Chapter 9 Chapter 3.3
"Desmond, be careful with what you say," his mother scolded him.
"Isn't she content that she lives here? Isn't she content that I'm marrying her according to your wishes? Does she want to interfere in the company?" I felt his eyes burning with anger. I remained bowed.
"It's my wish that she works in the company. Whether you like it or not, I will put her in the company. You don't own the company yet, Desmond, so you have no right to disobey my wishes." Shiermy's words made Desmond even angrier. I just closed my eyes when he slammed the table and then he straightened up.
He was about to leave when Shiermy spoke again.
"Don't leave now because the doctor I talked to is coming for the paternity test. I also want to be at peace of mind. If you know you didn't do anything to Heaven, you don't need to be nervous, but if we prove that Heaven is carrying your child. You will follow everything I say."
"Damn it!" we heard Desmond mutter and then he left the garden completely. I remained bowed while I was squeezing my fingers. In just a blink of an eye, I'm already in this situation.
"As for you Heaven, if you try to escape and disobey me. Your family will be the one to suffer," Shiermy also threatened me seriously. I looked at her, but she smiled at me. I don't know if her smile is genuine or if I should be afraid of that smile. What if she accepts me now because I'm carrying the new generation of their family that they've been dreaming of? And when I'm no longer useful to them, they will just throw me away like trash and take my child away from me.
I was just looking at Shiermy while she was sipping her coffee. I can't read her intention towards me. Should I really be nervous about this family?
After we ate breakfast, the doctor and his companions arrived. I was already sitting on the sofa with Grandma Mariam next to me, while Desmond and Shiermy were on the other sofa. I'm nervous about what will happen not because I'm not sure that Desmond is the father but because of what Desmond might do to stop our wedding and get me out of their lives.
I looked at Desmond, but I caught him looking at me too. His eyes seemed to be burning with anger. We stared at each other for a few seconds before it was cut off when the doctor approached me to take a DNA sample.
I was already drawn blood because that's all that can be done because I'm still pregnant. When I finished being drawn blood, I looked at Desmond again. He was also finished being drawn blood.
"How many days before we can see the result, doc?" Shiermy asked.
"A week is long enough. I will call you right away, Mrs. Velasquez when I have the result," the doctor answered. Shiermy nodded. Shiermy escorted the doctors out of the house. The three of us were left in the living room. Desmond stood up and was about to leave when his grandmother spoke.
"Don't try to escape, Desmond. You know what will happen, I can easily tell your grandfather to remove your name as heir. Now that you're going to have a child, we can easily transfer all the assets that should be yours to him," Grandma Mariam said seriously. Desmond looked at his grandmother in disbelief.
"Even you, grandma, will do this to me? We're not even sure if that child is mine!"
"We'll find out this week too." Desmond smirked.
"What will you do, grandma, when we find out that the child is not mine? What will you do when you find out that that woman is only after money? Am I the only one who should be punished here? She entered my room that night. Isn't what's happening now really planned?" Desmond said seriously. I'm nervous about what he might do to discredit me.
I looked at Grandma Mariam who was staring directly into Desmond's eyes.
"If she's just fooling us, her whole family will pay," we looked at Shiermy who answered. Desmond smirked.
"Okay, then let's wait and see," he said with a smirk and then he looked at me as if he was sure that he was not the father of my pregnancy. I want to go home. How can I be sure that he won't do anything to the DNA result? He's a powerful man and I'm just a humble employee.
I went back to my room. I don't know why I'm nervous. Desmond can easily manipulate the DNA result while I just wait for them to announce it.
I called Aleena. I miss my family so much. How are they?
"Heaven, how are you? Aren't they hurting you there? Aren't you having a hard time?" Aleena asked me worriedly. I smiled, I know she's very worried about me.
"I'm okay, they're all kind except for Desmond who's always angry at me." Aleena breathed a sigh of relief.
"That's good. Have you called aunty yet?"
"Not yet, I know mom is still angry at me. My atm card is in my closet. Get it and give it to Anica so they have allowance."
"Okay, I'll do it." After we finished talking, I hung up the call. I looked around my room. The size of my room is like our whole house.
If Desmond does something to the DNA result, mom will surely get angry again. Why do they need to involve my family in this? I've told them several times that I don't need to take responsibility, but they insisted that I stay here.
I can only sigh. The wedding is next week and if the result doesn't match because Desmond might have done something, what will happen to us and my family?
