Chapter 132: Moonlight and Promises

Emily’s POV

Layla moved swiftly, opening the door to reveal Anna stepping inside with a huge smile.

“The Don is here for you,” Anna said, giggling, almost too excited. “He’s waiting downstairs.”

I nodded, a smile playing at the corners of my lips, though my heart was pounding, each beat loud and erratic in my chest.

“She’ll be right there,” Layla replied, her tone casual, laced with a hint of playfulness. Anna shot her a knowing wink, a smile curling at the corners of her lips before she turned and walked out.

As the door clicked shut, Layla turned to me, her expression softening. She picked up my purse and handed it to me. “Have fun,” she said, her voice a mix of encouragement and something more.

I nodded, smiled, and walked out of the room. As I descended the stairs, my heart did a dizzying 360 in my chest.

I noticed Lucas and Jason talking at the bottom of the staircase, but it was as if Jason sensed me. He paused mid-conversation, his gaze lifting to meet mine, his eyes gleaming with a warmth that made everything inside me flutter.

Jason’s gaze lingered on me for a moment, as though he were seeing me for the first time. The noise of the room seemed to fade, leaving just the two of us locked in that brief, electric moment. I felt my pulse quicken, the weight of his stare making everything feel sharper, more alive.

“Hey,” he said softly, stretching out his hand toward me. His fingers brushed against mine as he gently guided me down the stairs, the simple touch sending a ripple of warmth through my body.

I glanced up at him, catching the intensity in his eyes. There was something different about the way he looked at me tonight, something I couldn’t quite place, but I felt it deep in my chest.

“Careful,” Jason murmured, his voice low, as if sensing my nerves. He kept his hand on the small of my back as we descended, the weight of his touch grounding me in the moment. “We don’t want you to fall.”

I smiled, trying to steady my breath. “I think I’ll manage,” I replied, though my heart was racing, every step feeling like a mile.

When we reached the bottom, he stopped for a moment, turning to face me. His hand lingered on my back for a beat too long, and I could feel the tension between us, thick and palpable. His gaze softened, and for a split second, everything around us disappeared.

“Ready?” Jason asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

I nodded, the words catching in my throat.

He led me outside to a sleek, polished car waiting in the driveway, its headlights casting a soft glow against the deepening evening sky. With a quiet reverence, he opened the door for me, his movements deliberate, as though he was carefully curating this moment between us. Somehow, it felt as if this night held a significance neither of us had yet dared to fully acknowledge.

Settling into the passenger seat, I glanced over as he took his place beside me, his profile softened by the dim lights of the dashboard. The gentle hum of the engine filled the silence, and between us hung a delicate tension, unspoken yet unmistakable.

After a few moments, he finally broke the silence, his voice low, edged with a hint of vulnerability. “You have no idea how beautiful you look tonight.”

A warm blush crept up my cheeks, and I looked down, a soft smile tugging at my lips. “Thank you. This... it all feels a bit surreal.”

He turned his gaze on me, lingering, thoughtful. “Maybe it’s time things started feeling real.”

The words settled between us, heavy with promise, as the car moved steadily down the quiet, moonlit road.

When we arrived at the restaurant, it was breathtaking, a stunning space where soft ambient lights reflected off crystal chandeliers, casting a warm, welcoming glow across the room. Jason guided me inside, his hand resting lightly at the small of my back, a simple touch that grounded me, easing my nerves.

The evening unfolded like a dream. Every detail was meticulously chosen, from the elegantly arranged table to the delicate melody of a live band playing in the background. Conversation flowed with an easy warmth, and each laugh, each glance, seemed to draw us closer, as if time had slowed just for us. Jason’s gaze held an intensity, focused solely on me, as if nothing else in the world mattered tonight.

As dinner wound down, he reached across the table, his fingers brushing gently against mine. “I wanted tonight to be special,” he murmured, his eyes warm and filled with a sincerity that made my heart flutter. “You deserve this... and so much more.”

I looked down, a shy smile on my lips as I squeezed his hand gently. “It’s more than I could’ve imagined,” I whispered. “Thank you, Jason.”

On the drive back, laughter filled the car as we shared stories, uncovering little pieces of each other in the soft glow of the passing streetlights. Eventually, the car pulled up in front of the house, and Jason turned toward me, his expression shifting to something softer, almost vulnerable.

“Make me a promise,” he said, his voice a quiet plea. “No matter what happens, you won’t leave me.”

His words caught me off guard, sending a faint chill over the warmth of the evening. I searched his face, noticing the quiet urgency in his gaze, a flicker of uncertainty in his eyes that hadn’t been there before. The confidence he wore so naturally seemed to falter, revealing a depth I hadn’t fully seen until now.

Unsure of what to say, I leaned in, pressing my lips softly against his, hoping that this kiss would say what words couldn’t. It was tender, unhurried, filled with all the feelings I hadn’t yet found a way to express.

When we finally pulled back, his eyes held mine, as if he were searching for reassurance, for an answer that remained unspoken but that I hoped he’d felt. I brushed a hand gently against his cheek, offering him a small, reassuring smile. “Jason, I’m here. Right here. And I’m not going anywhere.”

A smile broke across his face, relief mingling with something deeper. He stepped out of the car swiftly, coming around to my side, and before I could even react, he scooped me up into his arms, lifting me as if I were the most precious thing in the world.

With a laugh, I wrapped my arms around his neck as he carried me inside. The sound of his laughter joined mine, echoing softly in the quiet house as we made our way toward his room.
