Chapter 243
The Martinez Manor.
Remy arrived with Flora and Amara.
In the foyer, Remy stated their purpose and then stood waiting for Sawyer's reply.
As time ticked by, Flora's face grew dark. She had never been treated with such disdain. "What is the meaning of this, just leaving us standing here to wait?"
"I think we should just go back. Our Jenkins family has already shown sincerity. The Martinez family is pushing their luck," Amara chimed in, agreeing with Flora.
Everyone in their circle knew that Sawyer doted on and protected his only grandson, Griffin.
Even thinking about it, Amara knew Sawyer wouldn't give her a pleasant reception.
Remy also knew that Sawyer was deliberately making things difficult for them.
Still, she reminded Flora, "Amara almost caused the Martinez family to lose its heir. We've only been standing at the Martinez Manor's entrance for a while, and you can't take it anymore?"
"I didn't say anything." Flora rolled her eyes at Remy, dissatisfied.
The three of them waited in the foyer for almost an hour before the Martinez Manor's butler finally arrived, leading them towards the tea room.
At that moment, in the tea room, Howard was studying a chess manual with Sawyer.
Seeing Howard there, Remy felt a sense of reassurance.
"Howard!" Amara's face lit up with joy when she saw him.
But Howard didn't even give her a second glance, only saying to Sawyer, "Since Mr. Martinez has distinguished guests, I won't disturb you."
Howard made a move to get up but was stopped by Sawyer. "They're hardly distinguished guests."
Sawyer's attitude was cold, not even offering them a seat.
Flora's face turned ugly. For years, relying on the Jenkins family's backing, she had been used to being on a pedestal. She had never been treated with such coldness. Amara's legs were also aching from standing, and she secretly tugged at Flora's sleeve.
"Mr. Sawyer Martinez, what happened before was indeed Amara's fault. We are here today specifically to bring Amara to apologize." Remy said slowly.
"Apologize?" Sawyer glanced at the butler beside him.
The butler understood and brought over a glass of whiskey, which looked identical to the one Griffin had drunk that night.
"Since the Jenkins family wants to apologize, you must show sincerity." Sawyer said coldly.
"I..." Amara grew anxious and was about to argue when Remy slapped her across the face.
"You hit me?" Amara stared at Remy in disbelief.
Flora, who wouldn't even touch her precious daughter's finger, couldn't sit still seeing her slapped in public.
She was about to lash out but was stopped by a look from Remy.
Flora knew that if things went wrong today, she and Amara would have no status in the Jenkins family from now on.
"Do you really think my Martinez family would do something as shameless as your Jenkins family?" Sawyer snorted, picked up the glass of whiskey, took a small sip, and then said to the butler, "Go, call Griffin over."
"Yes." the butler replied and left the tea room.
"Howard, come, let's finish this game of chess." Sawyer beckoned Howard, completely ignoring the Jenkins family.
Another half an hour passed before the gentle-tempered Griffin appeared at the tea room door. "Grandpa, you were looking for me?"
Griffin ignored the three from the Jenkins family and looked at Sawyer.
Howard placed the last chess piece on the corner of the board, a look of annoyance on his face. "I lost."
"You were willing to let me win today." Sawyer picked up the teacup beside him and took a sip.
He then looked at the newly arrived Griffin. "Ms. Amara Jenkins said she wants to apologize to you in person."
At this, Griffin's gaze finally fell on Amara.
Amara's face was pale, and she had lost some weight. It seemed she hadn't had an easy time at home lately.
Griffin looked up, his gaze slowly falling on Howard. "Howard, did you come today because you were worried I would make things difficult for Ms. Amara Jenkins?"
Griffin had naturally heard about Amara pestering Howard.
This time, he had originally planned to make the Jenkins family never recover.
However, Howard had insisted on interfering, messing up his plans.
So, it was only natural for him to say a few sarcastic words to Howard.
"Howard..." Griffin's words didn't provoke Howard, but Amara took them seriously.
She looked at Howard with a joyful expression, a hint of coquettishness in her eyes. "Howard, I knew..."
"Griffin, you really know how to joke. I'm willing to be a lobbyist for the Jenkins family, naturally for my wife's sake." Howard interrupted Amara before she could finish, pouring another bucket of cold water on her.
"Since Mr. Miller is your lobbyist, I will not pursue this matter further." Griffin picked up his teacup and took a small sip of tea.
A weight was finally lifted from Remy's heart, and she looked at Howard with gratitude.
When leaving the Martinez Manor.
Remy called out to Howard. "Thank you!"
In fact, Howard didn't have to come today.
"You're too kind, Ms. Jenkins. Just don't forget what you promised me." Howard said, then turned and got into his Maybach.
The Jenkins Family Mansion.
When Remy and the others returned, Ryder was already waiting in the hall.
"Was it successful?" Ryder asked nervously when he saw Remy return.
Remy nodded. "Thanks to Howard."
"Remy, you did very well today." Ryder praised.
Flora, on the side, couldn't help but point at the slap mark on Amara's face. "Dad, look at Amara's face..."
On the way back, Remy had already explained it to Flora.
That slap was just for show for Sawyer.
However, Flora was now making a big deal out of it again.
"It's just a slap. Is it more important than a multi-billion dollar business?" Ryder said with a cold face.
Flora didn't dare to say another word.
Back in her room, Remy revised the agreement she had prepared earlier.
Sloane stared at Remy, who was seriously revising the contract, and couldn't help but ask, "Mom, are you really planning to let Chloe go to your studio?"
Without even hesitating, Remy nodded firmly. "Ms. Brown is a rare talent with a limitless future."
Remy's eyes were full of admiration for Chloe and the joy of their upcoming collaboration, completely oblivious to the coldness that flickered in Sloane's eyes.
Soon, Chloe received a call from Remy.
"Ms. Jenkins?" Chloe was a little surprised.
She had thought that after she had rejected Remy last time, Remy would not contact her again.
But she didn't expect that after a few days, Remy would call her again.
"Is it convenient to meet?" Remy's voice on the other end of the line was still gentle.
"Okay," after a moment's hesitation, Chloe agreed.
"Good, I'll send you the time and address in a bit."
