Chapter 52: Getting To Know Camilla Better
The next morning, Jean was no longer in the room where I slept. He had also cleaned up the mess we made last night so that no one would suspect anything.
I woke up, checked the time, and was grateful that I wasn't late. It would be a big problem if I woke up late at Jean's mother house; it would only make Jean's mother hate me more.
As I was about to go to the bathroom, I remembered something. The maid's words that helped me cook last night still haven't shed any light, even though I feel lighter now that I know Jean has no feelings for Camilla other than those of a sibling.
Looking back, the maids' comments that Camilla seemed disgusted by Jean mother don't seem to make sense. Jean treated Camilla like a sister; how could Camilla treat Jean's biological parents like that? Shouldn't she also respect Jean's mother, even when she's in the position of an orphan? Are these maids wrong, or does Camilla actually have a split personality?
I walked to the bathroom while thinking about all the possibilities regarding Camilla's behavior. Rather than falsely accuse someone, I'd rather investigate it myself.
Once I made my decision, I went downstairs to join Jean's mother, Jean, and Camilla for breakfast. The same members as last night, except this time Camilla and I didn't cook.
Everything went smoothly without a hitch until we finished breakfast, but then Jean's mother suddenly said, "I want to go for a walk to the market. All this time you've always forbidden mom, even though it was your mother's dream and my activity before accepting all this from you," Mother muttered, suddenly.
"Mother's condition is still not recovered. If my mother has a relapse on the road, you will hit people and consider them father's mistresses. Besides, the streets are too dangerous, and thugs are always arbitrary toward the elderly. And what makes me furious is that I can't reveal our relationship, so it will be difficult to protect you," said Jean, whose feelings and thoughts I could understand.
"Mother will bring Camilla and Miss Reinhardt. Camilla can look after Mother's health while we are away together, and Miss Reinhardt, with her incredible martial arts skills, will protect Mother from criminals." Suddenly, Mom wants me and Camilla to go with her; I don't know what the purpose of this trip is.
"I'm sorry, Mom, but I still have to go to work." And unexpectedly, Camilla refused.
"Even though Mom really wanted someone to go shopping with me." Jean's mother looked gloomy, making Jean feel guilty as a child.
"Are you really that eager to leave?" Jean asked, to which his mother immediately nodded.
"If so, please come with her for a while. Your work can be handled by your assistants." Jean's words were directed at Camilla, and her expression immediately changed as if she were reluctant to leave, but she looked forced and had no choice.
"Reinhardt is even busier than you, but she doesn't give any excuses." Jean looked at me, making me feel embarrassed because he was indirectly praising me.
"Alright, if Master Jean allows me not to work at the headquarters." And look, she used the word "master," but she called Jean by his real name. That already proves how close they were all this time.
"You don't mind, do you?" This time, Jean's question was directed at me.
"I don't mind at all; besides, I love shopping," I said enthusiastically, and for the first time, Mother's smile looked genuine to me; she was so happy.
After agreeing to go, the three of us went to a traditional market. Camilla and I were surprised that Mom chose the traditional market over other cleaner markets. However, my mother's face was radiant.
Mother walked side by side with Camilla while I was behind them. Camilla seemed uncomfortable with the market smells and the uneven, flooded streets because she was wearing expensive high heels. And it seems I was lucky because I was wearing a pair of boots, and I also often accompanied my father to monitor market security, so the smell of the market like this is already familiar to me.
From behind here, I saw Mother was so enthusiastic about many things, and she kept inviting Camilla to discuss them, even though Camilla seemed too distracted by the market conditions to focus. I could only observe the two of them, as if I were their security guard. However, from behind here I could see Camilla's demeanor, which was not as good as our first meeting last night.
Camilla, who seemed intelligent and talented, like an elegant noble child, now looks like a rich child who is arrogant and unable to adapt to where she is standing. The look in her eyes and her gestures indicated that she was disgusted and wanted to run away from here immediately. However, Mother held her hand tightly because the road was quite slippery.
Once again, I was just observing from behind, as if they had been going out alone from the beginning.
Mother's legs suddenly headed toward a young woman selling flowers. There were only a few flowers, as if the woman didn't even have much capital to sell. I thought Mother might take pity and buy some, but I was wrong.
Jean's mother grabbed the woman's hair, slapped her, and yelled at her, calling her a husband-stealing whore. Suddenly, all the market visitors and all the vendors focused their attention on us, especially on Mother.
Mom is sure to relapse again, and I didn't expect her illness to flare up even when she's in a good mood.
"Mom, she's just a salesman." I tried to break up Jean's mother.
"She's a whore who stole my husband. She's driving my husband crazy."
"You're the crazy one! Let me go!" The flower seller couldn't contain her emotions. I understand she was surprised by this situation, so she got angry.
"No, Mom, that happened a long time ago. Your husband is no longer alive." I tried to remind Jean's mother, but my words caused everyone to erupt in laughter and whisper to each other. In that situation, I tried to ask Camilla for help to calm Jean's mother with her medical expertise. However, I couldn't find Camilla anywhere. Where is Camilla? Did Camilla run away and leave us?
