Chapter 67: Leah
LEAH'S POV
The sound of a car driving into the compound caught my attention, making me climb down from the bed I was huddled up in. I knew it wasn't my parents because they didn't go to work that morning. I didn't know why nor did I care to ask, but it seems that they stayed behind for the person who just drove into the compound.
I stood upstairs by the rail, looking down at my parents welcoming Rhea and Estefan with smiles on their faces oblivious to my presence. Estefan glanced up and our eyes met for a split second before he looked away. He said something to my parents before turning to Rhea and kissing her forehead.
My hands tightened on the rail as anger coursed through before I made my back into my room. I laid back on my bed, trying my possible best not to think of those two but that seems impossible as the scene of Estefan kissing Rhea's forehead kept playing in my head.
For someone who claimed not to want to get married, Rhea seems comfortable with Estefan touching and kissing her. That sly fox. That was what she wanted and she got it by claiming to be the victim of forced marriage, gaining everyone's sympathy including Estefan's.
Moments later, a soft rap came through the door but I ignored it, hoping that whoever was there would get the hint and leave. But they didn't as the creaking sound of the door opening made me sit up on the bed to meet Rhea's annoying innocent face.
"What do you want?" I glared at her.
"I want to talk to you." She moved closer to the bottom of the bed.
As usual, I accused her of planning the whole situation and she began to say some things that doesn't seem pleasant to my ear. I didn't know when our conversation took a wrong turn that I ended up throwing a mug at her head.
She cried in pain but I couldn't care less because of the anger that was blinding me. She had the guts to come into my room and rubbed her marriage to Estefan in my face. That wench.
With her bleeding head, she crawled out of my room and the next thing I heard was my mom's scream, "Rhea! Oh my God. How did this happen?"
I closed the door to block their screams as I sat down on the bed, putting my headphones over my head.
An hour later, my dad barged inside my room, fuming in anger. He yanked the headphones off as he screamed at me, "What kind of monster resides in you? How could you do that to your sister?"
"It's her fault for provoking me." I rolled my eyes.
"How can you say she was provoking you when she was only trying to help? You could have killed her, Leah." He raised his voice even more.
"Judging by the fact that you still have the time and energy to shout at me, she must still be alive," I said with no remorse.
"You are a devil incarnate. I can't believe your mother and I gave birth to a devil like you." He walked toward the door and then stopped at the entrance before turning back to face me. "Just pray to your stars that Estefan doesn't take any actions when he sees what you did to his wife." He walked out after throwing me a glare.
He thought he could scare me with Estefan. Estefan could do whatever he wants for all I care, nothing matters to me anymore. I put my headphones back on my head.
The vibration of my phone against the bed made me realize that my phone was ringing. I searched for it and found it under the duvet cover to see that it was Shirley calling. Taking the headphones off my head, I answered, "Hello."
"Leah, you won't believe what I found out today," she exclaimed.
"Just tell me what it is." I rested my back on the headboard.
"You know that my friend who works at Empire," she started.
"Yeah, what about her?" I nodded to myself.
"She told me that Prince Estefan was the one who requested that they sign in Mackenzie in return for a partnership with him."
"What?!" My eyes widened. "Are you sure about this?"
"Yes. She said everybody in the company found out about it today when Estefan came to sign the contract with them. Mackenzie was also present, so Mr Darlington told her that Prince Estefan was the one who put in word for her."
"No, that can't be possible." I shook my head.
Estefan knew that I hated Mackenzie, so why would he choose her of all the models in London? Did he do that on purpose to hurt me? Was everything that was happening to me Estefan's plan?
Was I accusing Rhea wrongly all this while? What if Estefan was behind everything? It didn't make sense that he choose Rhea all of a sudden after making me believe that we would be together, giving me the confidence to announce it on TV only for him to choose Rhea and end up embarrassing me.
But the question was why would Estefan be after my career? What would he gain from bringing me down?
There were so many questions in my head that could only be answered by Estefan or...
"Shirley, can you do me a favour?" I asked.
"What is it?"
"I'm going to give any amount you need to hire a private investigator and make him find out everything he can about Estefan."
"You want me to find dirt on him?" She questioned.
"Just find out everything from his past, every single thing, okay?" I emphasised.
"Yes ma'am. How long do I have to get the information?"
"I don't care how long you take, just get me what I need and it better be something good, okay?"
"Yes," she replied before I hung up.
I needed to know what Estefan had against me, that was the only way to solve this mystery and know why I was being punished for no reason.
