Chapter 8: Am I Also a Part of Your Couple's Play?

Isaac said, "I remember there are cameras all over Century Square."

Leo didn't waste any time and sent someone to get the footage.

The surveillance video showed everything clearly: the salesperson harassing Nora and then pushing her wheelchair.

The sales clerk's face lost all color and got fired instantly. Leo reported her to headquarters to make sure she was blacklisted from the Porter Group for good.

Kalista also got blacklisted from Century Square and was banned from entering ever again.

Nora sat in her wheelchair, feeling a mix of emotions as she watched everything unfold.

She had always wished for someone to stand up for her, but it never happened. Now, this stranger Steve, who she barely knew, was defending her without hesitation. But...

When Isaac tried to push her wheelchair, she brushed his hand away.

Isaac asked, "What's wrong? Is there something else you want to buy?"

The pearl necklace set had been packed up and delivered to Nora as an apology gift by Leo just now.

Nora asked, "No, Steve, what's your relationship with Isaac?"

Even though she couldn't do much about what just happened, she could tell Steve had some serious pull at Century Square.

Leo and the other managers knew about Kalista and Isaac's relationship, but they still blacklisted Kalista out of respect for Steve.

She already suspected Steve wasn't just some ordinary guy. Since he looked so much like Isaac, she couldn't help but wonder.

"What relationship could I have with him? I just happen to know the manager here, and he owes me a favor," Isaac said, his eyes flickering as he made up an excuse.

Nora looked at him closely, "Are you saying Mr. Cook would risk offending Isaac just to repay a favor to you? Steve, I'm not stupid. I hope you can tell me the truth."

Isaac knew his story didn't add up, but he didn't know how to explain.

At that moment, Nora cautiously asked, "Steve, are you an illegitimate child of the Porter family?"

Where did she get that idea? But he had no better excuse, so he decided to test her. "What if I am? Would you look down on me because of my identity?"

Nora's eyes showed her inner conflict. She hated cheaters because her marriage fell apart thanks to Kalista. But she also knew kids weren't to blame, and there might be reasons behind the elders' actions that she couldn't easily judge.

After thinking for a moment, she decided to focus on what mattered most to her. "Steve, I don't care about your identity, but if you're trying to get close to me to find leverage or weaknesses against Isaac, I advise you to give up."

"Oh? Why?" Isaac was intrigued, "Didn't you say he can't tell right from wrong? Don't you want to bring him down?"

Sensing Steve's interest, Nora frowned and silently calculated how to terminate their private agreement.

Nora said seriously, "I'm not going to lie to you, Steve. I like Isaac. The reason I hired you as my male prostitute is because you look so much like him. So I won't help you do anything to harm Isaac. Our relationship ends here."

Seeing the guarded look on Nora's face, Isaac felt a whirlwind of emotions.

She liked him? How could that be!

Watching Nora awkwardly maneuver her wheelchair away, Isaac was torn about whether to follow her.

He couldn't figure out why Nora was pretending to like Isaac in front of "Steve." What was she gaining from this? He was completely baffled, but before he could find an answer, he heard a familiar voice. "Nora, what are you doing here?"

Nora looked up and saw Harold Whitaker, who carried the air of affluence, walking towards her. She felt somewhat embarrassed.

"I wasn't sure it was you when I saw the wheelchair. Are you injured?"

Nora politely said, "Thanks for your concern, Harold. It's just a minor bruise. I'll be fine after some rest."

Harold was Isaac's cousin. After Nora married Isaac, Harold quite liked her as a sister-in-law and often helped her out.

Now that she and Isaac were divorced, and because of Katie's birthday party, they couldn't reveal the news yet. Seeing Harold made Nora feel a bit awkward.

At this moment, Isaac also walked over.

Harold immediately recognized him.

The two had been close since childhood; they had grown bored of playing with masks long ago. He never expected to see Isaac wearing one again.

Harold hesitated, "You..."

Nora asked, "Harold, do you know this person?"

Seeing Harold's familiar expression towards Isaac, Nora's expression became subtle.

Steve was an illegitimate child, and Harold knew about his existence but didn't detest him. Could it be that Harold also wanted to go against Isaac?

As the Porter Group's assets were vast, Nora had no doubt about the complexity of human nature.

Her eyes turned sharp as she looked at Harold. "Harold, I don't care what your relationship with him is, but please don't harm Isaac, or I won't stand by and do nothing."

After saying that, Nora clumsily turned her wheelchair, intending to leave.

What on earth was going on? Harold silently mouthed to Isaac.

At first, he thought Isaac was playing some role-playing game with Nora. But it turned out Nora hadn't recognized Isaac's identity at all?

Isaac rubbed his temples.

Ahead, Nora accidentally pinched her hand with the wheelchair wheel and let out a cry of pain.

Seeing this, Isaac became anxious as he quickly gestured to Harold to keep quiet. Then he whispered to Harold, "This is complicated. Be careful not to reveal my identity in front of Nora. I'll explain everything to you later."

After saying that, Isaac hurriedly chased after Nora in the wheelchair.

Nora was confused and asked, "Why are you following me again? Didn't I say our relationship is over?" She clutched her injured hand, her eyes red.

Isaac sighed and explained helplessly. "It's not what you think. Can I explain when we get back?"

Nora didn't relent, just stared at him.

Isaac softened his tone, "Trust me this once. At least let me take you home. It's not convenient for you to be outside like this."

After much persuasion, Nora finally agreed to go home and listen to Steve's explanation.

Behind them, Harold, who had secretly listened to everything, couldn't help but roll his eyes.

He took out his phone and sent a message to Isaac: [Am I part of your couple's play too?]

The reply came quickly.

Harold lit up his phone screen and saw two words: [Get lost.]
