Suffocating Silence

Suffocating Silence
Emily’s POV

I stood frozen, my heart pounding in my chest, the thud echoing in my ears as the reality of the moment hit me like a physical blow.
“I told you I’d give you the world,” Marco whispered, his breath hot against my ear. The words felt like a sinister promise, his voice laced with something I couldn’t quite place.
I didn’t know if it was the suffocating weight of the crowd bowing before me or the crushing pressure of his words that shattered the fragile remains of my composure. My vision blurred, the world spinning out of control. Before I could brace myself, my legs gave way, and the last thing I felt was the cold, unforgiving floor.
I drifted in a haze, caught between consciousness and unconsciousness. Marco’s frantic voice cut through the fog, sharp, panicked, screaming for a doctor. The world fragmented into flashes of light and shadow, distant like I was trapped in a dream. I reached for awareness, but the darkness was too strong, pulling me deeper into the void.
Then, everything slipped away entirely. Darkness. Suffocating me, endless.

I had no sense of time, no idea how long I’d been unconscious, but when I finally managed to open my eyes, the sterile white light of a hospital room greeted me. My head throbbed, and my body felt weak and disoriented.
“Where am I?” I gasped, panic surging in my chest as I scanned the unfamiliar surroundings. My breath quickened with fear and confusion.
“At Marino’s private hospital,” a woman in a white coat said, her voice soothing, but with an undeniable authority. She tried to calm me, but the panic clawing at my chest refused to loosen its grip.
“I need to leave. I need to get out of here. You have to help me,” I pleaded, my voice trembling, desperate.
The doctor’s expression softened, but her eyes held something I couldn’t decipher. “I’m sorry, I can’t. I’ll go get Don Marco.”
I flinched at the mention of his name. It was like a slap to my already bruised spirit. I was about to protest, but she turned and walked out, leaving me alone with my frantic heartbeat.
With a surge of panic, I tried to rise, to escape before she returned. But just as I was about to move, the door opened, and Marco walked in, the doctor trailing behind him.
The moment he saw me, his eyes lit up with relief, and he rushed to my side, his hands reaching for me. “Thank goodness, you’re okay,” he said, his voice laced with feigned warmth. “You nearly gave me a heart attack.”
He pressed a kiss to my forehead, but as his lips touched my skin, I recoiled instinctively, the touch burning.
For a fraction of a second, Marco’s eyes darkened, his expression faltering. But it was gone as quickly as it had come. He stepped back, masking his brief slip with a forced composure, and turned to the doctor. His tone was sharp and commanding.
“So, what’s wrong with her? Why did she faint?” Marco’s voice sliced through the air, cutting with a sharpness that made me shudder.
The doctor’s gaze lingered on me for a beat too long, her eyes filled with something... concern? Pity? I couldn’t tell. But then she spoke, her voice firm. “Don Marco, with all due respect, you shouldn’t have allowed her to drink, especially in her condition. The alcohol, combined with the stress and exhaustion… It’s no surprise she collapsed.”
Her words hit me like a shockwave, freezing me in place. My mind spun, emotions colliding in a whirlwind. But what made my heart drop was the look on Marco’s face. The first flicker of unease, of anger, was unmistakable.
He didn’t like being questioned. I could see his jaw tighten, his fingers twitching as if holding onto the last shred of control.
“Condition? What condition?” Marco’s voice was tight, the facade of composure slipping just enough for me to catch it. His gaze flicked between the doctor and me, darkening with something far more dangerous.
The doctor met his stare with calm authority. “She’s pregnant... Don Marco.”
The words hung in the air, suffocating the room. My heart slammed against my chest. Pregnant... I was carrying Jason's child. The reality hit me like a tidal wave: confusion, fear, happiness, a glimmer of something else, something I wasn’t ready to confront.
Marco’s expression shifted. First, disbelief, then fury. His eyes hardened, his jaw clenched, and before I could react, his hand shot out, grabbing me by the throat. His fingers tightened around my neck with such force that my breath was stolen from me.
The world spun as his face loomed inches from mine, his hot breath grazing my skin. “So you let him take your body?” His voice was low, venomous. The words struck deep, cold dread creeping through my veins.
I wanted to scream. I wanted to push him away. But I couldn’t. Not now. Not with everything on the line. The weight of the situation pressed down on me, every choice carrying consequences that stretched far beyond my own life.
The doctor’s voice trembled as she stepped forward, trying to intervene. “Don Marco, please,” she said, her hands shaking as she reached for his arm. “This is unnecessary. She’s...”
Marco didn’t listen. He pushed the doctor away. His eyes never left mine, burning with accusation, with rage. The doctor’s pleas were lost in the storm he had unleashed.
I had no choice but to swallow my defiance. I couldn’t afford anger, rebellion—not now. Not with my unborn child depending on me.
Swallowing hard, I let the silence stretch, hoping somehow that he would see something in my eyes, something that would make him release me. But it wasn’t mercy he desired. It was a submission.
“Please...” The word escaped me, a whisper of surrender, bitter against the fear in my chest.
The tension in the room was thick, suffocating. Then, Marco finally released his grip. I gasped for air, my skin burning where he had touched me.
His gaze shifted, cold and commanding. He turned to the doctor. “Get rid of it,” he said, his voice devoid of any hesitation or human feelings, as though it were the simplest request in the world.
The world around me blurred. The words slammed into me with the force of a wrecking ball. “Get rid of it…” he repeated, his eyes cold. “I want that child gone.”
The doctor’s eyes widened, but she nodded quickly, fear flickering across her face.
I felt the walls of the room close in on me, the weight of his words settling like a heavy stone in my chest. Marco was taking control of everything, deciding the fate of something that was mine....My child.
