Chapter 18: The Game Escalates

Lia's eyes locked onto Liam's, a spark of determination igniting. "We need to take them down."

Liam's gaze was like steel, his voice low. "We will. But we need proof."

Robert nodded, his expression serious. "I’m working on it. But we need to be careful. Merida’s not someone to mess with."

Lia's smile was cold, calculated. "I’m not afraid of her."

Liam's eyes seemed to search hers. "You should be. She’s playing a dangerous game."

The bar was quiet, the shadows dancing on the walls. Lia's phone buzzed… an unknown number. She answered, her voice icy. "Who is this?"

The voice on the other end was smooth, calculated. "Lia, darling. It’s Merida."

Lia's grip on the phone tightened. "What do you want?"

Merida's laughter was like silk. "Oh, I think you know. You’re in over your head, Lia."

Liam's eyes narrowed, his voice low. "Let me talk to her."

Lia handed him the phone, her gaze locked onto his. Liam's voice was firm. "Merida, back off."

Merida's voice was like a whip crack. "Oh, Liam. You’re so predictable."

The conversation ended, Liam's expression grim. "She’s got a plan. And we need to be ready."

Robert nodded, his eyes serious. "I’ll dig deeper. Find her angle."

Lia's voice was firm. "I want to meet her. Face-to-face."

Liam's gaze was intense. "No way. It’s too risky."

Lia's smile was cold. "I’m not hiding. I’m fighting."

The night was dark, the city lights blinking like stars. The game was on, and Lia was ready.

…

Lia's determination hung in the air, a challenge thrown. "I want to meet her. Face-to-face."

Liam's expression was a mix of concern and frustration. "Lia, it's a bad idea. We don't know what she's planning."

Lia's gaze was steady, her voice firm. "That's exactly why I need to meet her. To find out."

The room was tense, the shadows dancing on the walls. Robert's voice was low. "Actually, meeting her might be a good idea. We can use it to our advantage."

Liam's eyes narrowed. "How?"

Robert's smile was calculated. "We set it up, make it look like Lia's willing to play ball. Meanwhile, we dig deeper, find her weaknesses."

Lia nodded, a plan forming. "I'll play along. Set it up."

Merida chose?"

Merida's voice was like silk. "Lia, darling. I'm so glad you agreed to meet."

Lia's smile was cold. "Cut the act, Merida. What do you want?"

The meeting was set at an abandoned warehouse on the outskirts of the city. Lia arrived, Liam and Robert watching from the shadows.

Merida was already there, her eyes gleaming. "Lia, you look...determined."

Lia's gaze was icy. "I want out. Tell me what you want."

Merida laughed, a sound that sent shivers down Lia's spine. "Oh, Lia. I want it all. The company, the power...and Liam."

Lia's expression was a mask. "You’ll never have him."

Merida's smile was cruel. "We’ll see about that."

The air was thick with tension, the shadows closing in. Liam's voice was low in Lia's ear, a warning. "Be careful."

Lia nodded, her eyes locked onto Merida's. The game was on, and only one could win.

…

The tension hung like a fog, Lia's gaze locked onto Merida's. "You think you can take everything from me?"

Merida's laughter was a cold, calculated sound. "I don't think, Lia. I know."

Lia's smile was a whip crack. "You’re forgetting. I’m not the same person you met before."

Merida's eyes gleamed, a spark of interest igniting. "Oh? What’s changed?"

Lia leaned in, her voice low. "I’ve changed. And I’m not playing games."

The air was thick with unspoken challenges. Merida's gaze flicked to Liam, watching from the shadows. "You’re playing with fire, Lia. You and Liam. He’s not who you think he is."

Lia's expression was a mask, but her heart skipped a beat. "What do you mean?"

Merida's smile was cruel. "Ask him about his deal with Robert. About why he’s really helping you."

Lia's mind was racing, her eyes darting to Liam. What deal?

Liam's expression was grim, his eyes locked onto Merida's. "Enough, Merida."

Merida laughed, backing away. "The gauntlet’s thrown, Lia. Let’s see how you play."

The shadows swallowed her, leaving Lia reeling. What just happened?

Liam approached, his eyes searching. "Lia, it’s not what it sounds like."

Lia's voice was barely above a whisper. "What deal, Liam?"

The night was dark, the city lights blinking like stars. Liam's gaze was intense. "I’ll explain. But trust me."

Lia's heart was pounding, her mind racing. Could she trust him?
