Chapter 86

“You wouldn’t do that, you’re bluffing. You’re just trying to get me to tell you what you want to know. I’ve worked for you for years and I know what kind of person you are Mrs. Lexington. You’d never kill innocent people just to get back at me.” I give her a mischievous smile. She cringes.

“You have no idea the lengths that I will go to when someone puts my family in danger. You and your boss messed with the wrong family and you both will pay for the mistake. The offer to help you and your family is now off the table. I’m not going to keep playing with you any longer. It is obvious that you don’t really want to help your family otherwise you would have taken my offer. Mr. Fontenot, do what you have to do to get the information out of her. We’ve wasted enough time on her. I’m done playing nice.”

“Yes ma’am. Thomas, go and get the equipment ready for the interrogation.”

Now she is looking around as the men start bringing in what looks like a tool box only a lot bigger. When they open it the contents are things that I’ve never seen before and some look a bit recognizable like the knives, hammers, and hooks. I watch her as her eyes grow wider and wider as they take certain tools out of the box. I look back at her and she is looking at me with even more shock in her eyes than before, and I start to think that maybe I don’t have to do this to her.

“You can save yourself plenty of pain Alissa if you would just cooperate. Tell us what we need to know and the toolbox will disappear.” She just stares at me and then puts her head down and I see a tear drop down her cheek.

“I can’t help you.” I sigh and shake my head.

“Proceed as planned then Mr. Fontenot.”

“Why are you doing this to me?” I turn back and look at her one last time.

“You did this to yourself.” I turn towards the stairs and begin walking up them. Right before I close the door, I hear an ear-splitting scream come from her.

“Well maybe she’ll be more willing to help after Mr. Fontenot is done with her.”

I spend the rest of the morning with the family and then after lunch we all head back to the hospital. My wife is still stable but unconscious, although the doctor does give us some great news, today we can take Shaye home. Our family is very excited about that, but at the same time we’re still sad because my wife can’t come home just yet. My mother-in-law keeps telling us to pray and have faith that she’ll wake up soon, but that is getting harder and harder to do honestly. Since all of this happened all I’ve been doing is praying for my family and their safety, but it seems like it is not working.

“Jay, I know that it may seem like nothing is going right, but just keep praying and trusting that God will keep us and get us through all of this no matter what we may think.” My mother-in-law just said that to me out of the blue, but it was what I needed to hear at the time. I took a deep breath and gave her a hug while thanking her.

After spending a couple of hours with my wife, I had to leave so that I could feed my son his dinner and I also had to check to see if Mr. Fontenot made any progress with Alissa. We get home and get Shaye settled in the den while my mother-in-law cooks dinner. She insisted on cooking tonight and nobody objected. She’s a great cook and I especially love her lemon pound cake. I ask if she wants any help in the kitchen, but she tells me to just go and relax with everyone else and to tell them that dinner should be ready in an hour. I do as she asks and then take Nicholas upstairs for his bath. Thirty minutes later he’s clean and dressed for bed and we’re waiting in the living room for dinner to be ready. Nicholas is telling his aunt everything that he’s been doing while she was away and she is listening intently to him. He missed his aunt and I know that he misses his mother even more. My blood starts to boil knowing that my son is in pain because first his sister is kidnapped and now his mother is lying unconscious in a hospital. There’s someone in my basement that can at least help with one of those problems but her selfish ass isn’t trying to help, well she wasn’t before I let anyway. While I wait for dinner to be finished, maybe I should check and see if Mr. Fontenot has made any progress in getting Alissa to talk.

“If you all will excuse me, I have to check in with the security team downstairs. I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

None of them are really paying much attention to me right now because they are all talking to Shaye and making sure that she’s comfortable. That works out well for me because now I don’t have to answer any questions about why I’ve been checking in with the security team so much more now. I don’t think that I could lie to any of them without giving anything away right now and I can’t afford to say anything and give them false hope. This lead may not lead to anything. I haven’t even told them that I talked to Alexa the other day. I’m hoping that my baby girl is okay. One way or another I am going to get my baby girl back and soon. I’ve had enough of not having my family together.

Mr. Fontenot is sitting down at the head of the table going over some papers when I arrive in the basement. He stands up when I approach and starts to move to another seat but I tell him to stay where he is and sit down in the chair next to him. There is a faint metallic smell in the air and I know that it is blood but I don’t look at the cage just yet. He tells me that she did end up giving some information but not enough to find or even know who kidnapped my daughter. She knows something but she is still too scared to tell us who that person is or where they are hiding. He then tells me that Carl did manage to trace that number and get a general location of where the call came from, but he’s still trying to narrow it down some more before they take a team out there. I agree with them, because the last thing we need is to be running around losing even more time. When we go after her I want it to be the exact location and not some wild goose chase. I decide not to even look at or talk to Alissa and just head back upstairs. Once I reach the top, I remember to tell them that they can come up for dinner if they’re hungry. They thank me for the offer and tell me that they already ate dinner.
