Mia's eyes slowly opened, and she winced due to the pain she felt in-between her legs.
Her mind instantly went to what happened the previous night, and that was when she jumped out of the bed. She looked around the room, but there seemed to be no trace of the man anywhere.
“Hmm? Was I imagining everything that happened?” She asked herself while her eyes scanned the bed.
“What?!” The huge bundle of money on the bed made her yell. Just then, she heard a knock on the door.
“Who is it?” She questioned as she quickly hid the bundle of money under the bedsheets, and sat on it. She covered herself properly and was glad the mask was still on.
“Well, a man I saw asked me to bring breakfast for you.” The cleaner said from outside the door. And Mia's thought instantly went to the man she had something with the previous night.
“Why did he bother?” Her asked in a whisper, “I'm coming.” She used the sheets to wrap herself well and the moment she opened the door, a man was standing there with a tray of food.
“Wow.” She exclaimed, grabbing the food and placing it on the table where the wine she saw when she first entered the room was.
“Thank you so much.” She thanked the man before closing the door. Her back rested on the door, and she wiped her eyes a couple of times to make sure she wasn't dreaming.
She hadn't expected so much from a man, “Maybe he's extremely wealthy.” She thought to herself as she made way to the bathroom. She hadn't planned to remain here, she had situations at hand to handle.
Mia closed her eyes as she let the cold shower cool down the hot blood running in her veins. The person on her mind was her brother, and the moment she came out of the bathroom, she put on her clothes she had worn the previous night before changing into the stripper dress.
Thankfully, she brought her clothes into the room with her last night.
She gazed at the money and couldn't help but feel at peace inside.
Her brother was going to come back home today, and she was going to go grocery shopping to fill up the house. Jenny had been a good friend, but she still felt like a burden to her friend.
After planning what to do with the money, she placed the money into her pouch where her phone and other valuables were, crossing it around her arms before leaving the club.
She didn't even spare the food as she sat to her satisfaction. Maybe what happened made her extremely hungry. Thereafter, she rushed out of the hotel, boarding a cab which took her to the hospital.
“Mia! I've been trying your lines since morning, what happened?” Jenny ran to hug Mia as she spoke.
“Well, my phone was on silent. Sorry. But why the call, did anything happen to…” her eyes darted around, however, the atmosphere of the hospital looked calm.
“No, I just wanted to check up on the latest employee.” Jenny teased, and Mia let out a sigh of relief.
“Don't do that, you scared me.” Mia complained, holding her chest in the process.
“I'm sorry, you shouldn't be scared, Gideon is fine. He asked about you last night, and I told him you got the job.” Jenny smiled, putting Mia in an awkward situation.
“Yeah.” Mia itched her head, lying to her friend didn't make her feel comfortable at all.
“I've got to go see the doctor. Gideon will be released soon so, I've to make payment for the expenses.” Mia commented and was about to walk away when Jenny pulled her back.
“Where did you get the money? I thought you only started working yesterday?” She squinted her eyes in a suspicious manner, and Mai could feel her stomach clenched in fear.
“Ummm…oh, I didn't tell you about this.” Mia's eyes darted around as she looked for a lie.
“I begged my boss for an advance payment and surprisingly, he agreed.” She itched her head with her fingers crossed behind her back as she hopped, Jenny fell for her lies.
“Wow, that's great. He must really be a good man.” Jenny praised, and all Mia could do was nod in response.
“I'll go to the doctor now. When the discharge has been taken care of, you'll take Gideon home, and I'll get the drug prescription from the pharmacy.” She told Jenny before walking away.
“Miss…” The doctor tried to get her name but had forgotten. There were probably many patients that he couldn't memorize everyone's name.
“Mai.” She helped him.
“Yes. Of course. My apologies… Ermm… Miss Mia. Are you ready for your brother's discharge?” He asked, and Mia nodded.
“Yes, I'll also collect the drug prescription.” She added, which made the doctor pick up a pen and a piece of paper as he wrote it down.
“Here it is.” He handed the paper to her which contained the drugs and how it should be taken.
“What about the payment?” Mia asked as she read through the paper given to her.
“You'll go to the account office. Once payment is made, return with the receipt, so you can sign the discharge papers.” The doctor spoke, and Mia didn't waste time running to the account office to clear things up.
“Payment for Gideon.” The account officer typed in the name and surname in the computer while reading out but not loud.
“Yes, the total is ten thousand dollars.” She spoke with a meek smile.
Without wasting time, Mia placed her hands into the pouch and counted the amount.
“Here.” She handed it to the account manager, who placed it into a machine for proper check.
“Okay!” The nice accountant said before going to prepare her receipt.
“Here you go.” She handed the receipt to Mia, who thanked her before hurrying back to the doctor's office.
“Oh, you're back.” The doctor spoke as he gestured to her to sit.
“These are the discharge papers. You just need to sign here.” He pointed to a blank place on the paper, “And here.” He pointed to another place, handling her a pen, so she could sign the papers.
Mia signed the papers and thanked the doctor, but as she was about to leave, he gave her medical advice.
“Also remember to give him healthy food, mainly fruits and vegetables, and avoid oily things. And keep him away from smoke.” He reminded.
“Thank you, sir.” she showed her gratitude to the doctor before going to see Gideon, who was talking to Jenny.
“Sis!” He exclaimed with happiness, “Last night, Jenny told me you got the job.” His smile warmed Mia's heart.
“If only he knew what you did to get this money.” Mia gulped down the uneasiness she felt.
“Y…es.” She stammered and gave a nervous laugh.
“Jenny would take you home, I have to rush to the pharmacy to get the drugs the doctor prescribed.” She assured him she would be back home on-time, too.
“Okay, sis, I guess we'll see you later.” Gideon spoke with a smile, and she nodded as she walked out of the ward, she felt a sharp sting in her heart.
She had never lied to Gideon or her best friend before, but what was hurting her was the fact that she kept repeating the lie.
How could she face it if her friend or her brother who looked up to her found out that she sold her body for money?
“No, this is going to be your secret, Mai.” She whispered to herself as she boarded a taxi.
“Where are you going, ma'am?” The driver asked.
“Any pharmacy nearby.” She replied, trying to put her mind straight and get things right..
She wasn't going to be hard on herself because she was doing this for her brother. She would rather die than see her brother suffer.
“We're here, ma'am.” The driver spoke, snapping her out of her thoughts. She hadn't realized how long she had been in the cab because she had been in thought all the while.
“Thank you.” She gave the driver his fare before walking into the pharmacy.
“Good day, Miss.” A young-looking man who was wearing a white lab coat spoke to her, “What can I help you with?” He asked with a smile.
“Umm… this is the doctor's prescription.” She handed the paper to him, and she waited while he went to bring the recommended drugs.
“That would be three hundred dollars.” He spoke to her, and she jolted out of her thoughts again.
She hadn't been herself ever since last night's incident, but she was trying her best to shove it off her shoulders.
“Thank you.” She collected the drugs and made the payment.
“Next, we have the grocery store.” She didn't tell Jenny about this, but it was the only way she could show Jenny her appreciation.
Mia was someone who was used to being independent, but staying with Jenny, even if Jenny was her best friend, made her feel like a burden.
Going into the store, she picked food items she knew would be needed in the house as she thought of also looking for another job.
She couldn't go on doing that kind of job and having different men explore her body.
Mia did what she did because she was desperate, but that didn't mean she was going to repeat such a thing because she required assistance.
“I'll secretly look for another job.” She sighed as she walked out of the grocery store with two shopping bags and a small one that contained the drugs she bought.
