Chapter 99 I am the Chosen Alpha

Chapter 99 I am the Chosen Alpha
Amarien's POV

"Well, this is oddly comforting, seeing how far you'd go for vengeance." Theron pulled the knife off his chest as one would pull a thorn off the skin. He tossed the knife into the river. No sign of blood could be seen on his chest.

"How did you…" I stammered, backing off from him.

The wind blew, waving his long dark hair in the breeze, making him look even more horrific, like the sceptre of death himself.

"There's no need to be afraid, Amarien." He flung his hands in the breeze. "I won't hurt you. But I have to say, it's such a delight to see that look in your eyes. Is that marvel, horror, or bliss I see?"

He ran his hands through his hair.

"Who are you?" I mumbled, trembling at his sight.

"Ah! At last, she asks! Far from all those assumptions you've been told about me. Alpha Theron of the South, who haunts children in their sleep and is out to wipe all humanity." He scoffed.

"Your people deem me weak and arrogant. A monster that will be trampled upon in no time. A ravaging beast that will be toppled. Well, Amarien, they couldn't be more wrong."

“But…but…” I started backwards. "You were defeated. Once! I heard the stories. I know the legends!"

"Of course you do, Amarien," Theron smirked. "Then perhaps you know of the legends of the age-old prophecy written with the blood moon."

My eyes widen. The secret prophecy I found in Grandma Chichi's house! The words flash through my mind.

How could Theron possibly know about it? It was the secret that started the war in the werewolves' land. How could Theron possibly know about it!

"Behold! A strong and mighty Alpha shall emerge from the Human kingdom." Theron's words blaze through the breeze as he recites the prophecy, word by word, letter by letter. "An Alpha with the blood moon secrets and powers. And Alpha, which has the power of destruction and life!"

Theron's eyes met mine, narrow and intense. "Hasn't it dawned on you that I'm the Alpha those words speak of…"

I trembled.

No!

It couldn't possibly be.

The Alpha from the human Kingdom is meant to be Daevir!

But then, all I thought and imagined got wiped off by the reality on the ground. Theron was Daevir's brother. He came first from the human Kingdom, born of a human king and a werewolf mother, before Daevir emerged.

Surely, it had to be him!

Seeing my realization, a smile curved his lips. Steadily, he glazed me like a predator to its prey. "How disappointing it must be for you to think your salvation steams form Daevir, when I'm right here by your side, Amarien." His hands trailed my face.

"You thought me weak, powerless, pathetic compared to my brother, not knowing I have the powers to bring him to his knees if I so desire."

"Then why haven't you done it?!" Tears blazed in my eyes. Not only had I clung to a false hope that has cost me everything. I had no idea my salvation was right in front of me, and I tried to pin it down with a club.

Theron scoffed at my question. "Same reasons you're hesitant to admit the anger and fury in your heart, Amarien." He chuckled and circled me again.

"Over and over again, these people have reduced you to dust and ashes. When will you stop making excuses for them? When will you confess to yourself how much you hate them?" Theron stroked my hair backwards and leaned into my ear, "When will you take that bloody club and stab it into the heart of everyone who hurt you?"

The burning anger stirred in my heart, but I shut my eyes and turned to Theron. "You don't know me," I spat.

Theron eyes me from head to toe. "I'm afraid, Amarien, but you don't know yourself either." He grabbed my shoulders. "Don't you know how we sing your legends in the South here? The Hybrid who brings two seated Alpha to their knees with her scent. The Hybrid with the scent of the high mountains that kissed the blue moon."

I blinked. What was he talking about?

"Are you saying what I'm thinking…?"

"Yes." Theron's voice cuts in minds absolutely and resolute. "I'm saying exactly what you've known for years but will refuse to admit to yourself. "You are a werewolf, Amarien. A hybrid."

I froze.

"Your grandmother's portion suppressed all urges in her and her generation. But your power cannot be missed. Not when you hold the scent of the moon goddess herself."

I clasped my hand over my face, and the winds of pain and questions in me stopped that moment.

It was something I knew to be true, yet I ignored it all this while, hoping it was a bad dream I'd simply awake from.

But I was here, and it was real.

Theron, seeing the waves of emotions on my face, eyed me steadily like there was more he was waiting to reveal to me.

More?!

What more could there possibly be?!

"There are a lot of things you done know, Amarien." Theron leaned back, steady and firmly. "And I tell you, you won't go far with that anger in your heart if I don't know these things."

Silence settles between us. The wind blew my hair, yet I didn't fight it. I only stood there, still, almost looking transfixed by an unseen force.

His words, now a low growl, brought me back to the present. It was startling and poignancy like a voice of will in my head. I couldn't escape.

"I have an offer for you, Amarien." He said ominously. "And I will tell you all of this and more when you take up this offer."
