Chapter 109 - LUNA'S BAGGAGE

Asher

I left our bed as soon as Alison shut the front door. From the way she was careful while dressing up, I knew she wanted me to get a few more hours of sleep, but how could I do that? I was definitely not the kind of man that lets his wife struggle while I enjoyed myself. I tried sending people to help her but the report I got was that she sent all of them away. She was somewhat of a perfectionist when it came to taking care of children, so they might have done something in a way she didn't like.

I was a little shocked when I was told she had gone home early. No, I did not ask anyone to spy on her. I don't know how it happened, but I noticed I would be constantly updated on her whereabouts and what she was doing whenever we weren't together. Maybe they were just trying to get into my good books, but I didn't mind.

"Alpha, the Luna barely ate her breakfast this morning." Now that shouldn't have been shocking but she had been served her favorite food. I only relaxed after she told me she was OK and that she would eat more later. I promised myself that I would go back and have lunch with her. Could there be something on her mind?

My mind was already reeling with ideas of what could be wrong with Alison. This had to have been the first time I had been told she didn't eat and that could have been because of two reasons. One, she never missed meals, or two, the events leading up to her barely eating were a cause of concern. She was simply tired, right? I barely eat when I am tired too. I tried to remember if I had missed something when I was pretending to be asleep when she left, but I could not come up with anything.

I was debating with myself whether I should ask Mary to check up on her when Chris called me. I released a breath I hadn't even realized I was holding, then answered the call. "Hello, how can I help you?" I neither spoke his nor my name. What if it wasn't Chris on the other side? Call me paranoid, but I like taking precautions. This was the first time I had gotten a call from him since he escaped Timothy's beatings. The caller ID said Chris but I couldn't put it past Marting to go through his phone, especially after he'd escaped from being held 'hostage'.

"It's me."

"Me, who?". The voice on the other side didn't sound familiar and even though it wasn't Martin's it could have been anyone of his lackeys.

"Asher, it's Chris." What happened to his voice?

"Which Chris? I am sorry, but this voice doesn't sound familiar."

All I had was the man cussing on the other side before I heard the familiar voice, "I umm, sorry. I used a voice changer earlier to prank call my sister. I think I forgot to remove it." Nervous laughter accompanied each of his words. Could the man be any purer? Prank calling his siblings. I resisted the laugh that was threatening to bubble out of my chest. He was already embarrassed enough, as it were.

"Oh, I understand." I did not. "Did we cause you any problems with the old guy?" This had been my biggest worry since he left that night. It became worse after not hearing from him in a while. I was constantly wondering whether he had been caught.

"No, the real bruises helped sell my escape story. Even so, they still asked me why they were few, so I lied to them that I fought back." His voice got colder towards the end. I wouldn't blame him, he had been held hostage and tortured, but their concern was over how few the bruised were. I added a mental note to remember to thank Timothy for his crude idea, fake bruises would have easily been seen through.

"Martin even slipped up and asked why I was back. I keep thinking he was hoping that you would do something worse to me." I knew that already. He didn't turn back when Chris had begged to be saved but Timothy told me he had seen a smirk on his face even though he wiped it off immediately.

It was funny that they readily believed that he fought back against me and managed to escape. Chris managed to get away from an Alpha! Any normal person would find it unbelievable, but to people who went around thinking they were better than everyone else it sounded right. "My offer still stands, you can join my pack when all of this is done."

"We will talk about that if we make it out of this with our lives intact." Such a pessimist, I had so many things I wanted to do for Alison, there was no way I was going to lose my life.

"Did you find anything important?"

"No, but I think Martin knows something. He has been way too secretive lately. I haven't managed to get close to him to get more information though." It wasn't surprising that the old fart knew something. "We might be leaving this place very soon and if that happens it will be even harder to get close to him." Don't ask why they were still staying at the hotel near my pack.

"Can we put a bug on his phone or something?" Blame Alison for making me watch too many spy movies. The number of times I've heard her call some human hot was too many to count. "Either that or you follow him back. Or better yet, why don't you pretend to be like the other council members?"

There was a pause before he asked in a voice filled with disbelief, "You mean to become an ass-kisser?" Why was he making it sound like I had asked him to cut his leg off or something?

"I said pretend." He only made a gagging sound. "Just think about it, it can't be th..."

"Asher! Come quickly!" Mary urgently called through the link.

I asked Chris to hold on for a moment as I replied to her. "What is it? I am in the middle of something."

"Asher! Get your ass here now!"

I growled at her before I could stop myself, "We may be friends, Mary, but I am still your Alpha. Watch the way to talk to me." I have never been that kind of alpha, but for some reason, my wolf was on edge.

She was quiet for a few seconds, probably from the shock of having been shouted at. But who was Mary? She didn't back down even when faced with a raging alpha. "Now is not the time for a pissing contest. Get yourself to the hospital now..."

"Alpha, the Luna fainted..."

"Alpha, Luna Alison..."

My vision blackened for a few seconds. It was as if Mary had opened the flood gates, there were more voices than I could in my head. "What happened?" Mary didn't answer me. Why was Alison at the pack hospital? How many hours has it been since she told me she was OK? It felt as if I was back there again. Even though I had been told she had fainted, I still could not stop thinking about the day Melanie came back.

Did I hang up the call with Chris? I only remembered I had been talking to him when I was half way to the pack hospital. I couldn't even tell how I had left the office. There was a crowd gathered at the entrance of the hospital which did nothing but made me panic even more. "This is a hospital, all of you should go back home." Why was there a crowd at the hospital?" This wasn't the first time either.

"OK, Alpha Asher." Their body language was showing how much they wanted to stay back but my voice had left no room for argument. So they had no choice but to drag their feet away.

I only needed to use my sense of smell to find the room she was in. I was glad to find that she wasn't alone. No one should be alone while sick. I could smell at least two or three other people with her. "Congratulations Alpha!" shouted Mary as soon as I opened the door! Her demeanor was way different from what it had been when she was shouting at me earlier.

"Mary! Get off the man, how can you be jumping on another man in front of your mate?" Only after she stepped aside did I notice Alison lying unconscious on the bed. Someone give a round of applause for not panicking! OK, I did panic because if something was wrong with her, Mary would not be jumping around like that.

"You are having a baby, Asher!" If I didn't have an image to uphold, I would have been just as loud as Mary. A BABY! Alison and I were having a baby. I know we already have the boys, but this was different! This was one that was created out of our love. I probably looked like a fool with the big smile I had on my face."

That is when I noticed the change in Alison's scent. No wonder I wasn't sure if it was two other people with her. "Is she really?" Why was I finding it so hard to believe? Yes, I am slow! Mary had already told me congratulations earlier but I didn't ask her what it was for.

"But why isn't she waking up?" Jeremy said something about exhaustion. He insisted she was just sleeping and that I should let her some more. These past few days have been hard on her. The late nights and early morning had taken a tool on her body. Someone would have to take over her duties whether she liked it or not. I could not slave away in her condition.

Suddenly, all the reports I had gotten earlier in the day made so much sense. Everyone had noticed something I hadn't.

"Congratulations Luna!" Jeremy! He had done it intentionally! He knew I wanted to break the news to Alison myself but he still did it.

"We are having a baby Alison." I only saw her eyes roll before she fell back on the pillow.

"ALISON!"
