Chapter 32 Bound by the Devil’s Desire
The once-bright garden darkened under Lucifer’s gaze. The flowers shriveled, their petals curling in fear. The air turned cold, sharp enough to bite through skin.
A dangerous smile played on Lucifer’s lips, and Michael’s stomach twisted. The Witcher’s warning hadn’t been nearly enough.
Selena stepped between them, her hands trembling as she faced the Devil himself. “Please,” she whispered, her voice breaking. “He did nothing wrong. Let him go.”
Lucifer’s eyes flicked to where she held Michael’s hand. The red mate thread glowed faintly between their fingers alive, pulsing, binding. Jealousy slithered through him, dark and venomous.
The garden seemed to hold its breath.
Petals shriveled mid-bloom, their colors fading to ash. Shadows spread through the roots, devouring the last bits of light. Even the air turned thick, trembling under the weight of Lucifer’s fury.
Selena’s hand slipped from Michael’s, but the faint red thread connecting them pulsed alive, defiant. Lucifer’s eyes followed it, narrowing. That glow wasn’t just light; it was rebellion. It was love. It was everything he despised and craved.
That thread should have been his.
That woman should have been his.
And yet this mortal stood there breathing, trembling, touching what was his.
“Step back, Selena.” The command rolled from his lips, smooth as silk, dangerous as fire.
Her voice shook, but her resolve didn’t. “No. I’m not stepping back.” Tears shimmered in her lashes, catching the dim light like shattered glass. “He did nothing wrong. He’s my boyfriend.”
The word sliced through Lucifer’s chest like a blade. Boyfriend. Such a small, mortal word and yet it carried power enough to set Hell aflame.
Lucifer’s jaw tightened. The ground shivered beneath his boots. Then, with a flick of his wrist, the world bent to his will.
A wind howled through the dying garden, ripping leaves from branches. Selena gasped as her feet left the ground, her body drawn helplessly toward him.
He caught her midair, one arm curling around her waist, the other hand still raised with barely restrained rage. Her heart hammered against his chest fast, frightened, human.
Lucifer tilted his head, eyes burning into Michael. “She. Is. Mine.”
Michael stumbled back a step, his pulse roaring in his ears. The illusion of Lucifer’s humanity cracked like thin glass two black horns pushed through his hair, faintly glowing at their roots. His shadow stretched long and jagged across the ground, alive, twisting like smoke.
“Let her go,” Michael said, voice low, trembling but not breaking. “You don’t own her.”
Lucifer’s lips parted, and a sound like laughter cold, cruel, inhuman filled the space between them.
“How dare a human tell me what I can and cannot claim?”
“If I’m just human,” Michael said through clenched teeth, “then I still have the right to love. And I love her. She’s mine.”
Something ancient flickered in Lucifer’s eyes something wild and wounded. But then the fury came. Dark energy burst from his body like a living storm. The ground cracked open, bleeding black fire.
“You dare challenge me in my own kingdom?” His voice deepened, the sound shaking the air. “I could erase you tear your soul from your body and scatter it across the void.”
Michael’s breath came ragged, but his eyes never left Selena. “Do it,” he said hoarsely. “But you’ll never have her heart.”
Lucifer’s expression went still. Too still. Then he raised his hand.
Invisible force wrapped around Michael, lifting him off the ground. His body arched, a strangled sound escaping his throat. The air smelled of burning roses and blood.
“Michael!” Selena screamed, thrashing in Lucifer’s grip. “Stop! Please stop! He’s done nothing!”
Lucifer didn’t move. His eyes, glowing like dying stars, stayed fixed on Michael. The more Selena struggled, the harder his hold on her became until her efforts broke into sobs.
Then light.
Pure. Blinding. Unforgiving.
It ripped through the garden, slicing the shadows apart. Lucifer staggered back, shielding his eyes. When the brilliance faded, Michael was gone.
For one heartbeat, there was silence.
Then Hell shook.
Lucifer’s roar split the air an unholy sound of rage and loss. Wings of black fire tore from his back, spreading wide enough to blot out the dying sky. His horns flared, molten cracks running down his temples as raw power rippled from him in waves.
He tilted his head back, voice echoing across the endless dark.
“Whoever took you from me…” his voice thundered, shaking stone and sky alike, “…will pay with their life.”
Then softer, almost a whisper but one filled with fury and promise:
“I’m coming for you.”

Do you think Selena still sees the man in him beneath the Devil’s rage, or has he gone too far to be forgiven? And Michael… was he brave or reckless to stand his ground in Hell itself?
