Chapter 185 Going Abroad
Chapter 185 Going Abroad
Nicole was stunned.
She couldn't understand how a leg condition could lead to brain death.
"Doctor, did you make a wrong diagnosis? How is this possible?" Nicole asked, choking back tears.
Just then, Chris rushed over.
After hearing everything, he immediately thought of Joanna.
Chris quickly pulled out his phone to contact Joanna, but the moment the call connected and he heard Joanna's impatient voice, he fell silent.
"What is it? Chris, I've reminded you many times—we're already divorced!"
Chris was quiet for a moment, then quickly spoke before Joanna could hang up impatiently, "Grandpa's leg condition has gotten worse. Can you... treat it? The Cooper family will pay."
Joanna was silent for a long time, seemingly considering whether to treat him or not.
Initially, the risk of David's leg condition worsening wasn't that serious, and she had warned them several times.
But the first time she was rejected, and the second time at the research institute, they denied her treatment plan.
Later, when David came to Grace General Hospital for treatment, Chris and Cynthia even mocked her for not being capable of treating David.
She had kindly warned them, but because nothing had happened yet, they took it as jealousy born from incompetence.
Now, did they believe in her medical skills again?
Joanna let out a cold laugh. "I've already been refused three times. I believe there's no fate between me and this patient. Sorry, Mr. Cooper, I can't take this surgery."
Although as a doctor, she didn't want to give up on any patient.
But getting entangled with the Cooper family again—Joanna felt she'd be driven crazy.
Nicole wanted to grab the phone and try to persuade her, but Chris had already hung up.
He knew Joanna's choice—once she refused, there would be no second chance.
Perhaps... this was just fate.
Chris slowly slid down the wall outside the hospital room, saying in a dejected, hoarse voice, "Use your hospital's resources to contact the best doctors and come up with a treatment plan as soon as possible."
He would accept it even if it meant amputation.
If the condition had truly worsened severely and David became brain dead, he could only accept this tragic outcome.
After hanging up on Chris, Joanna didn't dwell on the matter.
Although she was a doctor with medical ethics, she wouldn't get too entangled with patients' families to avoid potential conflicts.
As for David's subsequent treatment, Joanna didn't concern herself with it anymore. She focused all her energy on Sandra's surgery and her own work.
After the third surgery, Sandra was ready to be discharged for recovery.
Victor offered, "I'd like to take my sister back to the Qin family to recuperate with Father. They just reunited, and I think this would be a good opportunity to strengthen their bond."
However, the Qin family was far away in Valeria, and Victor couldn't ask Joanna to give up her current partner and work to go abroad.
Joanna was also reluctant to be separated from her mother.
But her mother was now an independent person, and Joanna didn't want to cause her any trouble.
She decided to follow Sandra's wishes.
"Mom, what do you think about this?"
Sandra pressed her lips together, saying somewhat hesitantly, "Actually, I don't have any memories from my childhood. Maybe he really is my father. From our time together recently, I can feel that Mr. Idris truly loves his daughter. I actually think we could spend more time together and don't need to make such a hasty decision."
Her concept of parents was actually quite weak.
Because from her earliest memories, she had been by Henry's side, and everyone told her that she would marry Henry in the future.
They would start a family, and with her background, being able to marry Henry was already a rare opportunity.
She had to do better so her husband wouldn't dislike her and kick her out.
After marriage, Sandra also wanted to contact her family, but those people seemed to have no feelings for her and quickly moved away.
Before leaving, they didn't even leave Sandra a phone number.
After that, Sandra's sense of loneliness grew even heavier. She could only do her best to maintain family harmony and have what looked like a peaceful home.
Now, Victor was telling her that she had family.
She could be willful, could live according to her own wishes, and didn't need to be afraid because her family would always have her back.
Sandra craved this feeling.
Victor also expressed his thoughts, "I also hope Father can spend more time with you, sister, but the environment and dietary habits here aren't very convenient for Father's recovery. Of course, if you insist, I'll do my best to recreate Father's recovery environment from abroad and make arrangements for him to stay here."
"It's okay," Sandra said proactively. "I've never been abroad either. Maybe going back home will help me remember my childhood."
She didn't mind where she lived.
She was used to living in Austin City, but if she continued staying here, she feared she might cause more trouble and prevent her daughter from working and living peacefully.
Her daughter had grown up and should focus more on herself.
Sandra had never been the type of mother who liked to tie her children to her side. She was willing to let them fly far away and live in their own way in fields where they excelled.
Joanna actually understood her mother's thoughts, so after briefly considering it, she nodded in agreement.
"Special blood types aren't really a sensitive topic anymore, and I trust that Mr. Qin can ensure my mother's safety. Since my mother is willing, then you can go."
Victor breathed a sigh of relief.
He had originally thought convincing Joanna would be very difficult, but he didn't expect her to respect her mother's opinion so much.
However, having achieved his goal, Victor didn't continue to bother Joanna. He quickly went to arrange matters for going abroad and planned to get Sandra a passport.
Regarding Sandra and Henry's divorce certificate, Joanna specially retrieved it from Dr. Bruce's office and handed it to Sandra.
"Mom, since you've found your family now and completely freed yourself from past relationships, I hope you can find your own happiness in the future and live for yourself."
Sandra nodded, but there was still some hesitation in her eyes. "I still can't let go of you and Chad. Joanna, you won't blame Mom for being selfish, will you?"
Joanna shook her head and said, "Chad and I are both adults now. Ms. Sandra, you are yourself first, and only then are you our mother. You've already devoted over twenty years to us. For the rest of the time, I hope you can find your true self instead of constantly compromising for family harmony and wearing down your own personality."
