“Mia! Did you just waste your salary on groceries? This girl, I told you there's no need for all this.” Jenny was fuming. She hated it when her friend saw herself as a burden.
“Yeah, don't get angry with me, okay? I needed to stock up the house since I have some cash.” She pleaded, putting down the groceries she had just brought, “Where is Gideon?” She had not heard his voice since she arrived, and it worried her.
“Hmmm, his been sleeping.” Jenny answered while helping Mia to put each grocery in the right place.
“Good. He needs enough of that sleep.” Mia replied in a whisper.
“Mia, can I ask you a question?” Jenny raised her brows.
“Yeah, sure.” Mia was still arranging the groceries.
“Did you spend all your salary on this?” Jenny had a worried look on her face.
“No, I kept some.” Mia's smile kind of made Jenny feel uneasy.
Mia knew her friend would worry and find a way to pay her back if she figured out that all her so-called salary was spent on the groceries. In her heart, she was in a way thankful to the man because the money he left was just enough to solve all her problems. She wasn't expecting that huge amount.
“I'm making dinner.” Mia commented, to which Jenny smiled. She smiled because she loved Mia's cooking so much.
“What are you making?” She asked Mia, inching closer to her.
“Chicken soup. It's one of Gideon's favorite.” She smiled and Jenny nodded.
“Do you need help?” She asked with a sly smile.
“No… you've done enough, sincerely.” Mia pushed Jenny to the sitting room, “Let me handle it.” She smiled as she dashed into the kitchen.
A few minutes into her cooking, Jenny couldn't help going into the kitchen as she drooled over what Mia made.
“You couldn't wait, huh?” Mia smiled as she teased her friend.
“I could, but your food didn't stop calling me. Jenny, Jenny, have a taste of me.” She stood close to Mia and watched her until the food was ready.
“Mmm, something smells delicious.” Gideon walked into the kitchen, still feeling sleepy.
“Just in time, it's time for lunch.” Mia announced and Gideon, who was feeling sleepy, suddenly became awake.
“I'm awake, are you awake?” He went towards Jenny and opened his eyes widely.
Those two were just a bunch of drama queens to Mia. They knew how to light up her world and make it sparkle.
“So, what are we having?” Gideon was about to get the dishes when Mia stopped him.
“You need to rest, no more hard work for you until you've fully recovered.” Mia walked him to a seat and helped him sit down.
“You aren't going to move a muscle. You're going to eat, take your medications and go back to sleep.” Mia explained.
“But…”
“Your sister's right. She cares about the best for you.” Jenny disrupted his argument.
Soon, lunch was served and everyone had more than enough to eat.
“Gideon and I didn't want to tell you this, but… you're such a good cook, I can barely stand up.” Jenny rested her back on the dining chair.
“Totally.” Gideon answered as he joined Jenny to lean back on his seat.
“Fine, its time for your medicine and then more naps. I think the drug makes you sleepy.” She sent him upstairs as went to the kitchen to do the dishes.
After doing the dishes, she took the drug and a glass of water to Jenny's room, where Gideon often slept.
Since she came to live at Jenny's place, she had slept in the sitting room. Jenny slept in her parent's room, while Gideon slept in Jenny's room.
“Here.” She placed the necessary medicines in his hand and handed him the glass of water, which he used in swallowing them.
“Sis…” Gideon called when she was about to leave the room, “Thank you for taking care of me. When I become a billionaire, I'll buy you anything you want.” His words warmed her heart and she came back to him.
“There's no need to thank me, honey. You owe me nothing. It's my responsibility.” She ruffled his hair and kissed his forehead before leaving.
“Is he asleep?” Jenny asked while scrolling through her phone.
“No. Not yet but, soon.” She sat down close to Jenny.
“Thanks again for the meal, but next time, remind me not to eat so much.” Jenny joked and she nodded, laughing.
“Something has been bothering you since this morning, what is it?” She gazed at Mia with sincerity.
“No, it's just Gideon's health.” Mia smiled.
“But he's fine now….” Jenny stressed on her last word.
“Yes…. I won't lie, I really got scared.” She lowered her head, her eyes resting on Jenny's phone, “I think Derek is calling.” Derek was Jenny's boyfriend, and, of course, they looked good together.
Sadly, college made him move away from the state and left Jenny devastated. She wasn't used to him being far away, but now she was coping fine.
Technology has made it so easy for love to grow from anywhere in the world.
“Girl, I've got to go. I'm sorry…. I don't mean to leave like this, but…”
“You can go.” Mia had an encouraging smile on her face.
Jenny smiled back and quickly picked up her phone while running towards the stairs.
“Hey, baby.” Jenny said before entering her room, where Mia could no longer hear their conversation.
Mia sighed in disappointment. She had never been in a relationship, despite her age. She was more like a workaholic, and the only thing close to a relationship with a man was what she had with that stranger.
Her cheek heated up, and she covered her face from embarrassment. The sounds she made that night couldn't stop playing in her ears.
“Oh, gosh.” She got the same feeling in-between her legs from when she was touched by that stranger.
She closed her eyes but couldn't sleep. Her mind revolved around the event that took place last night. She wasn't supposed to enjoy the feeling, but the way he handled her made her feel so safe. He was gentle, though he stunk of alcohol. She never thought having sex would be so enjoyable.
“Stop it, Mia, you're not supposed to even recall that event in your head. Get over it!” She yelled to herself, but the silence in the living room wasn't helping either.
The silence made her recall her hectic journey and how she ended up in his arms.
She couldn't stop blushing, and she was unable to contain herself, she felt excited and aroused.
“Get yourself together, you can't fantasize about a one-time thing. He probably didn't mean what he said about being beautiful.” She tried not to think.
She had missed countless experiences in life, but one pleasurable experience brought everything back to her.
“Mia, get hold of yourself. You need a job, not a man!” She snapped out of the thought, her eyes becoming heavy.
She didn't get enough rest last night and her morning was full of a lot.
She yawned and forced herself to sleep.
