Chapter 179: Therapy talk
(Few hours ago,)
Richard sat amidst the team that was intended to bring the queen back. The Sentinels were at one corner, all of them shaping up their weapons and talking about routines and tactics. The entire mission was a secret mission because there was no way they were letting the body of council know that they lost their queen because it was part of some elaborate plan to destroy an hidden organization.
Richard just sat at the chair, his presence menacing. He was wearing a dark cloak, long and thick and within it were different hostlers housing different weapons and currently he had darkness dancing around him hueing so that his presence was slightly hidden from everyone.
The Oracle had actually sent them a video of Melissa's unconscious body but the video had been intercepted by Joyce and Paul. It was going to be a broadcast but then two geniuses had actually intercepted it midway and rerouted their services so they could chase down the signal and Paul had fed it with a new and improved virus.
Now they had two missions. Rescue Melissa and the rest, which was a priority and then the second mission was to bring down the communications system of the Oracle. They’d made the mistake of attacking their software while those two were together.
Richard watched the Sentinels and the mean faces they all wore. These people were angry. As it would seem, Jacob and Hashar were legends among them. They'd led most of the Sentinels here and more often they'd been identified as good leaders who would go on to lay their lives on the line for any of them.
The Captain leading them now, Holt Sigurdson, had told Richard that he didn't really care about the queen as he cared for those two. Right in the corner was the lady who had been drafted with Eric or had Melissa would say Mr. Muscle in a corner just sitting quietly and staring into the wind. Richard understood at that moment that they were probably lovers and he exhaled.
He was missing his own mate too. Forget that she was Luna, he'd agreed to wager her safety for something bigger and it made him angry. The anger raging in him could only be kept at bay by the current silence he was exuding. He knew he had only like five sentences before he raged on.
He felt the entire get a little bit chiller all of a sudden and then he turned to Beatrice's direction. He sighed, she probably was the one losing the most today. The fact that her mate and the only friend she's ever made was about to die in a flash of a day disturbed her greatly. Richard sighed and decided to talk to her.
He stood up and he saw everyone glance in his direction with fear. He shook his head. It wasn't as if he was actually interested in any of their actions for now. He just needed solace, all this waiting was making him restless, so he walked to Beatrice.
“Hey what's up,” he greeted.
Beatrice glanced up, she looked at him and managed a weary smile. “I am guessing you felt my abilities leak out now?” She said, “I am sorry, just trying to calm down,” she said and Richard smiled.
“I understand what you are going through and I get why your abilities might be a little haywire today,” he said. “Mine is too, so I was thinking… Melissa always says talking about stuff makes it better to handle,” he said, though he'd never taken her up on that ever, but now that the chances of losing her were higher than ever. He was doing his utter best to try and bring her back and keep her grounded.
He had this belief that the more someone is remembered the more they are tethered to life. “Yeah,” she smiled. “She used to say that alright. I never really saw it as a solution,” she said. “But sure, we can talk,” she said.
Richard sat at the edge of the door, his leg crouched up to his mouth as he sat beside her. She smiled at him. “In some other life, Melissa believes we will be family,” he said with a smile.
“She told me that once too. She believes we are both cold,” Beatrice said.
“Yeah, what about Hashar?” He asked, “what kind of person is he?”
“He is just… warm.” Beatrice said. “He doesn't talk a lot, nor does he really like to do cuddly stuff,” she said. “He was built like a soldier, just there to sacrifice while everyone walks in the light of day… exactly like Melissa,” she said nodding.
“You seem a little upset about that, it is a noble thing,” Richard said.
“Noble, honorable. Yes,” she said. “But it makes me mad and I can't quantify why. It makes me feel I don't know… evil when I am mad at them,” she said.
“I understand you. I straight up called Melissa suicidal,” he said.
“Yeah, I was there,” Beatrice chuckled. “I never called Hashar names though, he is someone that you can't really find it in you to get angry at… not cause we are mates or anything. I mean even when I never even thought of dating me, he had this warm nature that made everyone around him just happy,” she said with a deep breath. “I am spacing out.”
“No… no, tell me more. How'd you guys meet,” he said.
“Oh we met here at the palace and he was at first made my temporary bodyguard,” she said. “But we didn't talk then. He kept to himself and I did mine then the king, Melissa's dad, decided Councillors shouldn't really have bodyguards if they are within the Castle as the entire place his protected, he wanted to relieve his own bodyguard of his duties but your father threatened him in front of everyone,” she said with a smile.
“So anyways after days of actually being apart I started to miss him. We never spoke but his presence made me happy. As it would turn out, he was feeling that way too, so he came to ask me out,” she said with a smile.
“No…” Richard said. He was about to speak again when Avalors walked to them.
“It is time,” he said.
