Chapter 14 Let’s Talk Elsewhere
Enzo’s eyes had begun to roam around her body.
She slightly tilted her head to the side to let him have a full view of her neck, though she had no idea why she did that.
"Won't let me in?" He began with a mischievous smirk.
She seemed to come back to reality as she shook her head and moved to block the space into her room.
Enzo raised his brow at this and looked at her. She stared back, not blinking.
"You don't care if I get sick from the cold?"
“Go drop in a ditch for all I care.”
“Ouch.” He dramatically clutched the fabric above his chest.
"You laughed at me," Grace suddenly blurted, crossing one arm atop the other, "I was only trying to talk to you and you laughed at me."
He stared at her for a moment, "I did, didn't I?" he said thoughtfully and moved forward as if to enter her room but Grace didn't budge, she wouldn't let him have his way.
"You know, I could easily just pick you up and move you aside."
Grace's eyes narrowed, legs spreading slightly apart as if to prepare for any attack. His eyes followed the movement and seemed to linger on her legs for more than a few seconds before slowly trailing up her body until they finally locked gazes.
Enzo leaned forward, their noses were mere inches from touching, "You wouldn't let me in?" He repeated in a sultry tone, clearly teasing as his tongue ran over his bottom lip.
"No. Now leave." She stared back, not breaking eye contact, he couldn't see but her toes were curling due to their close proximity.
"So be it then, little witch." He chuckled before turning away from her and gracefully jumping off the balcony. She gave a short laugh of disbelief, watching him nonchalantly walk to his car and get in.
Grace shut her window and leaned against it as she pressed her legs tightly together.
She didn’t understand it—or him—at all. But worse of all, why she felt so disappointed that he hadn’t forced his way in.
Grace had not slept much that night. She didn't understand Enzo's strange visit, how had he even known where she lived? And what was up with the nickname 'little witch'?
She quickly got ready for school, needing to get to the nurse's office first thing that morning as she had forgotten to do so the previous day.
She locked the door behind her and looked. No Maddox. She wondered what their relationship was supposed to be now. Her parents were still not home, and she practically lived alone now. Walking down the porch steps she saw her bike lying alone beside her porch's flower bed.
Maddox must have gotten it back for her from school as she had forgotten it, maybe he must've mentioned it when he dropped her off. Since he did that, maybe he might not be as mad at her anymore.
Grace reached school and did her blood work, the nurse was of no help when she asked why they were suddenly getting tested, she was just told the results would be back soon and she should return to class.
She did so and apologized to Molly who scolded her for not calling back and even ignoring her call when she called. The whole day was a blur for Grace as she couldn't focus on anything or anyone.
School was finally over and luckily, Molly had somewhere to be as the girl kissed her on her cheek and left.
Grace walked out to where the bikes were parked and started pulling out hers when someone grabbed her arm, and it was Maddox, she was shocked at the sudden appearance and instinctively pulled her arm back and began walking away already feeling her cheeks heating up at the thought of facing him.
Maddox ran after her and grabbed her by the arm once more, "What's your problem? Why are you acting this way?"
She couldn't even look at him and started making excuses about needing to leave, "I know you're acting weird because of the kiss..." he began, interrupting her words "...and I'm sorry for leaving so abruptly, I didn't mean to make it so awkward."
He noticed her visibly relax, "And to apologize properly I could get you what you want?" She finally smiled at him, "Maybe that book you've been wanting?" He continued.
Grace's eyes sparkled as she finally looked up at him, she had wanted nothing more than to make up with him, Maddox brushed her hair behind her ear and gave a little smile.
And it was that moment Enzo's car drove past them, he glanced at her and she felt like she was being judged, Maddox didn't notice as he turned to go get her bike, they walked outside the school as he said he had parked his truck outside.
Just when he was putting her bike in the back of the truck, he raised his head and saw Grace moving closer. Somehow, they were now surrounded by a gang of men.
She was glaring specifically at the pale-looking boy in front of the group who had a bandaged head.
"We need to talk"
"I have nothing to say to you, Dylan" Grace spat back still glaring at him.
Maddox looked back and forth between the two of them and immediately moved to stand in front of Grace, because these people obviously didn't want to just talk.
"She's that much of a threat considering you brought this many people for one girl?" He smirked.
"Shut up man, this has nothing to do with you, just move aside and let us deal with the bitch." Dylan's friend said.
Grace gripped Maddox's shirt in fear. Obviously, they wouldn't believe her even if she explained what had happened that night.
Maddox stared them down, "You really want to make a scene out here? Look, people are already watching, you sure you want your teachers to find out?" He said watching them and seeing how uncomfortable they'd become.
"Why don't we go somewhere quiet?" He suggested and saw some of them look at him in surprise, they wondered if he was actually stupid to do that as they outnumber them by far.
