's weak and dependent. It would repel him in a matter of days." Reuben chimes in.
"If that is so, why hasn't he returned her?" Kael snapped, obviously impatient and agitated.
"Can we refrain from referring to the she-wolf like she's an object. Her name is Lena Thornwell? And she's just a living being like any of us. If we actually look around this situation, we can get her much easily without having to go through the Lycan." Geneive states, finally rising to preside over everyone.
She stood at 6'5, her silver streaked hair cut extremely short to the nape of her neck, ivory skin gleaming off of the torches hung at the side of the room. "We'll have Miss Thornwell reject the Lycan," her eyes are narrowed as she runs it across the room. "Willingly "
"That's never going to happen." Kael states gruffly, arms folded as he leaned back, but it's obvious he hadn't exactly condemned her idea and neither did any other person in the room.
The time came to serve the guests and we spread out all corners of the table.
Genevieve snorts. "It was very obvious that her act that day was a means to escape having to continue with the ceremony. You think she did that because she loves him? People fear the Lycan. They don't love him, and neither can she."
Her words build a sense of hope in me as I crouch down slightly to serve Alpha Reuben. At the first serving he dismisses me with a hand. If it's possible Lena hasn't developed any sense of affection for the Lycan, it meant I still had a chance to fix us and gain back her trust.
"And how exactly would you have us get to the girl?"
"A soiree."
Silence.
"A- Soiree? Alpha Geneive, I appreciate ..." One deadly look from her and Godric's mouth are sealed as he turns petrified from her eyes darkening.
"We build a mutual truce with the Lycan. Have him bring her as his date to try to prove to us that they're better off as a couple without her exploring her other mates. There, that's when they're ensnared in our trap. We corner her and have her know we'd protect her whatever decision she makes. The Lycan is cornered, he won't have a choice when she rejects him. She's Polyandrous and holds the power..."
Riven stands, more from excitement than shock. "In at that moment when she breaks the bond, he's left vulnerable..."
Even Eliot's demeanor falters as the strategy behind her plan hits. His arms unfold as it dawns on him. The gleam in his eyes is spine chilling as he meets everyone's gaze in the room. "Then we can hold him captive forever."
The room turns jubilant as they all sit, chuckling amongst themselves as they plan the soiree. I patiently note the important information I'd need. The date, time of the soiree, their plans of cornering her and how they planned on subduing Lycan Lucien forever.
I on the other hand had plans of mine. Plans that would require thwarting a bit of theirs, but as long as it got me Lena, I didn't care.
