Chapter 30: Josiah
Watching Eunice eat is so fascinating, especially now because of the curious eyes of her friends.
I know that they know how Eunice and I started. They were at the wedding and they probably know a lot about our marriage.
Nanette was throwing me glances as I continued to feeding Eunice. She heaved a heavy breath. “Are you serious with our friend?”
Eunice stopped chewing and narrowed her eyes at her friend. She was obviously taken aback and I can’t deny that I am, too.
Among all her friends, I believe Nanette and Mitch are the straight-forward ones. Mona was obviously quiet but I believe that she’s like Dorian. She only talks once but it seeps into the system.
I looked at Nanette and nodded. “I am.”
Nanette raised her brows. Mitch leaned on the table as she gave me a look like asking me to elaborate more on that. Mona was blankly staring at me like she’s trying to weigh me.
Eunice looked at her friends lazily. “Nan, stop that.”
Nanette just shrugged and then looked at me again. “Why are you only serious now? Where’s your girlfriend?”
Eunice rubbed her temple when she heard what her friend said. She was about to tell her off when I talked.
“I was confused for a long time,” I started. Eunice stared at me like I was making a mistake but then she swallowed and looked away.
I turned back to her friends and saw how they are carefully watching us. “I will talk to Hannah today.”
Eunice went complete still beside me when she heard me say that. I never told her about it because I believe that Hannah is my business, not hers.
After all, she’s not in any way related to Hannah if it isn’t for me.
“You will break up her?” Mitch asked.
I nodded.
“You should have done that a long time ago,” Mona chirped. I froze at the coldness in her voice. “You treated her as your mistress, Mr. Kim.”
Eunice tried to stop Mona but I held her hand. Mona speaks just like Dorian. I’ve heard this last night already but I still feel bad about it. I guess I wouldn’t feel better until I ended my relationship with Hannah.
I threaded my fingers with Eunice as I leaned closer to her ear. “It’s okay, baby.”
Eunice pursed her lips in a thin line before rolling her eyes at me. I grinned. I like it when she dons her mean look. It is so naturally appealing.
I looked back at Mona. “I know. I apologize for that.”
Mona’s look on me hardened. “You should.”
Nanette laughed while Mitch was smiling widely as they saw my shocked look at what her friend said. I looked at Eunice and she was smirking too.
“You seem nice,” Mitch said.
I didn’t speak. Would I get crucified if I did? I have never felt this kind of pressure in my life. I am not even pressured whenever I am in front of Eunice’s parents. Just now. Just now that I am in front of her friends.
“He’s not,” Mona contradicted.
Nanette laughed even harder before looking at Mona. “You are such a savage!” she exclaimed and Mona just smirked before looking at me again.
Damn. She’s scary.
“Now, prove to us that you deserve Eunice.”
“Mona!” Eunice tried to stop her.
Mona just glared at Eunice. “I don’t want this guy getting close to you because you are his wife, Eunice. And need I remind you that he is still in a relationship right now? He fell for you even with a long-time girlfriend. He can do that to you if you keep falling for him.”
My eyes widened at what Mona said. She thought I have cheating tendencies. Is that it?
“I won’t cheat on Eunice,” I said with conviction.
Mona raised her brow at me. Nanette and Mitch are quiet beside her. “Of course, that’s what you all say, right?”
I took a deep breath. I can’t change their minds with my actions right now. And besides, they have a point.
Eunice sighed dejectedly. “Can we stop this?” she asked, obviously tired of this topic.
Mona smirked. “Prove it to us, Josiah Kim,” she started. “Because the way I see it, Kyle Kim is still a better choice for our friend here. Not you.”
Anger crept in me when I heard Kyle Kim’s name. I didn’t like the sound of it. He’s a better choice than me? Of course, I won’t let it stay that way.
Mona looked at me and grinned like she knew she hit a nerve. Is she provoking me? Is this the reason of her attitude towards me?
Eunice glanced at me with a worried look. I smiled at her and shook my head before turning towards her friends.
“I may have done stupid things before but I am willing to act on making myself better for Eunice. She will be safe in my arms.”
Mitch and Nanette nodded while Mona just stared at me. “We’ll see about that, Josiah Kim.”
~*~
Eunice texted me that she’s already in the mall with her friends as I was waiting for Hannah to show up in the café I told her.
Me: Take care. Shall I pick you up?
Eunice: No need. Nan will drive me home.
Me: Okay. See you at home.
Eunice didn’t reply to me again but that was alright because Hannah was already at the door and smiling widely at me. She sat on the chair across me.
“You ordered for me?” she asked acting surprised at me.
I nodded and smiled weakly. I don’t know what I feel right now. Nervous? Sad? I don’t know. But I don’t know any better way to end this anyway.
Besides, this is the only way that I can make myself at least half deserving for Eunice.
I want to be deserving of her. I want to show her that I am not playing games. I really like her. I really want our marriage to work for real.
Hannah looked at me intently. “Is everything okay?” she asked, noticing that I was off.
I shut my eyes and sighed hard. “Hannah,” my voice is almost shaking. But this is the only way. This is the right thing to do. “I’m sorry. I know I should have done this a long time ago.”
Hannah continued to stare at me. Her eyes are weary and she looked scared. She took a deep breath before looking away. “Is this about your marriage?”
My eyes widened. “You knew?”
Hannah bit her lip and nodded while looking at her frappe.
“Since when? Why didn’t you confront me?” Damn it. I’ve never been worse than an asshole before. But these days, I literally am.
She smiled weakly. “When you got married…” she sighed. “Your mother told me.”
My blood immediately boiled because of that. “What?!”
I knew my mother didn’t like Hannah for me but for her to confront my girlfriend about my wedding is something I have never imagined her to do.
“Is that why you were out of town on the day of my wedding?” anger is seeping through my system.
Hannah nodded. “It was for the better anyway,” she replied with tears filled her eyes.
I stood up and walked to her side to hug her. “Fuck, I’m sorry. I’m sorry you had to know it from her.” I said as I cooed her.
She smiled and looked at me. “It’s okay.” She replied before hugging me back. Damn it. I need to talk to my mother now.
