Chapter 59 The Council’s Decision
Amarien's POV
"Our marriage is set for tomorrow, Amarien."
Watching the tears roll down my face, Catherine continued.
"I'm only here to deliver the message he has for you." Catherine stepped into the room and slowly leaned down to my ears whispering. "He has approved your execution, Amarien." She burst out laughing.
I quickly wiped the tears from my eyes.
No!
What did she tell him?
Daevir won't believe I will so easily betray him.
He trusts me.
But the words of my own thoughts betrayed me when I recalled Daevir's final words to me before we were caught.
His words echo in my ears.
"The allies of Alpha Theron are humans. They are people who wish to be nothing but their true selves." He scoffed. "Just like me. I felt nothing but sorry for them. I wish I could help them all out of their delusions. Theron is never their friend. He is never anyone's friend."
"But they are traitors anyway. Anyone who accepts friendship with Theron is an enemy of the empire and must be punished likewise. I will never forgive them."
I WILL NEVER FORGIVE THEM!!!
His words echo in my ears, making me block my ears with my hands and stumble to the floor.
Catherine watched me suffer.
"When we marry at sunrise, your head will be out on the poles for the vultures to feast. He will mourn you, but he will forget you the moment he sees the extent of my love for him. I will protect his secret with all my heart. And I will make him forget you ever existed."
"Lies!" I screeched. Desperation and despair are sucking into my heart. I wanted to cry out and pull out my hair, but I held myself together.
Cathrine lies. She is a liar. Daevir will never do this to me. I carry his child. He knows I love him more than anything, and I won't betray him. He will listen to me if I get the chance to speak with him.
He can never do without me.
He will…I gasped, realised a ground I had over Catherine.
"You will never be able to control his werewolf urges. Only I can do that!" I spat.
"That's right, Amarien. Only you can." Catherine shrugged casually. She was enjoying my unraveling.
I won't give her a show.
Catherine stepped closer to me and whipped up a pair of scissors from my hands. In a flash, she chopped a portion of my flair hair off and swung the strings of hair at me.
"This part of you will serve me well. Your scent is powerful enough to bring the Lycan to his knees. A drop of this is a portion that will keep Daevir as human as possible." She gave a mocking smirk.
My heart shattered.
Tears stained my eyes.
I turned to the council outside of the waiting room, rigorously debating my case.
"She's exactly what they claim she is. A curse!"
"We had warned the Emperor about her numerous times, but she has clawed her fangs around him. And now that she has sucked him dry, she crawls her way to the heir. She will make herself Queen by all possible accounts and destroy this kindgom form the inside out. Can you imagine the chaos that low flea will bring into our walls?"
"Those who ignore history are bound to repeat it. Concubine Amarien is a reminder of the ancient, horrific Queen Vasti, who crawled through the walls as a slave and ruled over us as Queen. She drank men's blood and would have this Kingdom in rumbles if her own son hadn't stopped her. Her own flesh and blood slit her throat to set us free. We must never let this plague get her way this time."
"With the Emperor's seal, we will have Concubine Amarien in the guillotine, scourged from this earth!" They all chorused with fervency.
My heart pounded in my chest.
Quickly, I turned to Catherine. "Take me to Daevir!" I screeched. "Let me speak for myself! I don't care if you kill me right here. I need to speak with him!
Catherine's lips curled mockingly. "Oh, but I did try to make that appeal to that." Catherine rose to her feet. "I told him to say goodbye to his love before her ends comes. Guess what he said…" Catherine chuttled.
"He said, and these are his own words..." Her eyes blazed with malicious glee. "I never want to see her again."
I was taken to the guillotine the next day. Malrick ordered the killing to be done very early in the morning so there wouldn't be a crowd that could cause a riot.
Everyone in the realm is furious with me and wishes I had gotten a less merciful sentence.
"They will rush at you in one accord and tear you apart with their bare hands." Malrick had said as he led me out of my cell. "Even I won't be able to save you."
There was a low timber to his voice. He sounded sad.
"Is the emperor okay?" I asked as I was led down.
Malrick stopped and looked at me. His eyes were shining with hatred. He loved his Master, the Emperor, and he hated me for having done this to him.
I hate myself, too, Malrick.
"After the courts gave the order for your execution. He slept and has been unconscious since. He said he doesn't see the point in living when you're not here. He is sick again."
With this, Malrick yanked my chains, making me match up to the place of my death.
