Chapter 82: Whose Child Is It?

Ethan

“Hazel!” I yelled her name, holding her in my hands.

She was limp in my arms, her eyes closed, her breathing shallow.

She’s out of it. I need to get her treated, but how the fuck do I do that in these woods?

The sound of a phone ringing disrupted the silence in the room. I picked my phone up and checked the caller ID, and it was Elaine.

“Fuck” I cursed under my breath, biting my lower lip.

I had forgotten that I made a promise to her that I’d be back soon; it's our wedding day, but I can't leave Hazel here to get a marriage done. No.

I put the phone back into my pocket and picked Hazel up, sprinting through trees and woods, trying to get her to a place where she could be treated.

The wood was quiet and empty except for the chirping of birds, the movement of small animals, and the rustling sounds of leaves beneath my legs.

Soon, I began to see huts and a few people moving around. From the way they dressed, I could tell they were into farming.

One of them saw me and could see the injured girl in my hands, but said nothing and just walked past me.

I snapped my gaze to the back and stopped him. “Hey,” I called.

“Is there any doctor around?” I asked, my voice holding authority, dark and low.

“Walk to the end of the street, then make a left turn. In the first hut you see, you might be lucky to find the doctor inside,” he said, then he was back on his way immediately.

I sprinted through the streets as he had said and soon found the hut.

I walked in, my body invincible. A man was seated in front of a bed, his back facing me.

I showed myself. He still couldn't see me, but I had a feeling he could feel my presence.

“Who are you?” The man asked.

I knew it.

I appeared in front of him, placing Hazel on the bed.

“She's hurt, she needs to get treated immediately. Help her,” I said.

I would have loved to add the word please, but it just wouldn't come to my lips.

The man stood up and stared at Hazel before he brought his gaze back to me.

“Why should I help her?” He asked.

“Because you are a doctor,” I said with a darkened gaze.

I already looked over the room the moment I got in, and I had seen acupuncture needles and some other medical tools.

The man smirked, and I could tell he wasn't ready to get Hazel treated.

“I'll pay you anything you want, just bring her back to life,” I said.

“Alright then,” He didn't argue and leaned in closer to her to examine her pulse.

After doing so, he tore parts of her dress and checked her wounds before applying things to them and bandaging them.

I stood still and watched closely while he did all these.

“When you checked her pulse, what did you discover?” I asked the man.

“She's pregnant,” he answered without bringing his gaze to me.

“And could you have figured out who the pregnancy belonged to that way?” I asked.

He laughed for a short while. “No”

“Then what about the time she got pregnant?” I asked again.

The man fell silent and only examined her pulse once again. After some minutes passed, he placed her hand down and faced me.

“She's four weeks pregnant,” he said.

Four weeks. Yes, that's exactly the time we met at the club. It was some time around four weeks ago.

But still, I knew I couldn't make assumptions and couldn't conclude that the child is mine; I had to hear it from Hazel.

“I'll be out and let her rest. You can take her once she's awake, she’ll be fine then,” the man said.

My gaze was fixed on Hazel. “Thank you,” I said to the doctor.

He walked out, leaving the room to Hazel and me.

I sat on the stool in front of her and stared at her face. But suddenly, I remembered something.

My phone.

I picked it up from my pocket and glanced over at the screen. Fifteen missed calls, all from Elaine.

A groan escaped my lips as I threw my head back. It had been three hours since we left. Going back now won't be too late as I would still be able to meet up for the wedding.

But I can't leave, not when Hazel is still here, unconscious. Nor can I pick up Elaine’s calls.

For hours, I sat beside Hazel waiting for her to wake up, but she didn't wake until late in the evening.

Her hands moved first, followed by a groan, and then her eyes slowly fluttered open.

I didn't move an inch from where I stood but just watched her.

She sat up on the bed, and her eyes moved over the room first, her face creased in confusion.

She looked startled to see me. “You…… what are you still doing here?”

“Where am I?” She asked.

“I think you should thank me first for finding a place to get you treated,” I said with a glare. “You collapsed when you bragged about finding your way,” I said in a mocking tone.

“Leave! I don't want you by my side. I don’t even want to see you ever again!” she snapped.

I stood up, my hands in my pockets as I walked closer to her bed, my frame towering over hers magnificently.

“Today is supposed to be my wedding day, Hazel,” I said. “But I left my wedding just to come save you since your father and your useless fiancé wouldn't do that.”

“I didn't ask you to do all that!” She snapped again.

I continued. “I'm afraid you won't have a choice but to keep seeing me.”

She raised her brows. “What do you mean?”

“You were kidnapped, but I found you with rogues. I saved you from rogues, and from now on, you are mine,” I declared.

She laughed. “You must be insane, lord Ethan.”

“Without your help, I would have been fine,” she added.

“I missed an important day of my life because of you. There's nothing you can do about this,” I said.

She didn't look terrified or shocked; she only found this amusing.

“It will never happen! I'll never be yours,” she said.

She stood up from the bed, attempting to walk out, but I held her arm, making her snap her gaze to me.

Her eyes were dark, glowing with hatred and anger for me.

“It's very late. How do you think you’ll be able to get out of the woods by this time?” I asked her.

“That's none of your concern,” she replied, then yanked her arms away from me.

She attempted to leave, but my voice stopped her again.

“The child in your stomach.” That made her pause. “Whose child is it?”

I turned to look at her, and she also snapped her gaze back to me. I expected a response, but all I could see in her eyes was hesitation.
