Chapter 30 Himself
Lina's POV
Himself? Did I just say ‘himself?’ Is this even Noel? He looked…possessed.
Then he turned around—slowly, stiffly—as if someone, something was pulling his strings.
For a split second, I thought he was being controlled just like how you control something with a remote control.
Noel's eyes weren't normal. They weren't just dark…they were completely blank just like the way you see it in horror movies, just that this wasn't a horror movie and it scares me even more.
My knees nearly buckled. I thought I wouldn't be able to stand even one second longer.
I felt too weak.
The whites in Noel's eyes were completely swallowed, and he wouldn't look away from Mr. It was as if he was watching, waiting, monitoring the best time to pounce on me and strangle me to death.
I was too scared to run away. With his eyes on me like this, I feel all wrong.
Niel was giving this feeling of emptiness. Like the real him was far from him…far from this room.
A sharp chill suddenly shot through my spine…it shot so hard that I nearly stumbled back.
Noel's head tilted strangely, like he was trying to understand what a human was supposed to look like.
Oh, great gods! What to do?
I didn't run.
I remained rooted to the ground. If I leave, Noel might jump and that'll be on me. I saw him, I saw what he was about to do and I saw clearly that he wasn't himself, but I still left him all alone.
I don't see myself living with this kind of guilt for the rest of my life. I won't be able to live for a year.
“Noel…” I breathed.
I tried to sound calm but it was evident in my tone that I was more terrified than I looked.
Noel didn't respond to his name, however, he smiled to me, slow, wrong and for some reason, the smile stretched too wide for someone who's not acting on their own like him.
“He's calling me,” he whispered weakly, though still smiling. “He’s calling me. He wants me to come. He wants me to come.” Noel's voice broke even more. He was just trying to tell me something, but something kept choking him the more he expressed.
There was an invisible barrier.
“I—I’m scared. He's calling me—” he choked again. His voice was hollow, echoing I'm the rook like a broken record.
Then his voice began to shift, from the regular human voice to something more deeper, louder, wilder and maybe even inhuman.
I covered my mouth with a trembling hand.
I can't believe this was really happening.
He's possessed.
He really is.
Someone is trying to stop him from speaking. The thing was choking him from within, restraining him from making any form of contact with me.
Tears filled my eyes and I felt my heart would rip out of my chest if it kept pounding this hard.
“What are you talking about? Who's calling you?! Noel, stop! Don't move!” I cried, my steps involuntarily moving forward even though I tried to stop myself from going closer to him.
I was scared of what he could do to me if he stepped closer, but what really scared me more was him jumping off if I didn't make attempts to stop him.
Everything is happening so fast, I don't even have the time to search for my phone to call someone…. anyone…for help.
Suddenly, dark liquid—thick and black like ink—began sliding down Noel's cheeks.
I gasped, horrified by what was happening now.
Noel blinked slowly, unaware of what was dropping from his eyes.
For a split second, the blackness in his eyes flickered—like sometime inside him was struggling…was fighting to get free.
Then his voice cracked again, “I don't want to go…” he whispered weakly, almost to himself but I managed to hear him.
His voice was barely audible. He didn't want to speak at all, but the last part of him that hasn't been possessed yet kept struggling to speak up, to pass a massage, but I wasn't getting anything still.
“Help—help me Lina…” his voice cracked again, small and desperate, like a child lost in a nightmare.
Then, just as quickly, his eyes went black again…very black this time around. “He's calling me, Lina. He's shouting…my name—” he cried.
Just immediately again, the light in the hotel room suddenly began to flicker. It started slowly at first, then it grew violent at some point.
I used the flickering light to my advantage. Since I was scared to move closer to Noel without him noticing, I decided to do it the smart way.
I would take a sleep forward every second the light went off and I would stop and pretend not to have moved once the lights flickered back on.
It was working.
