Chapter 30: I will take you away!

Actually, Arthur wanted to ask Paula that question that afternoon. However, she stuttered and said that she wanted to sign up for a cooking class.

She really didn't know how to lie.

She was a wise and capable young lady, but she didn't know how to cook. No one would believe such an obvious lie.

"Of course not. My husband is very responsible for me." She smiled happily and denied it.

Sitting in the driver's seat, the man spoke again. "If you need money, you can tell me. Although I haven't worked for many years, my salary is quite good."

Already on the subject, Arthur couldn't help but start showing off a little. "I bought this car with my money. It cost about thirty thousand dollars, and all my classmates are jealous of me."

Looking at him, Paula's eyes filled with admiration. As expected, "You are very impressive. It would be wonderful if one day I could be as great as you."

Arthur chuckled. "There's nothing you can't achieve as long as you work hard. By the way, Paula, you haven't told me where you live."

Paula quietly told him the address of Villa Swanlake.

Arthur was stunned for a long time.

"You mean Villa Swanlake, a special neighborhood for the rich?"

Paula nodded. "I think it's the only neighborhood of Villa Swanlake, isn't it?"

The confusion in Arthur's eyes lasted a long time. "A. What does your husband do?"

The villas in the Villa Swanlake neighborhood were so expensive that many people didn't even dare to dream about them.

"My husband has no job," Paula answered honestly. "He stays at home every day, drinking tea and listening to the news. He also chats with Mr. Conan and Robert."

"Is he the young heir?"

"I think so."

Arthur's smile was really stiff. So, he should be happy to know that Paula is marrying him.

Arthur frowned. "Since he's so rich, Paula, why do you want to go out and do a part-time job to earn money?"

If the man was good to her, he would give her a lot of money even if she talked to him about anything in a simple and flirtatious manner.

She was a rich young heiress who could live in Villa Swanlake without having to work. He would definitely be generous with money.

Exhaling a long breath, Paula began to feel a little regret for even mentioning the matter to Arthur. "He doesn't know that I'm looking for a part-time job. I don't want him to know either. I really want to go out and learn some cooking skills to surprise him. Arthur, if you dig any further into my personal matters, I will stop seeing you!"

Since Arthur had repeatedly asked about her personal affairs, it made her feel a little uncomfortable. Lucy was blackmailing him, so he had to go out and earn money. The incident was a family affair, and he didn't want anyone else to know about it.

It didn't occur to Arthur that Paula, who was always kind, would say those words. Feeling awkward, he could only laugh softly. "It's okay; I won't ask again about it. As long as you're happy, it's fine."

She refrained from asking any more questions, and they sat in silence until Arthur's car pulled up to the entrance of the Swanlake Villa neighborhood.

Originally, she wanted to take him to her door.

However, Arthur's car seemed too humble compared to other brands and luxury cars in the neighborhood. Therefore, she was detained by the security guards, who probably thought she was a person with ulterior motives.

In addition, Paula had not lived there for long, so the neighborhood security guards did not recognize her. Therefore, the two were shunned from the neighborhood.

"Arthur, you can leave."

Paula smiled embarrassedly at him. "I'll call and ask my family members to come pick me up."

Arthur nodded. "That's good. Otherwise, your husband will think of something bad again if he sees me."

After watching Arthur's car drive away, Paula took out her mobile phone, wanting to call Kelley and tell her that she was stopped in the driveway.

Two minutes later, Robert, wearing a suit, appeared at the neighborhood entrance. "Mum, Mr. Mark asked me to come pick you up."

Paula's eyes widened.

If she remembered correctly, it should now be past nine in the evening.

"Mark's still not asleep."

Robert seemed to realize Paula's hesitation and nodded respectfully. "He's still waiting for you to come home and eat with him."

"It's already late. You still haven't eaten?"

Paula was very surprised by his face. She looked a little desperate.

Robert nodded. "So if you feel you appreciate it, let's go home right away."

Paula didn't dare delay any longer. Following Robert, she soon entered the neighborhood.

Seeing that Paula's bag looked a little heavy, Robert gently stopped her. He then picked up her bag and carried it before they quickly left the neighborhood entrance.

Under the shade of a tree less than a mile away from the neighborhood entrance, Arthur frowned as he watched the backs of Paula and the middle-aged man wearing a suit as they left.

He had never asked Paula about her husband's age because he made assumptions from the words she spoke, claiming that her husband was used to drinking tea and listening to the news. The man she married was definitely not too young.

However, it did not occur to her that her husband was actually an old man.

Narrowing her eyes.

He wasn't the type of person to be vain. Some accident might have happened to her family, so she had to marry a middle-aged man for money, right?

That man could give her many things, but he could not give Paula love.

"Sooner or later, I'll take her away."

Feeling disturbed, Paula returned to the mansion with Robert. The man, whose eyes were covered by a piece of black silk, was propped up in his wheelchair, listening to Mr. Conan read a novel to him.

Upon entering the mansion, Mr. Conan was reading the passage where Anna decides to divorce Karenin in a book called Anna Karenina.

Paula frowned uneasily.

She had just married Mark, but Mr. Conan was reading a book that made people not yearn for love. Surely no one would be happy with that.

After Mr. Conan finished reading the passage, it was then that the man in the wheelchair hit the armrest of the wheelchair with one hand. Then he said lightly, "I heard that the door was just opened. Did anyone come?"

Mr. Conan looked at Paula. Then he bowed and replied, "Sir, the young lady is at home."

"What time is it?"

"Nine o'clock."

The man leaning on the wheelchair smiled. "I think it's been ten years since I ate at this late hour."

Paula paled. As she guiltily helped Kelley serve the plate, she whispered, "Actually, you don't have to wait for me. I have an exam coming up soon. During this course, I will be studying until late at night."

Mark didn't bother exposing his lie either. "Let's go eat."

Paula nodded silently, and her heart was filled with anxiety.

She can't have caught him lying, right?

Since childhood, I have rarely lied. Every time she lied, she was very surprised and filled with fear for a long time.

In order to hide her guilt, she specifically chose to sit farthest away from him during meals.

However, the moment she sat down, the man in the wheelchair frowned slightly. "Come here."

"Come to you? What happened?"

"Give me food to eat!"
