Chapter 160 Rerouting.
Melissa was dumbfounded when he spoke, she didn't understand computers much but even she knows a virus in anything is bad, so why would he write a virus. She looked at him like she was staring at the worst villain in the world before carefully asking. “Why would you write a virus?”
“Oh it's always been my dream to write one you know. Always wanted to write the most complex virus, this one was a prototype, but… it is not like the best,” he said shaking his head.
Joyce however was in her moment it was as if she had met a god. “You wrote the Achilles Virus?” She asked, and then drew a seat to be beside him. “Jacob, sorry, we are probably going to break up now as it is. You wrote the Achilles virus?” She asked again, looking intently at Peter who was a little bit irritated by her closeness. The latter shifted away from her but she didn't take the cue so drew even more closer to him.
“Relax,” Peter said. “It is just a prototype, it has several loopholes and to unlock my goal it isn't really what you call a self evolving virus,” he shook his head.
“You mean you can do better than Achilles?” She asked. “Jacob no need to worry,” she said, turning to the Sentinel who just sat there with his gaze frowned and his eyes focused. “We are still dating, however we are serving a new god,” she said.
Melissa giggled a bit but when she saw how serious Jacob was she looked around and then her eyes fell on Richard. He was in his normal posture mostly, though there seemed to be a kind of urgency about his gaze and body alignment, like he was ready to spring at any time.
Melissa understood what was going on; they didn't want the culprit to have a chance even if they did catch them. It would be a slap on their faces, if the culprit got away with the demon wolf and a Sentinel captain in that same room. She was already feeling sorry for whoever it might be.
“It would take a few hours to actually stop the virus. I have to reroute a lot of things and…” he turned to Melissa and smiled. “You don't need the explanation, sorry,” he said with a smile.
“I do need it…” Joyce protested with a vein growing on her neck.
“Should we leave the room then so you can perform your magic?” she asked.
Peter was about to answer when Richard grunted to get her attention. “Actually, no one is leaving or coming out of this building until the actual culprit is found,”
Peter Mikaeleson began his work, connecting lots of panel looking materials to the computer he was using. Joyce seemed to be a lot of help as they kept on talking and she eagerly did every single one of the tasks Peter askedher. Everyone in the building was a little surprised, as she seemed happier than she's ever been at work. The only time they got a breather was when Jacob came.
The feeling though was understandable, she'd met someone who was exactly like her and maybe even better and as expected, at first she envied him and later on she respected him and as it would seem now she just wanted to share insights with him. Though because it was Joyce, all these emotions happened within minutes. A series of emotions that would initially take a normal person weeks to process.
Melissa and Richard sat with each other and didn't really talk and she was already dozing off when Peter screamed. “I've got it!” Melissa jolted awake and walked to the computer screen.
Peter glanced at her and raised his eyes. “You need to start sleeping a lot more and also try telling him to actually get any amount of sleep. He would die if he keeps it up,” he said pointing to Richard and Melissa glanced at him disdainfully, mouthing words of rebuke at him.
“So,” Joyce said. “We've retrieved every single deleted feed. Now we just have to access it one after the other.”
Melissa almost jumped up for joy. If this goes well they would be able to nail the council of Vance and the culprit at the same time bringing them closer to shattering the Oracle once and for all. That was what she wanted right now, to vanquish that cult before anything would happen. She knew in her heart that something else was rising in the horizon. She could feel it; those that she ' ‘’d pushed towards the brink were going to snap back right at her and she can't be distracted when they come.
The Oracle was a big deal, but Melissa had a clear understanding of what they do and she came to realize that their goal was them biting more than they can actually chew. She had seen them operate and even Beateice had confirmed this, most of their agents were either acting out of fear, are some sort of weird killing machine like Hades and Bradshire or were just being controlled.
Peter scrolled through the feeds and Melissa told him to stop and save several pictures. They were pictures of Hance's councilors. Melissa watched him grit his teeth and saw their feeds. All three of them escape the castle during the chaos, led by another councilor. “Well we have something to use against them,” she said.
“Sure,” Hance sighed.
Melissa patted him on the shoulder. “You'll be alright,” she said.
“Now to the one who deleted the feed.” Peter said with a smile. He clicked a few buttons on the keyboard and then the feed of the security camera showed the person but it was just their back. They couldn't see the person at all and couldn't even guess what they were as they wore a hood.
“That's funny,” Joyce said.
“What is?” Melissa asked.
“That hood looks exactly like mine… I can't find it anymore though,” she said and just shook her head.
