Epilogue II
Lucifer:
Fallon, my brothers Gabriel and Michael stand by me at the altar while Rafael prepares to officiate my wedding. Looking back, I adjust my tuxedo jacket and look onto our guests. At first, my brothers thought I was mad when I decided to propose to Lana, considering we’re already soulmates and we’re angels, but after I explained that I wanted her to be recognized as mine under every law, they relented.
Lana and I decided to have a small ceremony in our home. We hired a planner who set up a wedding arch covered in sheer drapes and colorful flowers. The warm ocean breeze is gentle, and the platform we set up to seat our desks and the altar keeps the sand off our shoes.
The wooden chairs are spaced out around the platform, with large flower vases on each end. The canopy above the platform keeps the sun from beaming down on the guests’ heads, and the center of the platform is open for the bride and her wedding party.
Azazel and Samael walk up and congratulate us.
Fallon smiles and adjusts his bow tie, “Are you ready to be tied down for the rest of your immortal life, father?” he jests.
I arch a brow and smile, “Do not be jealous, Fallon. You’ll always be the first creature in my life that I eternally tied myself to.”
Michael and Gabriel snicker.
“I never understood this strange human tradition,” Gabriel mutters.
Michael shrugs, “I find it to be quaint. Humans have some belles traditions,” beautiful traditions, “All of the females étaient dedans,” were into it. “In fact, they all became doe-eyed when they saw the rings. Femelles humaines…” human females, “…seem to love these traditions.”
Fallon’s eyes widen, “Oh, bloody hell, you’re right. Bree would not stop speaking about Lana’s ring. She got this very soft look in her eyes.”
Azazel swallows hard and gasps, “Oh fuck me, you’re right. Zoe was also blathering on about the wedding and how excited she was.”
His eyes narrow as he gazes back at me, “You sod, do you know what you’ve set in motion?”
I shrug my shoulder, unrepentant of what I’ve set in motion, “It’s not my fault you’re not brilliant enough to come up with the idea first.”
Azazel sputters, “How was I to know that she wanted to get married like a human?”
“You have to remember, our females were raised to think they were humans. It’s part of who they are.”
Azazel scowls at Samael, “Why didn’t you bloody tell me, mate?”
Samael rolls his eyes, “I didn’t think that I had to. I didn’t need to think about it when I married Galena, and she’s always known that she was an angel. Stop your sulking and propose to her, you wanker!”
I raise an index finger and point at Fallon and Azazel when both males nod. “If either of you gits proposes during my wedding, I will cut your bollocks from your bodies.”
Both males nod again while Samael interjects, “They wouldn’t be so foolish as to surprise their mates without planning their proposal. Women like romance.”
“Sounds like a lot of work for something so simple,” Fallon mutters.
I snicker as I consider how I planned my proposal, “I planned it, and Lana loved how I proposed. She thought it was sexy and romantic.”
We chuckle at the male’s discomforted look.
The violinist begins to play, signaling for everyone to take their place. The crowd grows silent, and I stop beside Rafael as he readies to officiate our ceremony. Who better to officiate a ceremony than the new ruler of heaven? Though Rafael reluctantly accepted the title, we’re still helping him with anything that needs to be done in heaven.
Zoe and Bree walk up the aisle at that moment, wearing their simple bridesmaid's dresses and smile as they pass the crowd. However, my eyes are firmly attached to the beautiful woman in the simple ivory dress. Lana’s hair flutters wildly around her, and her pale skin gleams beneath the sunlight as she strolls up the aisle. Her lace, sleeveless mermaid dress has a v-neck that emphasizes her graceful neck, delicate shoulders and slim frame. She looks like the breathtaking angel that she is.
Pride fills my chest as she stops before me and hands her small bouquet of flowers to her sister.
Rafael stops in front of us and smiles, “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to unite two soulmates in a ceremony of love. Lucifer, take Lana’s hands in yours as you say your vows.”
Lana and I stand before each other and join hands.
Throughout the ceremony, several tears glide down my mate’s beautiful eyes as she listens to me declare my undying love.
Joy grips me at her sweet vows to hold me and love me until the end of time.
Once the ceremony is over, I take her in my arms and seal our bond forever.
Cheers resound, but all I hear is the sound of my mate’s whispered words of love.
As we make our way back to our home to celebrate with our loved ones, I can’t help but think about how fortunate I have become. For so long, I thought I’d never experience true love. But as I look into my mate’s eyes, I know that I'll never be alone again.
