Chapter 17: Pleading for Kalista

Kalista was lying in the hospital bed, tears streaming down her face. "Isaac, I don't remember anything! It must be Nora who fabricated the evidence!" She clung to Isaac's hand, her eyes pleading.

Isaac stood there, cold and distant.

He wasn't sure if Kalista had truly lost her memory, but he knew Nora had been wronged.

Just as he was about to leave to find Nora as Steve, the police showed up. "Ms. Garcia, the evidence against you for harming Ms. Foster is solid. The victim wants an immediate investigation. We need you to come with us to the station."

Kalista's face went white. "No! I can't go, Isaac. I really don't know what happened!"

The officer sighed. "Ms. Garcia, whether you remember or not doesn't change the fact that you committed the assault. We'll also look into Mandy's bribery and false testimony. We hope you're not involved with her. Otherwise, you'll be held accountable of all the crimes according to the law."

With that, the officers moved to take her away.

Isaac, with a sense of irritation, raised his hand to stop them. "Wait, officers! Is there any way to avoid filing a case?"

The officer, knowing Isaac was the heir to the Porter Group, decided to cut him some slack. "Since there were no major injuries, if Ms. Foster doesn't press charges, Ms. Garcia won't be investigated. If the case can be settled privately, it would be easier for us too."

Isaac nodded. "Alright, Kalista's injured and might not be able to leave the hospital right now. Can we delay the case a bit?"

The officer replied, "That's fine, Mr. Porter. We'll need a doctor's note later."

Isaac said, "Okay, I'll arrange it."

After the officers left, they didn't even post a guard at the door out of respect for Isaac.

Isaac turned back to see Kalista's red eyes and tense face, feeling a bit impatient. "Well, Kalista, don't be scared. I'll protect you." He gently patted her back, trying to comfort her.

"Isaac, no one believes me. I only have you." Kalista clung to his hand.

Isaac frowned and pulled away. "Kalista, you need to rest. I have to go."

Kalista yelled, "Isaac, don't leave! Are you going to find Nora? I don't want that! Come back!"

Kalista went crazy, only knew she had lost and couldn't let Isaac reconcile with Nora. She struggled desperately on the bed.

Wesley, unable to hold her back, looked to Isaac for help. "I can't hold Ms. Garcia alone, Mr. Porter."

Isaac said calmly, "Then have the doctor give her a sedative."

Isaac slammed the door as he left, leaving Kalista thrashing in the room.

Steve had no connection to Kalista, so Isaac couldn't use his identity as Steve to question Nora about her lawsuit against Kalista. Therefore, he went directly to Nora's room downstairs.

But before he could step inside, he saw Nora leaning into Mortimer's arms.

Isaac's temper flared, and he kicked the door open violently without knocking.

The loud bang startled both Nora and Mortimer. Mortimer stood up and smiled at Isaac when their gaze met.

He and Isaac had been best friends, but after an accident four years ago, Mortimer had kept his distance on purpose.

Seeing Isaac again, he instinctively smiled and greeted him. However, Isaac perceived it as a provocation and responded by punching him in the face.

As Mortimer hit the ground, Nora shouted, "Isaac! What are you doing?"

Isaac snapped, "I'm showing you two cheaters some consequences!"

His eyes were blazing with anger as he glared at Nora. "Nora, are you so desperate for a man that you're hooking up with him in broad daylight? Can't wait to get back with your old flame?"

It took Nora a while to realize Isaac had totally misunderstood the situation.

When she had bent down to drink water, Mortimer saw a spider on her head and stood up to help. Her hair got tangled in his shirt button, and just as he was trying to untangle it, Isaac barged in.

Nora wanted to explain, but then she saw the lipstick mark Kalista had left on Isaac's white shirt, and her eyes filled with tears. "What does it matter to you? Isaac, don't forget we're divorced! Even if I have ten lovers, it's none of your business!"

Isaac was livid. He grabbed Mortimer's collar, ready to punch him again, but Nora held him back. "Isaac, enough! This is a hospital! Don't go too far!"

Nora, with her injured leg, struggled to stop Isaac, almost falling over. Mortimer, seeing this, wanted to help but was stopped by Isaac's glare.

Isaac threatened, "Don't touch her! If you do, I'll make sure you regret it!"

Isaac gripped Nora's arm tightly.

Mortimer, seeing Nora wince in pain, backed off. "Alright, I won't touch her, but stop gribbing her with such force. She's in pain."

Isaac loosened his grip and pushed Nora back onto the bed, then barked at Mortimer, "Get out."

Mortimer, knowing Isaac well, guessed he had something to say to Nora and decided to leave.

Mortimer said, "Alright, you two have a good talk . I'll take my leave."

Isaac snarled, "Get out now!"

Mortimer didn't mind Isaac's temper and closed the door behind him.

Nora, however, wasn't as patient, glaring at Isaac with red eyes. "Mr. Porter, what do you want? Didn't we agree to stay out of each other's lives after the divorce?"

Isaac bit his lip, holding back his urge to question her about Mortimer, and got to the point. "I heard from the police that you want to hold Kalista accountable."

Nora immediately understood Isaac's intention. She looked at him in disbelief. "Isaac, are you here to plead for Kalista? Don't you know she tried to kill me? You want me to forgive a murderer?"

Isaac frowned. "Don't say it so harshly. She didn't try to kill you."
